Since announcing their relationship in August 2014, IFTTT and ADT have been working on creating a channel that connects an ADT Pulse-enabled home with more than 100 existing IFTTT channels that can adjust thermostats during a snowstorm or disarm the system when GPS data indicates you’re getting close to home. Additionally ADT has announced partnerships with Samsung on SmartThings/ Smart Watch integration and LG on a standalone security device. Soon with ADT Canopy, a monitoring service focused on these partnerships will allow users to add monitoring services to their smart devices.


From what customers are saying, once you actually get the ADT system in your home, everything will be fine. It’s ordering and installing that usually give people a bit of a headache. Our advice is to keep an open mind about what equipment you may need, keep track of your budget, and schedule a work-from-home day or day off (if possible) when installation day comes. So glad I read your review because I have been going back and forth what cameras should I get. Really didn’t want an adt camera because my contract start all over again locked in for 36 months again and what if I didn’t like the cameras then I just stuck with it or pay a very high break contract fee. I think I will try some stand alone security cameras for now.
My bill was paid in full till the end of Sept. 2018. I called and canceled service on Sept 20, 2018 after sale of the house. Received a bill in Oct 2018 for $18.49. No detail on the bill only explanation after speaking to Scott is a charge incurred that happens because it takes a month to complete the cancellation process and that is wrote in the contract but I did not remember that being mentioned at the time service was started more than 3 yrs earlier. I was never late with a payment and there was never an alarm. So basically a person would be very wise to set up a DIY service and save a lot of money and getting taken advantage of.

Many times agreed to vist me, let’s say Wednesday morning so I decided to stay and wait just to receive a call that afternoon to reschedule. Can you believe it? Not even explaining/apologizing first. Sensors falling and activating the alarm causing the cops to come to finally find out that the sensor simply fall from the double face tape it was holding it. Yes, double face tape. Also, if you move in the middle of the 3 years contract, you are not allowed to continue the agreement at the new address. You need to start 3 years again or pay the whole remaining months. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND ADT.
Probably my worst experience with any service provider in US. We put the system before relocating to England for a year. Three faulty alarms resulted in huge fees from police and ADT refused to fix it. Now we are moving for good abroad and they want to charge us $300 to cancel the service. My advice – never work with them. Once we are back this is the last company I will be contacting.
Frontpoint requires a professional monitoring subscription plus a three-year contract. Monitoring plans range from $35 to $45 to $50 per month, each ascending tier unlocking additional features like home automation, mobile alerts, and camera storage. While not as flexible if you want to take a minimalist or independent approach to security, but appealing if you want the extra perks.

Adt has the worse customer service in the world!!!! Horrible horrible experience with them DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOUR MONEY WHEN ITS TIME TO REFUND IT YOU WILL NEVER GET IT BACK THEY JUST KEEP ON TRANSFERRING YOU TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND PUT YOU ON HOLD AND EVERYTIME YOU’RE ON HOLD ANOTHER PERSON PICKS UP AND YOU HAVE TO EXPLAIN YOURSELF OVER AND OVER AGAIN I AM A CUSTOMER BUT I REGRET IT BECAUSE THEY DON’T TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE ON A 2-3 year contarct with them . The system itself it good but the CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST OF THE WORST!!!!!!!!
We had ADT come to give us a quote on their equipment for home security. We already have a different system installed in our home. The salesman told us he had to connect ADT's keypad to see if we had enough juice to operate their system. He proceeded to take our existing keypad off the way and put his on. When all was done we decided not to go with the ADT system because it was too expensive for us.

I bought $2k+ of equipment after being told that the equipment was transferable to a new residence since I was installing it in a rental residence I did not own. It was explicitly explained that I was renting and would be moving within 3 years and was promised I could take all equipment with me to be installed in another home. When I moved I was informed that the equipment cannot be transferred but that a $500 moving credit is given, however the new home I was moving into had “a better system” and the $500 credit would cover the little bit of equipment I was missing to give me an “even better system” than I had in the previous home. New contract was signed based on this. No new equipment was installed – turns out the only existing equipment was a couple of door sensors and hard wired alarm pads, which were not used. There are no sensors on windows or 3 of the 5 doors. My last home had over ten window sensors and 5 door sensors as well as 2 alarm pads at entry doors. Now I have two doors protected and one alarm pad that can only be used in a room that is not a primary entry point and would require me to run across the house to disarm every time I enter my home. It is a 3 year contract that has to be paid in full so I am now paying for services for 3 years that cannot be used and were sold under completely false pretenses. The company refuses to deliver what was promised and continues to try to get me to buy more equipment to get what i already paid for. What’s more is that I had a 3 year contract in the previous home that they reassigned to another 3 year contract after having already fulfilled 2 years of the first contract – this is not what was explained to me, I was told the new contract was for the 1 year difference. I either have to cough up $800+ to cancel the contract or continue to pay for monitoring on equipment not installed.
When we purchased ADT Security Company we thought it was kind of expensive, but we were willing to pay the price because when we would drive around in nice neighborhoods we would see their signs in so many peoples yards that we assumed that they must have been a good choice. Boy, were we wrong! We did not have get the service that we expected. Our alarm kept going off at all times of the night and day. Our neighbors started started complaining. The police even came out numerous times, and they started getting frustrated with us. I was even afraid that we might be sued fro disturbing the peace. Then when we would call the company, or they would call us they were many times very rude, or irritated. Needless to say, they weren’t worth the price, so we cancelled their services, and have been shopping around for someone better. Maybe each town’s ADT company is different, but now I warn all my neighbors, and friends to go with someone else!

Then there’s the monitoring service – they offer $27.99/mo but that’s only if you have a land phone line in your home. Including the warranty on the equipment that is supposed to be $36.99, but again they claim it’s only if you have a land line. I know others who have the service without a land line paying $36.99 no problem, yet ADT claims they don’t do that. Total garbage and lies. So now the monthly monitoring fee is up to $48.99 for wireless. However if you speak with their customer service, they will bring that down to $44.99/month and offer $300 in gift cards to make up the difference between the $48.99 and the $36.99 as promised. It’s all such a set up.

The new system has twice the range of the original and is “five times faster” in communicating with other equipment. SimpliSafe also reinforced the system’s back-up cellular connection so that it’s even more secure. Though we haven’t tested the new SimpliSafe equipment just yet, the advancements are promising and innovate on a system that was solid to begin with.
ADT doesn’t have the strongest customer service reputation among the companies we considered, racking up more than 3,000 complaints on its Better Business Bureau page. You will lock into a 36-month agreement, but given the eight to eleven year average lifespan of a security system, this timeframe is relatively short compared to other providers’, which can be as long as a 5-year agreement.

While my daughter was visiting she took too long to disarm the system one early morning since she was sleeping. The alarm was in the “instant” mode so when I opened the door it went off and I attempted to silence the alarm with my FOB while my daughter put in the code. ADT took approx 10 minutes to call my house! In this time if it were a real emergency me or my daughter could have been robbed or killed if a true intruder was in the house! This is unacceptable!

Agreed, thanks for the research on this company. You guys pointed out several things I didn't know or hadn't thought of. The only reason I was maybe not going to get ADT was because it seems 'generic' but they seem to have the best equipment and their contract states they won't raise your monthly price so all around worth it. After calling a few other companies as well I feel much more comfortable with ADT's reliability.
