Back doors are another common target. After all, the less attention an intruder draws, the better. Having a camera film any back entrances (or side doors and windows if you lack a back door) will help to verify whether someone has broken in. As for placement, somewhere up high where wires can’t be clipped — or by the doorbell, where burglars won’t want to do anything suspicious — is our experts’ advice.
Also, don't expect ADT to listen to your complaint.  You won't get past helpdesk support. They suggest you write a letter if you want to speak to anyone higher that helpdesk.  A LETTER!, what century does this company live in. They must all drive to work using a Horse and Buggy. I knew at that point this wasn't the type of company that could provide me with the type of advanced security system you would expect in the 21st century.

My father’s house is wired with ADT security and one time a thief broke into his house while he was away. ADT sent a alarm message to him and he confirmed that a trespasser must have been in his home. The police were called but the thief left before they could catch them. Regardless it scared the thief away and he ended up not stealing any valuable electronics or keepsakes. ADT has always had friendly customer service and the installation was quick and easy. My dad has been very satisfied and because of his good experience I plan on installing ADT in my new home. Although it costs money to install I believe the money is well worth the investment to protect your valuables and make your home safer. I would recommend ADT for any home. You never think theft will happen to you but when it does you want some security system in your home; trust me.
The technician explained that ADT’s broadband systems have trouble connecting to Suddenlink routers, which our tester had, so he tried a different kind of command hub. After he left, our tester noticed he was charged $190 more than his original quote. The new equipment was significantly more expensive because it worked on cellular signals instead of Wi-Fi. We wish we had known about that extra charge upfront.
I canceled my account with ADT back in June, and it is now November and they are still sending me voicemails, invoices, and threatening to send me to the debt collection agency!! Every two weeks, I call ADT so that THEY can FINALLY cancel my account, and EVERY SINGLE time they apologize and assure me that the account has been closed and that I will no longer receive emails, invoices, and threats. BUT not even 48 hours later, I will still be receiving calls, voicemails, emails, and threats.
They show up the next day, and I ask a perfectly valid question about after my contract ends, and I stop being monitored by ADT, can I add additional sensors?  The answer? Sure! At $150 a piece plus the install cost for what was monitored equipment, but no longer will be.  I argued with them for a minute and they got defensive and condescending.  Fifth problem I dropped it, but they continued to beat a dead horse.  Finally, I asked them to leave and take their equipment with them.  They looked at me like I was crazy.  Maybe so, but I had had enough of them taking 6-7 hours to install a few plastic pieces around my house and answering personal phone calls and trying to get my dog to like them.  The last two are sort of petty, I know, but they were the icing on the cake for me.

Chances are if you’re thinking of a friend or neighbor’s home security system, they probably have an ADT sign out front. ADT has been considered the industry standard for home security, and although some of their stuff might not be as flashy, the equipment is solid and the monitoring aspect receives good reviews with customers (although sales and installation customer service could use some love). Plus, you can always expand your system with home automation options.
After the first year of service, ADT can increase the monitoring fee anytime and as frequently– as it wants. However, if you provide written notice of your objection to the price increase within 30 days or receipt of notice, ADT may either reconsider the adjustment or allow you to terminate the contract without paying cancellation fees. Changes in monitoring rates do happen, but they are not common and infrequent.

All of the systems we've tested feature an app that lets you use your smartphone as your command center to arm and disarm the system, create rules, add and delete components, and receive push notifications when alarms are triggered. Most apps also allow you to do things like view live and recorded video, lock and unlock doors, change thermostat settings, and silence alarms. Some apps will even use your phone's location services to automatically arm and disarm the system according to your physical location. The more expensive systems usually come with a wall-mounted panel that acts as a communications hub, with a touch-screen display that allows you to do everything the app does. The display lets you communicate with a professional monitoring service when an alarm is triggered and view video from any of the installed security cameras.
I do not understand how ADT has such a high rating on this website when a simple Google search shows terrible ratings across the board. This is why I chose to write my review on this website. An ADT rep came to my house when I purchased it, and promised me personal service, and we talked about all the places that would be wired, and old equipment that would be replaced. We also agreed that the price would be comparable to what I was paying in my old home. Fast forward, I move from my old home, ADT makes me close out the old contract, start a new contract at a higher price. The tech shows up, the sales rep is nowhere to be found and doesn’t answer his phone, THEY DON’T WIRE ANYTHING ON THE SECOND FLOOR STATING IT WILL COST EXTRA FOR EVERY ADDITIONAL WINDOW. Within 48 hours of them leaving, an alarm they installed on one of the exterior doors malfunctions and they don’t fix it for 5 more days. All this for the BASIC coverage at $44/month. I can’t say anything about any of the other services, but the second my contract is done I will be moving to another provider as ADT is a terrible crooked company.
I am very upset with my ADT experience and contract. Your sales rep Daehan ** gave me inadequate information regarding your ADT service and contract. I was very upfront and concerned about switching from SafeNet to ADT because I was planning on moving the following year. He ASSURED me that the move of equipment, install and monitoring fees would not incur additional charges! He also did NOT disclose that there was a 36 month contract or an early termination fee. If I was properly informed of incurring additional charges for my move, I would NOT have switched security companies as my contract with SafeNet was complete. In order for me to set up a new security monitoring system at my new place of residence, I received an estimate for $461.

ADT Pulse monitoring offers all the features of basic security and adds home automation into the mix, giving you power to personalize your system to your needs, whatever they might be. For anyone looking for more than just alarms and monitoring, this is the way to go. That way, you can add things like a video doorbell (Ring) or speech control with Amazon Alexa and Echo.

Thanks to my ADT alarm system, my autistic son is thriving today… Being the parent of an autistic child is very challenging, specifically when his sleeping pattern is so off that we (the parents) are completely exhausted. I had my ADT system for a while and actually was planning on opting out of it. Because I had more “important things” to take care of. One day while at work, the person I left in charge of my child fell asleep, my 3 year old wanderer was actually about to open the door, and the alarm send me an alert as well as another to the police. I’d called home to make the sitter awarded of the situation. That alarm didn’t stop an stranger from entering, but stop my son from being harmed or taken… Thanks ADT….
SimpliSafe’s new equipment also pairs with select smart home devices like the Nest Thermostat and August Locks. Additionally, it syncs with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which means you can now control your SimpliSafe system via voice commands. Just as with the redesigned equipment, this home automation update puts it in league with competitors — particularly those with DIY installation. While it’s still not as robust as offerings from company’s like Vivint, this is a huge step forward.
Use to have the system at my other house. A few times I forgot the code or put it in wrong and I received a phone call. If you give them a secret code then they will call off the police for you. May be they should have 2 secret codes one for when you are in danger (like maybe if there is a person standing beside you with a gun forcing you give the correct code) and one for when you are not in danger.
ADT has one advantage over every other home surveillance camera system in our review: It offers unlimited cloud video storage as part of its security camera services, whereas the industry average is less than 1GB. You can keep as much security footage as you like, for as long as you like. ADT offers four security camera options that we confirmed based on documentation in the support section of the company's website. These cameras come in indoor and outdoor options.
I have been with ADT for 4 years now. In the beginning I had some minor issues but things got better fast. I love being able to see what is going on from my phone, we have Z Wave setup so as I drive into the zone area with my phone it triggers the alarm to turn off. I setup my light automation and everything with them all for the same cost of Vivint's base package. Even though it was a slower start, I am one satisfied customer.
Bernadette, wow! We are so relieved to hear no was hurt, and on Christmas morning! That is exactly what ADT is here for. Our first priority will always be your safety. We could not be happier to hear this amazing story from you, Bernadette. You are very welcome. Our team of highly trained representatives will always be a speedy phone call away 24/7 if any disturbances takes place in your home. Thank you so much for sharing this story with us. Take care, Bernadette! Have a safe and great day! -Katie
My bill was paid in full till the end of Sept. 2018. I called and canceled service on Sept 20, 2018 after sale of the house. Received a bill in Oct 2018 for $18.49. No detail on the bill only explanation after speaking to Scott is a charge incurred that happens because it takes a month to complete the cancellation process and that is wrote in the contract but I did not remember that being mentioned at the time service was started more than 3 yrs earlier. I was never late with a payment and there was never an alarm. So basically a person would be very wise to set up a DIY service and save a lot of money and getting taken advantage of.
The systems monitored by ADT use hardwired and wireless equipment to detect home invasions and guard against environmental damage. The system can also be installed to communicate wirelessly or by landline with the monitoring centers. Plans offered by ADT range from $37 to $53 per month. ADT requires customers to sign a 36-month contract (24 months in California). However, if the customer is not satisfied and meets the requirements, they can get a refund of all installation costs and monitoring fees up to 6 months after signing the agreement.

The camera's auto-record function is based on motion sensors tuned to ignore small animals. The cam will record a 30-second video clip, then pause for four minutes before it records again. Auto-recorded clips are stored in ADT's Pulse cloud and can be accessed via the Pulse app. The camera operates at 720p resolution and you can record either a manual video or a still snapshot using the Pulse mobile app. All video clips, your own or the ones the camera takes automatically, are stored in ADT's cloud for 30 days. If you want to download anything to save long-term, it's doable, but only using the ADT web portal, not the mobile app. All this functionality comes with your Pulse service contract, none of it costs extra. You can check out the night vision image quality in the screenshot below.
Frontpoint captures the best of both DIY and do-it-for-me worlds, with self-installation and sophisticated equipment line-up coupled with professional monitoring. We built our package uber-cheap — a control panel, glass break sensor, and four access sensors costs as little as $100 upfront. Then we installed and arranged the system, and let professional monitoring services take care of the rest.
Worst service ever. Was told that I would be quoted one thing when I ended up having to spend much more. Have been trying to get reimbursed for over a month now. Also spoke with someone on the phone and I expressed my frustrations and they literally laughed at me. I will never go with this company again. After my contract is up we will be done.Read More

November 6th 2018, I had the worst experience with a customer service manager who works for account management in Jacksonville, Florida. She was so nasty with me and spoke to me with so much attitude and no respect. She was not polite, nor did she mention her name when asked. I had to get her name from another representative the next day. I also asked her to read her notes so that she can familiarize herself with my situations and how many times I have been in contact with her department and she refused to do so. Porsha F abruptly hung up on me out of frustration and also sent me a bill for over 1000$ out of frustration and threatened to send me to the debt collection agency.
ADT is not an honest company. Worse company ever. Very bad customer service , useless and they toss you around from one vendor to the other!End result nothing we can do , just pay your bill and shut the hell up.I would never recommend this company to anyone and I will make sure my comments are showing on every social media .Bottom line, they don’t tell you that you are locked in a 3 year contract ,and if you relocate , they will renew your contract for a new 3 years term! What a rip -off.
The ADT Pulse system was just what I was looking for. The control and app is very fluid (meaning smooth). Camera quality is much higher than any security cameras (such as Swann or Nest) that my friends have, and then you can have one company across all your home automation platforms. Best to do it this way then having to login separate apps for your home security & cameras. Installation was quick and the tech explained everything, better than a DIY option which is becoming the trend.
We had our home broken into some years ago, but today, I once again feel robbed, preyed upon and vulnerable.. This time, it is the service we choose for peace of mind that have taken from us: ADT.Don’t sign with ADT!!You will read similar warnings on blogs, comments, feeds and other online reviews – if you haven’t already signed a contract – then you’re luckier than most, keep your money and find another way of keeping you and your possessions safe! It’s no surprise they score 1.9/10 on ‘Best Home Security Companies’ by 648 reviewers..Here is why:No Free Installation With Traditional Plan36-Month Contract Required Outrageous cancellation termsExcessively long call times Pushy sales tactics Regularly increases monthly fee for no reasonRequires written, signed-for letters to acknowledge any customer requests/complaints Many Negative User ReviewsPlethora of BBB ComplaintsIf you read this and ADT manage to convince you, when you do eventually become disaffected, write your own post and share with others. It is only by sharing the information and by buying services that are ethical, fair and transparent that we can shape the industry for the better and rid the market of companies like ADT.We deserve better.

ADT was Past security brand that we had! We loved it! They provides great service! The sign in the yard let thieves know not to bother us! They were fast and aware of what was happening around our house! We no longer have this because we moved to a little town that does not have a high crime rate! We hardly lock our doors now! ADT was great to have and always made us feel very safe if an emergency happened! I would recommend them to everyone! Thank you!

Over 2 million burglaries occur in the United States alone every year (according to the Disaster Center at www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm). ADT-monitored security aims to help prevent as well as provide instant protection against burglaries. With a vast array of home security systems, from signs and stickers to in-home infrared motion sensors, you can trust your home is being protected from the inside out. ADT protects my home and family. Crime is always on the rise here in Pine Bluff. You can’t seem to leave home without prying eyes watching our every move. We are protected 24/7. Wireless home security options keep your system connected via a cellular network with CellGuard. I love this option of being able to check on our home via cell phone. We feel more at ease when we leave home now. We have protection against burglary, fire, flood, carbon monoxide and video surveillance. Optional two-way voice intercom system lets you instantly talk to ADT whenever an alarm goes off with SecurityLink. You can call and get a free security quote, too. Prices are reasonable, and family safety is important. Record up to 30 seconds of a triggered event. Saves up to 30 days of continuous activity with a DVR. I feel this system is perfect for me and my family. Check out the website to see for yourself all that ADT has to offer. Thank you, ADT.

As the largest and most well-known brand in home security, ADT has a lot to offer homeowners looking for a professionally installed security solution from a company that has been part of the industry since the beginning. They continue to innovate and improve, taking advantage of technological advances and evolving their product offering to meet the needs of modern homeowners. ADT has recently made significant strides in the connected home space as the home automation market continues to expand. ADT’s Canopy® is a new professional monitoring service designed to support their partnerships and integrations with smart home devices and ecosystems such as Samsung’s SmartThings (as well as their smart watch, the S2), Nest and LG. ADT Pulse Home security also continues to evolve with the addition of voice command capabilities and the company’s partnership with IFTTT allows ADT Pulse users even more ways to interact and control their home environment and security system.

ADT uses the latest in technology to protect your home. The company has invested in upgrading to the latest wireless technology to help protect your home and keep the installation process as streamlined as possible. Like the newest systems, ADT wireless security system relies on radio waves to connect your home’s cameras and sensors to the control panel.

Check to see how long you’re signing the contract for – these tend to be three- or five-year periods. Also take some time to understand whether there are any penalties if you want to leave the contract sooner and if the fees can rise during the contract time frame. Be sure to check what equipment you’re allowed to keep once the contract has expired.

ADT is one of the most well-known providers in the home security industry and it’s clear why. The company’s 24/7 professional monitoring and six dedicated command centers also help it stand out among competitors who sometimes outsource monitoring to third parties. Plus, its home automation features are a great add-on for those who want a little more control over their homes. With more than a century of expertise and millions of customers, ADT has built a reputation as an authority on home protection.
Ask yourself how much did you pay for your TV, Cell phone whatever. ADT and ADT dealers are a business and business make money! Just like lowes, walmart, bestbuy, target and every other business. It’s not a charity. They offer 24 hour protection free replacement, but yes they do charge you a service fee of 25 dollars if your system need to be fixed and it was not do to them. but that covers everything! Even if they had to replace the whole system.
Whether you decide to go with a DIY system or opt for a professionally installed system, you'll have to pay a monthly or annual fee if you require monitoring, and in some cases, you'll be hit with a monthly fee to pay off the cost of hardware components. With most DIY systems, such as the SimpliSafe Home Security Kit, the Ring Alarm Security Kit, and the Nest Secure, you purchase the hardware outright and can avoid any monthly fees if you decide to self-monitor. If you add monitoring, fees will vary: SimpliSafe charges $14.99 per month for its no-contract monitoring service, while Nest charges $29 per month. If you commit to a three-year contract, the price of the Nest service drops to $19 per month. Ring's Protect Plus plan goes for $10 per month and doesn't require a contract.
This is what I was wondering myself Andy. Thanks for sharing. I run a small apartment complex and wanted to get a reliable protection service and it looks like ADT is the only one that offers the ability to allow me to make separate logins and new pass codes. The apartments I run are 3 month leases so they are for people in between housing or moving, ect.
ADT may have steep early cancellation fees and long contracts, but it also offers some of the best customer guarantees.* The Theft Protection Guarantee protects you if your home is burglarized while your system is armed—ADT will pay up to $500 of your insurance deductible in that case. The company also offers a six-month money-back guarantee and a mover’s guarantee that keeps you from incurring extra equipment costs if you move after being an ADT customer for at least two years. *Certain terms and restrictions may apply. These guarantees may change at any time, so make sure you check with a representative for more details.
Don’t expect to get a firm cost for service and equipment from a web chat. Without seeing your property, a sales agent can only estimate. Your home will specifically need to be evaluated by an ADT installer—which is free. Some may view it as an upselling scheme to get you to buy more stuff you don’t need, but we’re actually grateful that they provide someone who can point out weak spots in our home we might not have thought of. Plus, you can always say no to additional sensors you don’t want then.

We had Adt and then after awhile shut it off. We recently made the decision to turn our services back on and they were amazing! The Adt crew came out to the house and updated our entire system, upgrading our keypad and walking each family member through their own pass code. They made sure we knew how to use their services to the best of our ability. We even got a remote!
I have been an ADT client for a long time. At the point when my mom turned out to be sick and expected to remain home more often, I began to look into upgrading my system for one with video and ability for her to see who was at our door. After many research I found that plan require me to either include their TV products or services. Change I was not interested in making. So I upgrade with ADT, and our needs were met. My mother can choose whether or not she needs to her energy to answer the door.
Do-it-yourself security setups are ideal for homeowners on a budget because they can save you a bundle on installation charges and subscription fees. Most DIY systems are easy to install and are sold as kits that you can configure to suit your specific needs. As your needs grow you can order additional sensors and other components at your convenience and pair them to the system in a matter of minutes. Your basic entry-level DIY system may only support one or two wireless protocols and usually offers a limited selection of add-on components, while more expensive DIY systems will support multiple wireless protocols and are compatible with dozens of add-on components.
Thanks to advances in wireless connectivity and camera sensors, interior security cameras are more and more affordable for those with a small budget. Better still, many budget cameras have a small form factor to keep them out of the way from prying, unwanted eyes that may enter into your home. The EZVIZ Mini O combines a quality 720p with two-way talk feature all for a very low price.
Are the burglers smart enough to cut the TV cable? I use VOIP, which ADT can connect to, because I had them do that at a home I had in California. Having them use the cell chip is the smarter way. I thought because I had bad cell phone service my burglar alarm system would too but the technician taught me that they use a variety of cell tower signal strength (compared to just 1 that my phone uses) and there is never any outage. Cell monitoring is the way to go and most companies don't even offer land line service although ADT still will if you ask them too.
Wireless security cameras: These security cameras are perfect for both outdoor and indoor use. They possess great night vision with infrared and is Wi-Fi enabled. They make use of WPA2 Wi-Fi encryption hence providing for secure transmission of your video feeds. They record videos to the cloud which is remotely accessible from any internet available areas. Dome shaped security cameras.
The outside camera is hit or miss and has been since the system was installed. Overall, I'd say it works about 75 percent of the time. ADT has been out twice to fix it with neither visit making any difference. While it has a nice wow factor, the camera isn't really a lynchpin of the system, so I'm not overly concerned with it. Still, it is a primary component and you're paying for it, so overall it could use improvement.
The SimpliSafe system requires a professional monitoring subscription to receive alerts. That’s because it relies on a cellular connection rather than internet, so someone needs to send you an SMS text. There’s no option to receive automatic in-app alerts. You’ll have to upgrade to the $25-per-month plan to save yourself the task of keeping a constant eye on the video feed. (That’s still $10 less than Frontpoint’s cheapest plan, though.)
