The reason I got ADT was so that in case I needed to move out of state for my work (a possibility at the moment) I wouldn't have to pay a early termination fee for moving 'out of service area' as I've seen with other companies contracts. I believe I'll have to pay a $199 or so moving fee but that's better then cancelling and signing up with a new company once moved.
There are several types of motion sensors out there, the most common being PIR (passive infrared) sensors that detect body heat. These sensors are ideal for home security use as they are cost effective and work well indoors in any lighting environment. Active motion sensors emit microwaves to detect movement and are better suited to harsh environments, including outdoor use, but are prone to false alerts due to wind-blown debris. A dual motion sensor combines both active and passive technology to reduce false alerts and provide an extra measure of reliability.
I paid premiums to ADT for seven years. When my system started beeping, it took me two sleepless nights, three days, and five phone calls to get help , I discovered I could not have used the system anyway because I did not remember my password. ADT has no security questions that they ask to verify who you are. What a waste of money! When I decided to end my service with them, I was told it would take a written letter and thirty days to stop the service-time to collect another premium. I do not recommend this company. I give them zero stars, but the review would not submit unless I gave them some stars.
GetSafe’s no-contract option offers all of the security with none of the commitment at the same monitoring price as its contract plans. Going with its month-to-month option instead of its one- or three-year contracts doesn’t mean skimping on service, either. In February 2017, I had three cameras installed, in which one camera simply sat on my kitchen sink because the technician didn’t want to hassle with figuring out an electrical connection to set the camera up to view my swimming pool area. The front outside camera was supposed to have night vision, but it didn’t. The night vision function finally popped in surprisingly during the summer of 2018. The camera system is down almost as much as it works.

The consultant will typically look to sell you ADT’s standard security package or schedule an appointment for an in-home assessment of your security needs. During our secret shopper call, we did not provide a street address (information we didn’t have to provide other companies so immediately) and the receptionist promptly ended our call.

We just moved into our first house 5 months ago in a neighborhood we didn’t know well, and getting a security system was very important to us. We considered several, and ADT just seemed to have the most bang for our buck. Our system hasn’t disappointed us one bit. Usually when I walk out of the door, my hands are full while I’m juggling a toddler. The app helps so much so that I can activate our system from my phone once I’m in the car.
We previously had ADT and having this service provided us with a great peace of mind. We moved into a rental property approximately three years and now have no home security provider. We plan on purchasing this home and I can tell you the first thing we are going to purchase is ADT again. The only reason I gave this review a 4 star instead of 5, is because of the delay in response time when we do not respond. The Home Security Provider first calls us to confirm then calls police. By the time the police receive the alarm there is several minutes in delay. If help were needed right away, I believe it could be a little bit of a downfall – however, overall I know that my home is protected and even with a few minute delay – know that help would be on the way.
As mentioned, SimpliSafe updated its equipmentto enhance its already reliable features and to offer a streamlined design on par with security companies like GetSafe and Frontpoint. The new system has twice the range of the original and is “five times faster” in communicating with other equipment. SimpliSafe also reinforced the system’s back-up cellular connection so that it’s even more secure. Though we haven’t tested the new SimpliSafe equipment just yet, the advancements are promising and innovate on a system that was solid to begin with.
very happy with our system. has never failed, feel very secure when we turn it on at night. would recommend the system to anyone. i dropped a plate in the kitchen and the system came on asking if everything was alright, it sounded like glass breaking when the plate hit the floor. only problem we have is forgetting to turn it off in the morning but that is our fault.

ADT offers a lot beyond basic home security (like medical alert monitoring), but the company charges extra for safety essentials like smoke and carbon monoxide monitoring, which other security companies include. You also have to upgrade for an extended warranty if you select either of the Basic packages. We’d like to see ADT cut their customers a break and create some affordable package options that include smoke and CO2 alerts along with a good, solid warranty for all plans.
Also, ADT does have medical backup features like pendants and other helpful tools for those who may not be able to get to the phone in case of an accident or injury. The medical alert integrates into the system, so you won’t have to find another company to coordinate with. ADT’s Medical alert pendants have GPS that works anywhere it can reach of a cell network.
In 2017, ADT settled five class action lawsuits that claimed wireless sensors used between November 13, 2009 and August 15, 2016 were vulnerable to hacking. Claimants asserted that hackers could access a security system and disable it through certain wireless sensors used in ADT residential security systems. The suits were centered on ADT’s failure to disclose this potential liability. ADT has denied any liability and maintains that the claims have no merit. Rather than continuing litigation, the company agreed to settle and establish a million settlement fund in order to avoid the ongoing expense and uncertainty. February 26, 2018 was the deadline to file a claim in the settlement.

One day, I burned some food on the stove and set the fire alarm off.  The phone rang immediately.  I mean, I didn’t need any help or anything, but the speed of their response was impressive.  The one time I did need this alarm was when I got robbed.  Some kids apparently walked out of my house with my most valued posession in broad daylight on a weekday.  Unfortunately, like I said, I hadn’t been setting the panel anymore.  So I had to make an insurance claim.  I’ve had no problems with the product or the monitoring service.  The only thing I would warn people about is in making the habit of using it.  I’m now considering adding video cameras, which has brought me here so I wanted to leave my 2 cents behind.  Thanks.

I just got rid of m ADT system. It was installed onOctober 1st and in the four months I had it, I had at least 14 service calls to fix broken or non-functioning equipment and more calls from them telling me that a window was open when it was not. The window in question has not been opened over 25 years. And every time they would call about my “open window”, it would make the alarm impossible to set because it required over-riding that window. I got a call from an ADT representative telling me they were receiving an alarm from my system.
