As stated, ADT supports a wide variety of other devices, including not just lights but also appliances and garage door openers. I didn't install anything on my garage door as it's essentially a large storage unit right now so I simply want to keep it locked. It's important to note that if I had wanted ADT to automate it, the company wouldn't have installed a new garage door opener, but just a Z-Wave controller that would allow me to remotely operate the opener using Pulse. This is a similar procedure for how ADT will automate your home's other appliances, should you opt for it. What's nice is that aside from remote operation, you can schedule events with most automated devices and appliances, so your home can literally perform basic tasks, like turning the heat up and down for your departure and return after a trip, letting the cleaning crew in Tuesdays at noon if you're away, and turning the front porch light on just before you get home from work every night.

I use ADT in all of my tenants homes and they like it. I have a influx of new tenants constantly so each time that happens I change the alarm code and make them a new user login on the ADT pulse app. I realize most people won't need to do all of this extra work when it is just them using it. If it can hold up in rentals it is definitely a worth-while security system!
After being a customer for the past eight years, I tried to upgrade. My monthly price had exceeded $60 a month with old features. I scheduled to installs with the sales department. After hanging up the local office calls to confirm appointment they told the tech will collect the total payment. I said this was not agreed upon. Each time I had to call Customer service to try and straighten it out. Its been a total nightmare.

I have tried to resolve my issues through customer service. No luck. I was quoted that my monthly bill would be 29.99 per month. It turns out that because I received cameras and access to ADT PULSE my monthly bill is $70 per month. HUGE difference and ADT was unwilling to do anything about it except to come and uninstall my equipment. I should have been told this information from the beginning. I was also told that if I paid the $105 installation fee that I would receive a $100 gift card in the mail. After a few months I called in to see why I haven't received it.

Hey Jen, the thing I have liked most about ADT is you get the most respect out of the yard sign for it. Sounds like you are in the ghetto (or bad part of town) like me and just having the sign alone gives my home the respect it needs on the block. I like the service too but the sign is the best part, also nice if you work graveyards or weird shifts like lots of us in the hood do.

I have always wanted to keep my family and home safe, especially at night. I do not have a guard dog like some of my friends do and I do not find dogs effective. So I decided to do some research and found ADT to be the best choice. They came and thoroughly installed the sensors all throughout my house. They made sure to test the system to see if it was working properly. After that I am pleased with my security system. It is easy to use and we have never had a problem with it. Also, the staff are very friendly. If we have questions they always help us out. We have been safe in our home ever since (no more burglaries).
Several days later a beep began to sound again – similar to the one previous. A call to ADT’s service centre assured us that it was not the panel or anything to do with the system. It was suggested that the beep may be coming from a smoke or carbon monoxide detector. Those devices ‘pip’ not ‘beep’. In any case, we replaced them because they were due. Still, we heard the beep. We even went as far as replacing the batteries in every device in the home that required them. Still, we heard the beep. The beep appeared to come from the panel area but without the low battery warning on the panel we continued our search/detection just in case we were mistaken and ADT was correct.

Monitoring was fine, a few issues with some of the equipment and conflicting answers about how to fix it. But my biggest issue is cancelling services. It is a NIGHTMARE. I’ve called repeatedly, used their chat feature, faxed and emailed trying to cancel service. Yet somehow, they keep losing my request to cancel. They tell you it’s easy to cancel if you’re under military orders to move – just provide a copy of the orders they say. But the reality is that they’ll drag their feet and make you jump through hoops for weeks. Meanwhile, my house is selling, I can’t cancel service and I’m stuck paying for an alarm system on a house I will no longer own.

First off, they will charge you an up front $99 to install, plus charge tax on that, even before you get a technician to conduct the review to set up the system. Then, the promise of equipment – they promise “pre-wired” door and window sensors, however this only actually applies if you have an existing security system and all sensors are wireless anyway, so really they offer 7 wireless sensors ($129 per additional sensor). They will bait you on by saying “a manager is on and will work with you to approve this” – don’t believe it, as you’ll never hear from that manager ever again, even when you have his/her manager id number.

Wow,  I am blown away here. Did anyone read the ad you got in the mail, on the internet? Did you listen to the recording when you called in? It say’s free setup of 2 door sensors, 1 motion sensor and 1 keyless remote. NO WHERE does it say they cover all of your windows extra doors ect at no extra charge. These are all upgrades you can add to your account just like a smart phone VS a little flip phone or a neon VS a viper. You pay for what you get. You are getting 99 dollars worth. They have to pay for the parts, pay the installer pay for the advertising ( That flyer you called in on is not free)

The worst service! Good insight. A criminal would have to be one very well researched guy to know that tip about ADT cameras. My guess is the burglar would move on to the next home if they saw cameras but still good information to know. You're right, there aren't too many cameras that go hand in hand with a security system yet. Getting Swann or other DVR systems that record 24/7 is a good idea. Also Vivint has good integration with their cameras (probably the best out of all security companies currently).
Some DIY systems are self-monitored, which means you'll receive alerts when devices are triggered, but it's up to you to contact the local authorities if there's a break-in or a fire. However, DIY vendors are increasingly offering professional monitoring services; some require a contract and some allow you to pay as you go so you're only being monitored when you need it, such as when you're away on vacation.
ADT is a trusted name, which is what keeps them at the top of the security game. However, there are a lot of new players that are giving ADT a run for their money. If you want home security that comes with years of experience and expertise—this company has had more than 140 years to hone its home security know-how—ADT is a solid choice. There is a reason why this company has a 1 star rating...avoid them like the plague. They are a high pressure sales company who abuse the elders.  My mother sign a contract with them in 2011.  ADT wants the elder to believe they still have a "verbal" contract and they keep billing them despite the system not working for two years.  They wanted to charge her another $400 to "repair" their system and they also unilaterally increased the price of the service.  When we tried to cancel, they apply high pressure tactics to try to retain claiming there was a "verbal" contract...there was not...and they had a host of high pressure questions...this is a dirty company and stay away!
We had Adt and then after awhile shut it off. We recently made the decision to turn our services back on and they were amazing! The Adt crew came out to the house and updated our entire system, upgrading our keypad and walking each family member through their own pass code. They made sure we knew how to use their services to the best of our ability. We even got a remote!

ADT is not an honest company. Worse company ever. Very bad customer service , useless and they toss you around from one vendor to the other!End result nothing we can do , just pay your bill and shut the hell up.I would never recommend this company to anyone and I will make sure my comments are showing on every social media .Bottom line, they don’t tell you that you are locked in a 3 year contract ,and if you relocate , they will renew your contract for a new 3 years term!What a rip -off.
ADT was officially ready to protect your home using ADT Canopy. Canopy is a contract-free offer with the option of self-installing equipment. The first available integration included LG’s Smart Security camera, which was discontinued less than a year after launch. While the future of ADT Canopy is unclear, it’s possible that some options may be coming soon.
We had ADT service for about 3 years in Columbus, OH. We “tested” the system several times, when our cat would accidentally set it off, or when we would by forgetting to turn it off and then opening the door. And every time the company quickly contacted us, always very professional and calmly asked for our security code. I felt very confident that in a true emergency they’d be just as responsive!

I have only good things to report about ADT: the installation was smooth and the engineer who installed it was very knowledgeable and gave me good tips about overall security. I love the features on the wireless system and thankfully nothing has happened, but I am definitely feeling safer after the system was installed. Until you’re ready to sign, it’s hard to determine exactly what your ADT home security system will cost. While standard equipment is included in their pre-configured packages, additional sensors or devices may need to be purchased a la carte. The technician arrived to install the system and explained how the 2-way voice works. I think I will use the Pulse App feature alot more than this but it is a good feature to have. Don't count on getting a rate at the $36.99 mentioned price, most likely it will be around $45-50 unless you do the old land line system. Either way I got a good deal and a lot of free equipment so thanks for doing this research.
When I called and got ADT installed I was impressed that they stayed around to individually test each sensor for me and make sure I was good to go. I don't think I would have been able to do this on a self installation package that other companies offer. We tested that it was connected to their monitoring station and my local authorities -- a true peace of mind!
3. I understand the security reasoning about not wanting to disarm the system via routines, but you should be able to arm it via one. Case scenario I have an Inovelli scene enabled light switch by the back door. Right now, I have it programmed when we are leaving the house two presses of the switch off activates my goodbye routine which turns off all the lights, TVs, sets the thermostat to away and sets a timer for the door locks for 30 seconds. It would be nice to be able to arm the alarm to stay or away from this routine, instead of having to get the app out to arm it.
Yes and no. You're paying that monthly for storage but you have no monitoring setup. No guarantees and other things unique to ADT as well. Security cameras don't act as a full home security system; the two are actually usually bought and used separately. Most people add security camera systems as an added measure of security on top of their monitoring provider. You could go with the basic ADT plan for the alarm system and then add your own camera system (different brand) rather then paying the higher Pulse tier fee. This would be ideal for most people looking to both and still save money in your situation.

"Have only had system for 2 weeks. Easy to use and effective. Only problem is when in "Away" mode the motion sensor picked up our 13 pound cat jumping up on a desk close by...THREE times! Needs sensitivity adjustment. Police, however, did come each time, so it does indeed work. Not sure why I needed a motion sensor if none of the door/window connections were broken???"

This is the worst company around . Very poor service fought with them for over 2 weeks to transfer to new place. They set appointments then never show up. This started April 21 they finally showed up April 30 to remove the system put it in a plastic bag handed it to me said I will be back at 9 AM May 1 to install at new house. For the 4 time it was a no show. Finally showed up May 10 and half ass installed it. As of today we still up able to use it. I also found they charged my account. Whatever you do not use this worthless company unless you want all your stuff stolen due to ADT not being able to provide a good service of protecting you home and family. ADT you are more then welcome to call me you have the number but you will not like the conversation. I give the same respect you give to me. So you know that it going to be a crappy conversation to match your crappy company service.
When we purchased our system it was for peace of mind for our home. Never would we have thought that it would be what saves our daughter. Thanks to ADT when her ex-boyfriend came through the front door they alerted the police of the intruder alert and just almost a mins after police showed and he was found trying to kidnapp my daughter. The quick response of alerting the police is what makes me stay and will forever be a ADT customer. Forever grateful.
I have ADT..I had to get it after we were robbed one afternoon while we were at work..I like ADT they are quick to call you if there is a problem and they will work with you if you have any questions..The only downside to ADT is that they are getting expensive..I have not priced around yet but I think that they are charging way to much a month for just the basics..Overall I have been happy with them..

The story: Founded in 1874 by Edward Calahan. They started out as a messenger/alarm service but quickly added fire and local authorities. In 1909, they were purchased by AT&T (a name you surely recognize). Shortly thereafter, AT&T sold ADT again. Fast forward some years to 1969 and ADT went public. In 1984, the were renamed and ten years later passed their one-millionth customer. In 1997, Tyco International Ltd. bought them out and since then they have acquired dozens of Ma & Pa security companies as well as big ones such as Brinks and Broadview Security.

Well - after being an ADT customer for 5 years and really never having an issue with one exception. when we bought the newest indoor infared camera I was not excited about the fact that it doesn't work in total darkness like they say. That is usually not an issue because we have a light turn on if it senses motion. The issue came when the light bulb burned out and the camera did sense motion but all we got was a clip of total blackness. Also the 4 minute reset is definetly an issue. When will ADT fix this? I am considering a nest camera because of these issues.
So since the guy was already there i was friendly and greeted him but explained i had canceled and was no longer looking for security at the moment due to some issues. He stated he couldn't leave until his boss gave him permission. His boss(ADAM)  was very rude and told him to just leave the security system on my counter and to leave and that i wasn't receiving a refund  (YET I DIDN'T EVEN RECEIVE INSTALLATION NOR DID HE EVEN TAKE OUT THE SYSTEM OUT OF HIS CAR)  When i told him(Adam) My husband was on deployment and wasn't moving in until January ADAM kept pushing it on me after telling him NO several times. He states he already had a cancellation and couldn't receive another cancellation for the day. THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. They instillation person was very nice but stayed at my house (inside) for 2 hours. I Had to speak to 4 different people just to cancel and have the tech person to leave.  It was the worst experience of customer service i have EVER experienced. ADT does not care about you only their money. WILL NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!! SCAM

The crew was knowledgeable, professional, and made sure that I understood what was being installed and how to use it. By the time they left, I had everything up and running, had been personally tutored in its use, and had set up basic accounts and access credentials for the main system, the web portal, the remote monitoring software, and the third-party equipment ADT installed for me.
First, I have been an ADT customer for 5 years; when I was researching an upgrade to my system, I called them first. This ADT install has resulted in a 3 month debacle by ADT that has yet to be corrected. The sales representative attempted to sell me equipment I already owned (I only realized this on installation day). And...because I was wanting a higher quality camera, the installers sold me "hd bullet" cameras. These cameras needed to be ordered and a second installation date set. On the first installation date, the installers did not follow their procedures and the HVAC did not work after ADT installed the thermostats. I had to hire an electrician to come and repair the HVAC.

Frontpoint requires a professional monitoring subscription plus a three-year contract. Monitoring plans range from $35 to $45 to $50 per month, each ascending tier unlocking additional features like home automation, mobile alerts, and camera storage. While not as flexible if you want to take a minimalist or independent approach to security, but appealing if you want the extra perks.

All of the systems we've tested feature an app that lets you use your smartphone as your command center to arm and disarm the system, create rules, add and delete components, and receive push notifications when alarms are triggered. Most apps also allow you to do things like view live and recorded video, lock and unlock doors, change thermostat settings, and silence alarms. Some apps will even use your phone's location services to automatically arm and disarm the system according to your physical location. The more expensive systems usually come with a wall-mounted panel that acts as a communications hub, with a touch-screen display that allows you to do everything the app does. The display lets you communicate with a professional monitoring service when an alarm is triggered and view video from any of the installed security cameras.
ADT’s security system provided peace of mind when I was a single parent with my two daughters. I could go to bed at night and feel that we were all very safe and well protected. The sense of security allowed me to rest each night knowing we were all protected. One of the best things in using ADT was that I never had a “false alarm” while using their services. I had heard of other services that would often give false alarms frightening everyone in the house. This never happened with ADT. When someone in the house would forget to unset the alarm and open the front door making the alarm sound, I always received a call promptly to make sure everything was okay. I was always asked for our password, also. When the responder was satisfied that all was well in my home, they never acted as if they were irritated with my own error. ADT provided great service. I am currently moving into a new home within the next two weeks and have chosen ADT again to use for my protection services.

ADT has four monitored security packages to choose from: basic, basic wireless, ADT Pulse, and ADT Pulse + Video. Their monthly fees are on the high side, from $36.99 to $58.99. They require a 36-month minimum contract. Additionally, in the event of early contract termination, ADT may ask the client to pay 70% of the monthly charges due for the balance of the first 36-months. They do offer a 6-month money back guarantee and a 90-day limited warranty for their products, but all in all a rather stringent pricing and contract policy.
