Monitoring doesn’t cost much with Scout, but whether you choose to do it yourself or have professionals do it for you, you’ll still be charged. This actually isn’t exceptional when it comes to DIY home security, however. For instance, while SimpliSafe boasts a free self-monitoring option, it won’t send you any notifications without a paid professional plan.

Because ADT uses individual retailers to sell its equipment and services, you never know exactly what your control panel (and other equipment) is going to look like until the installer knocks on your door. That means that if you like the ADT system at your brother’s house, there’s no guarantee that yours will look the same. This doesn’t impact how well an ADT security system protects your home, but it can be a bummer if you were expecting a particular panel and got something different.

A longtime leader in the industry, ADT Security Solutions is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. It can monitor systems from leading brands such as GE, Honeywell/Ademco, and ITI. ADT supports a full spectrum of hardwired and wireless security features that include environmental disaster prevention, emergency medical assistance, and home automation. Known for their customer service and live monitoring features, ADT offers systems that are easy to use and professionally installed.
When it comes to monitored security systems, many require expensive and inconvenient professional installation. SimpliSafe is different. This system is as customizable and DIY-friendly as the others on this list, plus, for a monthly fee, it offers 24/7 professional monitoring to give you extra peace of mind. The company’s no-contract monitoring system gets rave reviews from users who feel this is a cheaper and much more flexible alternative to typical security services. When you download the SimpliSafe app, you’ll have full control of your system and the amount of monitoring you receive — you can even customize how you get alerts and which alarm triggers get an emergency response or just a personal notification.
5 years ago my next door neighbors were robbed. I’m not sure what they took but what we knew was that there house had been watched for days by this guy. None of us in the neighborhood felt safe. We got ADT right after that & haven’t regretted it since! We’ve never had a REAL incident but my uncle had come over once late after a night out. As soon as the alarm went off so did the phone. ADT was quick to respond. We all sleep better with ADT!
Nest Secure offers an innovative twist on common security sensors, packing multiple functions into its Nest Detect sticks that serve as both door and window sensors and motion detectors in one. These devices also add nifty features like Quiet Open—where you can deactivate a single door to let the dog out—and Pathlight motion sensor lights. It’s pretty pricey as far as starter kit security systems go at $499, but if you’re already heavily invested in the Nest ecosystem, this might be the perfect flexible security system.
We have had an ADT monitored system for a few years now and I have no complaints whatsoever. We have intrusion monitoring as well as 24-hour fire monitoring. It gives us peace of mind when we are not home knowing that ADT is watching over our home. In addition, I would definitely suggest getting a second keypad for the bedroom, to prevent false alarms (think about waking and stumbling downstairs before your morning coffee).

ADT Authorized Premier Provider – Protect Your Home meets diverse customers’ security needs. The company can install hardwired and wireless security equipment that ADT can monitor. Highlights of the premium Protect Your Home security package are video surveillance, fire & flood monitoring, and home automation. We recommend reading local Protect Your Home reviews before signing an agreement, as customer service varies from dealer to dealer.

Some of the more expensive cameras are equipped with humidity and temperature sensors and will interact with other connected home devices such as thermostats and smart lighting systems. If you want to save some money, look for a camera with an SD card slot that allows you to record video when motion or sound is detected, but remember to save your recordings every so often before they are overwritten. Alternately, look for a camera that offers a cloud storage plan.

To make sure you’re getting the best-value system for your money get quotes from up to 5 companies first. Ask each of them to do a risk assessment on your property to see what areas of security need addressing and why. This on-site inspection should be free of charge. Never accept a company who says they don’t need to visit your property to do an inspection.
Wifi is the basic connect for everything in this modern age. Desktop computers and laptops were started using it to connect to the internet. Then, Kindles, tablets, and smartphones got in on this source of connection for the internet. Now, home security systems are getting in on the wifi connection. Protect America sat down and took a look of the five top picks for wifi home security for 2018. This time, they decided to look at the cameras that use wifi for connectivity. They looked through Tom’s Guide and PC Mag to come up with this list. Why go for a wifi security camera? Tom’s Guide offers an explanation:
When it comes to home security I'm a basic kind of guy. I just want it to know if someone breaks in my house so I can have my gun ready and protect my family. I use ADT, it seems the most logical and they have treated me great. I moved once with them which cost a little money but they installed the new Pulse system at my new place since I was due for an upgrade to cellular anyways. I don't do the cameras etc. but I do turn it on and off from my phone and that is easy with their ADT app.
Do-it-yourself security setups are ideal for homeowners on a budget because they can save you a bundle on installation charges and subscription fees. Most DIY systems are easy to install and are sold as kits that you can configure to suit your specific needs. As your needs grow you can order additional sensors and other components at your convenience and pair them to the system in a matter of minutes. Your basic entry-level DIY system may only support one or two wireless protocols and usually offers a limited selection of add-on components, while more expensive DIY systems will support multiple wireless protocols and are compatible with dozens of add-on components.
J comes in and starts looking around and does his ultimate security evaluation which would cover every window door and crack in my house against burglars.  $5,000 to cover all of that.  I said no and he went down the list to cover just the downstairs, then the back of the downstairs, then just the doors. This was the second issue of his high pressure sales tactics “I’m not trying to scare you, but…” That’s exactly what it felt like he was trying to do.
Professional monitoring means that, if an alarm is triggered, your system will send an alert to a command center and a trained dispatcher will assess the situation, alerting local emergency professionals if needed. With DIY monitoring, there’s no command center connected to your system. Your security system will send any alerts to your smart device for you to determine if emergency professionals should be called.
After the pricing ding, there's the service contract. Competitors, like SimpliSafe, have no contract and let you out of your service whenever you want. ADT signs you to a three-year contract. If you were to move during your contract period, but opt to keep the service, ADT would install a basic system at your new home for $249 and let you add components at a 25 percent discount until you hit $750 worth of hardware. After that, you'd pay full price for additional hardware. You could attempt to uninstall some of the components at your old home and move them to your new one and ADT would incorporate those, but whatever is left in the old house after you leave, ADT will simply try to resell to the next owner.

Hello Kenneth-We apologize for the poor experience. We were able to locate the account using the information provided in this review, and see that the installation was booked with an independent ADT authorized dealer, Defender Security. We will be reaching out to them on your behalf. Should you need to reach them directly, you can do so at 1-800-689-9554. If there are any other ADT-related concerns please email ADT at AlwaysThere@adt.com. Thank you. -Gabe
Home automation allows you manage features of your home — such as lights and door locks — with a mobile app or via voice commands. This means you can perform tasks like closing your garage door, adjusting your thermostat, or turning on lights even if you’re not at home. Most home security providers offer home automation and include a variety of smart home devices. If you already have a smart home and use an Amazon or Google smart hub, you can integrate your security system and manage it on the same app as your other devices. That said, it’s important to make sure your security system pairs with your smart hub before purchasing so as to avoid any issues when syncing the two.

Hello Amy. We apologize for this experience. We were able to locate your account and see that you did speak with our account management team and they have lowered your bill for the next 6 months. In regards to your existing contract was initially contracted through an authorized dealer, we apologize for that concern as well. A copy of the contract should've been provided to you to review once it was signed, allowing you ample time to review the terms and conditions and cancel within your 3 day right if you did not agree to them. Thank you. -Andrew

We have been with ADT for 5 years now, we called today to let them we are moving and would need our service transferred. They said there would be an installation charge, ok fine, but offered us less equipment at a higher monthly charge!!! They said that cost is based on service not equipment, we want the same service we have now, no add ones. BS and if we want to cancel that will cost us $500!!! Why just because we want to move which by the way is in the same area, will cost us more and we have to get less equipment.
ADT’s service is made of up equipment backed by monitoring. Their equipment is primarily made by Honeywell and DSC, two of the largest home security equipment manufacturers. The base of the system is the control panel; ADT typically uses the DCS PC 1500RK keypad or a PC 1500. The control panel communicates with sensors which are organized into zones and can protect different areas of your home. They offer PIR motion detectors, smoke detectors, heat sensors, glass break detectors, external sirens, indoor sounders, home security cameras, reed switches, and more. One of the most convenient devices is the key fob, which allows you to arm and disarm your home security system with the click of a button. The High-Decibel Alarm Siren is also worth mentioning; it signals not only threats from intruders but also fire and carbon monoxide.
Before they contact the authorities, the monitoring company has to make contact with you. If you don’t answer, they call a backup contact first and will contact the authorities if that person doesn’t answer. If you do answer, it’ll be up to you to determine if you want the police sent to your home. Police response time may vary depending on how busy the police department is.
Netgear Arlo Pro 2: The video resolution and frame goes for 1080p. Field of views goes up to 130 degrees. Night vision is included and the camera uses cloud storage. The pros are excellent-quality 1080p video, weatherproof, rechargeable batteries, supports IFTTT and Alexa voice commands, pre-buffered video recording, continuous recording capabilities, and free and subscription-based cloud storage. The cons are expensive, requires hub (included), and many features are only available when plugged in.
Just got the service Saturday and on Tuesday canceled, why because I got lied to.seen commercial saying camera was free but when he was at my home said it’s 300 for it,when called the supervisor told my husband, when she goes to buy a new car with bells and whistles there are hidden prices that you have to pay.that did it for us thank goodness we faxed the cancellation.1/16/18

Until you’re ready to sign, it’s hard to determine exactly what your ADT home security system will cost. While standard equipment is included in their pre-configured packages, additional sensors or devices may need to be purchased a la carte. For example, a surveillance camera, costs $169; a carbon monoxide sensor is priced at $189. Depending on the what you want included in your system, you can end up spending hundreds of dollars to maximize your security system’s capabilities.
ADT has the worse customer service and the worse legal department. Be careful business owners as ADT will rack up citations on your behalf with the county, not tell you anything about it and years later you find out you have hundreds of dollars in citations accrued that you owe. They dispatch police to your place of business during working hours so I don’t know who is worse, ADT or the actual Miami Dade County Code Enforcement Department. I guess you can say criminals and people that take advantage of others come in all shapes, sizes and disguises.
If This Then That or IFTTT for short, is a service that allows you to connect other services and applications together (using what IFTTT calls “applets”), letting you accomplish almost any task imaginable. For instance, you can use IFTTT to automatically cut off your phone’s WiFi when you leave home to save power. Just remember that if you use IFTTT to automatically disarm your system when you enter your home, your phone’s location service must be powered on. Otherwise you’ll get a loud surprise.
After doing quite a bit of research into home security systems I was referred to ADT. After speaking with a sales representative and being completely up front and honest on my end, the sales person completely lied about the equipment that would be provided, the cost of the monitoring service, AND even the offer of the referral and gifts cards with their deal.
SimpliSafe’s wireless security system makes for a painless DIY installation. The keypad and sensors, for instance, are mounted with sticky pads, eliminating the need for drilling. Its step-by-step guide walks you through the entire process, making it relatively simple to follow along and get your system running in no time. And, if you get stuck during your installation, a customer service rep is only a phone call away.

In 2017, ADT settled five class action lawsuits that claimed wireless sensors used between November 13, 2009 and August 15, 2016 were vulnerable to hacking. Claimants asserted that hackers could access a security system and disable it through certain wireless sensors used in ADT residential security systems. The suits were centered on ADT’s failure to disclose this potential liability. ADT has denied any liability and maintains that the claims have no merit. Rather than continuing litigation, the company agreed to settle and establish a million settlement fund in order to avoid the ongoing expense and uncertainty. February 26, 2018 was the deadline to file a claim in the settlement.
On the service side, however, ADT has been highly responsive. Support will attempt to fix your problem over the phone, including having you march through the house looking for panels and sensors to tweak, but if they can't help you resolve it within 15 minutes or so, they tend to default to sending someone out. All the technicians they've sent to my house since installation (three of them) have been prompt, courteous, and seemed to know what they were talking about.
The Pulse app also lets you access ADT's Home View, though you'll need to initially configure that using the web portal. Home View lets you create a visual blueprint of your house room by room and map where all your smart devices and security nodes are located. Once configured, Home View color-codes these device icons to show their status and summary activity screens, and if one of them is a camera, you can simply click on it to get a live view of what the cam is seeing.

For over two years, I paid ADT monthly for my alarm system, only to find out that they were not actually receiving signals from my home (so, in fact, the alarm system did not work). In compensation, they offered me 6 months at $15/month. Need to test your system more often people and make sure the monitoring company is calling you when the alarm gets set off regardless of what company you have; this should be done!
On-the-Go Access: Thanks to advancements in technology, monitoring your home while you’re away for extended periods has never been easier. Logging into your account online or through an app on your smartphone, you’re able to keep tabs on the comings and goings at your property even if you’re thousands of miles away. This is a huge plus for business owners too as they can monitor employees, day-to-day operations, out-of-hours deliveries, and so on while they’re on the move.
We have had ADT since 2011 since buying a new home. In the last 5 years we have had a few incidents. The phone rang immediately when the alarm went off. They were very quick to handle the situation & their customer service has always been excellent. There is no comparison to other home security monitoring services. I feel much safer knowing I always have 24 hour protection in my home.
ADT very dishonest we was on auto pay and it messed up which put us behind a little we called got it corrected they cancelled our service after telling us they had it worked out we went two days not knowing the service was off no phone calls nothing we found out on a Saturday they wouldn’t talk to us said call back Monday during business hours. They put my family in danger by giving them a false sense of being covered then just no concern wait till Monday. This company is very highly overrated and not trust worthy. I wasted a lot of money and my family is still not safe. Thanks ADT for nothing.
Setting up your security system on your own saves you money that you’d normally spend on professional installation—but your time is valuable too, so installing your own system still needs to be easy. SimpliSafe’s equipment is easy to set up. You don’t need to connect any wires or drill holes. This means you can set it up quickly, but it also means you can pack it up and move it to a new place without much trouble, which makes SimpliSafe an excellent option for renters.
Technology from ADT gets great reviews, despite the wide assortment of products. You can rest assured that everything from ADT is at least industry standard quality, if not better. While the monthly fees may seem high, ADT’s pricing doesn’t stray far from the pack, and in certain cases may be cheaper than other brands. You will lock into a 36-month agreement, but given the eight to eleven year average lifespan of a security system, this timeframe is relatively short compared to other providers’, which can be as long as a 5-year agreement.
Anything connected to the Z-Wave hub can be controlled via the mobile app. Lights can be turned on and off, smart locks can be activated or unlocked, and thermostats can be set on the fly. You can give as many people as you want access to your Pulse app, each with their own access code, though there will be only one primary user who has total access to all functionality via the Pulse web portal. You can also give different users varying levels of access to which systems they can control and even when they can get into your home.

I love the pricing and information you've given on this company, but I'm a little worried about not getting new equipment after 3 years. I don't want to have to fight for new things every time my contract comes up. Does making a 'threat' to leave the company really work? I'd hate to change companies every three years to get new equipment. I'd love to hear what other customers have done. Thanks.

I am extremely disappointed with my most recent encounter with an ADT technician by the name of John C. for starters I greeted him kindly and he completely ignored me as if I was speaking to someone else in the room . Upon him asking me what issues I was having with my system, he kept cutting me off stating we were using the system incorrectly, and raising his voice at me to the point he was practically yelling at me answering me in a scornful manner. For someone whose job consists of interacting with other people and in this case required going into people’s homes where they are supposed to be helping a person, his behavior was very rude and unacceptable. The equipment, security system and ADT Pulse has been great. Just had a rough start with the tech but I suppose not all of them are going to be like that, he could've been having a bad day.
The ADT outdoor IP video camera over the garage works well, supports night vision, and is activated automatically via a motion sensor, though you can also log into your Pulse web portal or mobile app and get a live view at any time. However, I experienced several instances where the Pulse software refused to connect to the camera. A technician's visit didn't cure the problem, though he did install a weatherproof sleeve that was overlooked during the initial installation and seemed to reduce the problem somewhat. The ADT Pulse mobile software was updated during my first three months with the system, and since that's happened I've only experienced one outage that was cured by my logging out and back in again.

ADT has been the only home security service I've ever seen my family use when I was growing up and now I've installed it in my own home! It's just the perfect home security because it got you covered in 150 places without stress. Their packages are great and the support is always there to clear any confusion so you don't regret any choice. Maybe I'm just lazy and don't care to do further research but it's always worked for me. I don't think they could be a scam if they have 7+ million paying customers.
I had someone enter my home when I was at work. ADT called me right away but the cops didn't show up in time. I called back to see what ADT recorded as to how quickly they called (to see if it was their fault or police) and they said they called dispatch after neither myself or my wife answered our phones. So regardless of how quick or slow ADT may be, it still is up to your local authorities to trust their word and come check out your house. A few things got shuffled around with but nothing of real value got stolen. Not fun knowing someone has been snooping around in our home and now I am adding some Pulse cameras to the system for better surveillance.

I really like the upgrade to their Pulse smart phone control app. It makes everything much easier. Got rid of the old crummy control panel, got a sleeker one and put it in the closet and then setup sub accounts for my kids and anyone I want to access the home security system. I don't feel ripped off by their pricing although I'm skeptical that it really costs $50 a month for monitoring. I suppose they need to make their money somewhere and this is where they do.

Hey Steve., Your right that the Pulse app is a big selling point for most customers. I think what she meant by that is that when the app isn't functioning; your security system still is and monitoring is working. That is the core and luckily during the Pulse app updates the primary function (being monitored 24/7 by ADT) is still in LIVE mode. Thanks and best of luck, we have heard it's back to working smoothly.

The Internet of Things has made it easier than ever to set up a smart home in which you can remotely control your door locks, lights, thermostats, vacuums, lawn mowers, and even pet feeders, using your smartphone and an app. It's also made it simple (and relatively affordable) to monitor your home from pretty much anywhere. Smart security systems are highly customizable and available as do-it-yourself kits or as full-blown setups that include professional installation and monitoring.
We are 20+ years loyal ADT customers. As veterans, my husband and I felt extremely comfortable leaving the country knowing our family's home security was being monitored by ADT while we were deployed. However, since our new home install in 2013, we have had nothing but issues; false alarms, unreliable alarm settings, unprompted notifications from the keypad, etc. We've made numerous calls, paid for upgrades, and had techs come to the house for troubleshooting with no resolution.
I am a single mother and the "security system" I have received is a necessity. I do not feel safe which is the entire reason I went with a home security system. I'm still waiting for that amazing 'peace of mind' to happen as you see advertised everywhere but I do feel better with it installed thus far. I think I will always be paranoid regardless of what I have at home but it's a step in the right direction.
Because ADT has over six million customers and counting, it's easy to find lots of reliable ADT monitoring security reviews, so you can get opinions from real customers. We have the latest ADT monitoring reviews from customers across the nation. As you can see, these ADT reviews have a few patterns. Customers consistently mention stand-out service, reliable monitoring, and professional Protect Your Home technicians. With these ADT monitoring security reviews, you can see why ADT is America's #1 security provider.
So the salesperson told him that he would wait to talk to me, the wife, and was told that he wouldn’t. Today I was talking to a friend and she was pretty much told the same thing about the phone line and breaking in and she told him that she has a dog and he replied that he could break in and kill the dog, REALLY? This kind of sales pitch is creepy when they say what if I, instead of what if someone. It just makes Vivint’s salespeople sound like stalkers.

At the end of the day, I believe that ADT wants to provide a good product and customer service, however, communication system is disjointed, broken and ineffective. The most disappointing thing is the fact that three different parties in different parts of their organization have gone completely cold in response to my attempts to determine how to fix my problem. I can only assume that they are completely incapable of addressing situations that are outside of the norm, especially when the issue is something that they should have informed me about before the equipment was installed. This is not only a disgrace from a customer service perspective, but completely insulting to a consumer who has a choice when selecting a home security service.
A good review post! I have been in this industry for many years and along with using many different companies so far (both at home and work) I've come back around to ADT. It's a long story but I got hosed when my small boutique moved and I was using a local security company that was charging me an arm and a leg to move and upgrade so I went back to ADT pulse after paying their cancellation fee and I'm able to use it at both my Home and Business with a discount too.
ADT Home Security systems are very user-friendly, and during installation, the technician will show you how to use the equipment. There is technical support available to answer any questions customers have about the equipment. ADT offers professional installation, several monthly plans with competitive rates, and allows users to choose between wireless and hardwired systems. Overall, ADT security systems are the most reliable and the most popular in communities throughout the nation. Keep in mind, though, that customers must sign a three-year agreement for all ADT security monitoring plans.
"When we saw there was an upsurge in break-ins near our home we decided to compare some of the different home security companies, and ended up going with ADT. Choosing ADT to keep our home and family protected was the smartest choice we could have made, so now we don't worry as much as before since we know we're protected by a company that's always keeping an eye on everything 24 hours a day. Thank you ADT!"
I talked with a representative about a home security system. As we talked she asked me questions regarding number of windows/doors etc. She told me we would get window/doors sensors (never actually told me how many my mistake for not asking), also told me it wasn't a problem to include an extra key fob and the really great news was we were going to have all this "free" money to purchase anything else we wanted off the service truck. Salesman and installer arrive and we find out that extra key fob was coming out of our "free" money the representative never ever mentioned this fact.

Even if we didn't get a military discount (I'm in services) I still would have gone for ADT. Almost all of my fellow comrades are using ADT in their houses and they don't have any complaints yet. Though obviously military discount is always sweet. It goes on to show how caring and patriotic a company is towards their nation. No home security company I know of does that I think.

Well - after being an ADT customer for 5 years and really never having an issue with one exception. when we bought the newest indoor infared camera I was not excited about the fact that it doesn't work in total darkness like they say. That is usually not an issue because we have a light turn on if it senses motion. The issue came when the light bulb burned out and the camera did sense motion but all we got was a clip of total blackness. Also the 4 minute reset is definetly an issue. When will ADT fix this? I am considering a nest camera because of these issues.
Current ADT customers.. If you are making changes to your home that will effect the security system like putting in new windows expect to pay for a tech to come out and fix or install the new equipment needed. Tech rates will be like what you should expect when you take your car in and have no idea whats wrong with it. You’ll see a up front rate plus an hourly rate. Equipment cost is a whole other issue.
ADT Pulse Home Control with Video – Installation starts at $499. Burglary, Fire, Carbon Monoxide and Medical Alert monitoring requires purchase and/or activation of an ADT security system with monitored Burglary, Fire, Carbon Monoxide and Medical Alert devices. Fire, Carbon Monoxide and Medical Alert services are an additional charge. Quality Service Plan (QSP) is ADT’s Extended Limited Warranty. 36-month monitoring contract required from $59.99 per month, ($2,159.64), including Quality Service Plan (QSP).   Additional charges may apply in areas that require guard response service for municipal alarm verification. Prices subject to change. Prices may vary by market. Some insurance companies offer discounts on Homeowner’s Insurance. Please consult your insurance company. Local permit fees may be required. Satisfactory credit history required. Additional monitoring fees required for some services. Photos are for illustrative purposes only and may not reflect the exact product/service actually provided.
