Thanks to my ADT alarm system, my autistic son is thriving today… Being the parent of an autistic child is very challenging, specifically when his sleeping pattern is so off that we (the parents) are completely exhausted. I had my ADT system for a while and actually was planning on opting out of it. Because I had more “important things” to take care of. One day while at work, the person I left in charge of my child fell asleep, my 3 year old wanderer was actually about to open the door, and the alarm send me an alert as well as another to the police. My family has been using ADT while I was growing up (guess you could say I was born and bread white and blue) so I ended up following in their footsteps and got it for my own home whether that was the best deal or not I don't know. Installation process was quick, the guy really wasn't here for too long at all. The "smart" option is a bit confusing and I wish it was explained a bit better, but in time I'll figure it out. I can truly say they are one of the better security systems out there.
After spending 1.5 hours on the phone and speaking to SEVEN operators, I STILL wasn't able to cancel my service. (I want to bundle with Xfinity.) While I was on hold, I was contemplating whether to keep ADT service so that I wouldn't have to pay the $480 penalty fee to break my contract. But, after that experience, I'd happily pay that amount so that I won't ever have to deal with ADT or Safe Street ever again!
I just got rid of m ADT system. It was installed onOctober 1st and in the four months I had it, I had at least 14 service calls to fix broken or non-functioning equipment and more calls from them telling me that a window was open when it was not. The window in question has not been opened over 25 years. And every time they would call about my “open window”, it would make the alarm impossible to set because it required over-riding that window. I got a call from an ADT representative telling me they were receiving an alarm from my system. Amazing breakdown! I have been looking all over at different companies and they never tell you who does what better because they all want your business. I am sold on this company and am giving them a call now. When we purchased ADT Security Company we thought it was kind of expensive, but we were willing to pay the price because when we would drive around in nice neighborhoods we would see their signs in so many peoples yards that we assumed that they must have been a good choice. Boy, were we wrong! We did not have get the service that we expected. Our alarm kept going off at all times of the night and day. Our neighbors started started complaining. The police even came out numerous times, and they started getting frustrated with us. I was even afraid that we might be sued fro disturbing the peace. Then when we would call the company, or they would call us they were many times very rude, or irritated. Needless to say, they weren’t worth the price, so we cancelled their services, and have been shopping around for someone better. Maybe each town’s ADT company is different, but now I warn all my neighbors, and friends to go with someone else!
Worst service ever. Was told that I would be quoted one thing when I ended up having to spend much more. Have been trying to get reimbursed for over a month now. When our tester told her she needed more time to shop around, the rep was understanding and didn’t press the issue.
I have been a loyal ADT customer for thirty years. I had decided to upgrade my security in November of 2017 by adding security cameras. I had it in my mind to buy the DVR system before my security sales associate came out to my home to evaluate my very specific needs. She came and I showed her my Verizon flaw that put us at risk with our system. Explained to her that the hard wire for the telephone could easily be cut and our old system would not be able to communicate with adt monitoring. We agreed to upgrade to a wireless system equipment to solve this problem. I paid for this to be done.I also told her we wanted to purchase a camera system and relayed all the reasons why and what specifically we needed. She made the recomendation to purchase from ADT the pulse camera system. We were told about the thirty second clips with two details left out. The detail about the camera going offline after EVERY thirty second clip for FOUR MINUTES, that at times is actually NINE MINUTES of no recording. The camera is asleep missing anything that happens. Any person on earth can google ADT REVIEWS and learn of this FLAW. YES that includes the burglars, murderers and rapists. It is not a secret. I did not look at the reviews until I noticed this flaw until I actually was missing an event. I trusted ADT. My sales associate told me that the camera would record each event as long as there was motion. She did not tell me about the sleepy time camera ever. So I’ll back up to the actual install day. So install day comes and the guy puts up the first camera and I notice that the housing of the base of the camera does not cover up the wire. It is completely exposed and can be cut by anyone. I told him this was unacceptable and he called the office and informed me that I needed the dome cameras instead. Now I have to say that I don’t understand why this sales person sold me these cameras in the first place. I took her outside and showed her the exposed verzion wire and told her how upset I was that anyone could cut this and my system would no longer communicate with adt monitoring. At this point, the tech made a new appointment for a tech to come out and switch out, to the dome cameras where the wire is protected under a housing and can not be easily cut if installed in the eve of a one story house. He finished up the install wiring and the install of my ring front door camera. He closed up the closet where he had been working and said goodbye and left. Next day we go out and set our alarm. We come back and our alarm code no longer was accepted. Alarm goes off. We could not get it to respond. When I opened up the closet to look at my alarm panel the door was unlocked and open with wires hanging loose all over the place. A computer device was attached to these wires and for the life of me I thought we had been robbed by the mission impossible crew. We called ADT and a lady had to walk me thru removing the battery from the alarm system to get it to stop the alarm. I’ll also mention that they did not receive a signal at all for this alarm event. So service day comes and the technician arrives and opens up the door to the system and could not believe what he was seeing. He asked why the previous tecnitiins test equipment was there still. He said he had changed our alarm code and had left our system in test mode. Great........ I fall safe already.... not! After he corrected all that mess and the replacement dome cameras were installed, One of the dome cameras was malfunctioning the very next day and we had to make another appointment to have that one replaced. Now they are working. The visibility is great. The night vision is great. BUT the thirty second clip is for the birds. That thirty second clip turns into a twenty five second clip when you notice that the camera actually backs up each clip a few seconds and shows you at first nothing and then includes the nothing in the thirty second clock. So basically if you have a slow murderer or robber you will only get a clip of them for twenty five seconds and then the recording will stop and you will actually get nothing of the crime. It’s POiNTLESS with a THREE YEAR CONTRACT and if you don’t figure it out before three days that you’ve been sold a piontless camera system that was intentionally designed and manufactured this way, you are up the creek without a paddle or in this case no video footage of the actual crime. Needless to say I’m very dissatisfied with my security sales consultant recommended system purchase. Based on the fact that she knew ahead of time what events were happening around my property and why I needed a camera system in the first place. This Pulse system has alot of bells and whistles but I did not opt for those for automating my house. I only wanted the cameras to capture crime events. Not partially and not on a time clock. I would also like to add that she also sold me a ring front door bell system. This system opened my eyes to the fact that technology exists that does not hobble you into a pointless purchase of a disfunctional system Ring captures every motion activated event without delay with clips. It stores them in the cloud for only thirty dollars a year. WITH SOUND It also has a free app for your phone, your computer, your iPad, your husbands phone. It notifies you every time someone rings your doorbell or moves I front of it with controllable zones. Way to go RING! You can answer that call on your device of choice and talk to that person while recording the video and conversation before and after you answer the ring. So I have to say, what’s the point in buying ADT’s cameras at all. Just install RING flood motion lights with cameras built in and doorbells front and back and be done with it. No contract. No SLeepy TIME missing events No lies by omission, or missing facts. No lack of customer satisfaction or attempts to make it right. Loyal customer no longer loyal!
I have the ADT Premier Pulse system.  I got a good price on the install and the system worked.  Enjoy the automation.  I have added over a dozen of my own modules using the installer code.  Recently I wanted to expand the system with wired camera’s.  To do this requires an IP server/decoder called the NV412A-ADT.  This unit costs about 75 dollars with an ADT analog camera at 250.00  installing one unit can be pretty pricey.  I had analog ADT cameras from another source (ebay) much cheaper.  My local ADT sales person seemed unable or unwilling to purchase the NV412’s for me.  I posted on their facebook page and got a quick response.  They made me advise them of the camera model numbers before they would sell me the product.  My local sales person eventually just stopped trying to help.  I was shocked by that.  Bottom line, they wanted to do the install.  I don’t need them to.  Since they were not going to make any money on the deal they didn’t seem to worried about moving quickly on this issue.  Very frustrating.  I do love the system.
A few minutes into the DIY installation, our tester got stuck getting her control panel up and online — it just wouldn’t connect. A help window popped up with a number to call, and a Frontpoint rep helped her troubleshoot the connection. After about 10 minutes, he could tell there was an issue with the circuit board. Certainly not ideal — but the rep apologized and shipped her replacement control panel overnight.
My upfront costs were high compared with the competition, and even if they'd come in at ADT's more average price of $1,100 to $1,500, I still would have choked a bit. But as you'll see below, mine is a fairly decked out example of an ADT installation. While I wasn't thrilled about the very expensive startup charge, the monthly dues seem reasonable considering what was installed. And while my addition of the Quality Service Plan cost me another $11 per month, I felt that was worth it since it covers parts and labor on any devices that need fixing; and besides, I received a $7 and change monthly discount because I'm a State Farm customer, a discount that'll apply to you, too, if you use not just State Farm, but also USAA, MetLife, Chubb, and several other insurance providers. That brought me down to just under $64 per month, which I feel is worth it.

First off, they will charge you an up front $99 to install, plus charge tax on that, even before you get a technician to conduct the review to set up the system. Then, the promise of equipment – they promise “pre-wired” door and window sensors, however this only actually applies if you have an existing security system and all sensors are wireless anyway, so really they offer 7 wireless sensors ($129 per additional sensor). They will bait you on by saying “a manager is on and will work with you to approve this” – don’t believe it, as you’ll never hear from that manager ever again, even when you have his/her manager id number.
Hey Jen, the thing I have liked most about ADT is you get the most respect out of the yard sign for it. Sounds like you are in the ghetto (or bad part of town) like me and just having the sign alone gives my home the respect it needs on the block. I like the service too but the sign is the best part, also nice if you work graveyards or weird shifts like lots of us in the hood do.
Before I met my new husband I was a single mom for a while and by myself with 2 kids in the house sometimes got a little scary. I used to be afraid someone would break in the glass door even though I had a stopper in to keep it secure. Once I had ADT I felt totally secure and able to sleep at night. Never had any problems with them. Would recommend them to anyone.
Remote Control: Instead of using the keypad to deactivate your alarm, some systems do come complete with a remote control. There are some disadvantages to these, however, including the inability to see if your alarm is activated (adding to the risk of you tripping the system), and if the remote is stolen, it provides thieves with an easy way of deactivating your alarm.

I looked at so many reviews and everyone always has ADT in the top three. My wife and I were getting concerned about the safety of her and our new little one when I have to go out of town every other weekend so we got ADT and I must say the experience was refreshing. Everyone we spoke with knew what they were doing and we had our system up and running lightning fast.

Agreed, thanks for the research on this company. You guys pointed out several things I didn't know or hadn't thought of. The only reason I was maybe not going to get ADT was because it seems 'generic' but they seem to have the best equipment and their contract states they won't raise your monthly price so all around worth it. After calling a few other companies as well I feel much more comfortable with ADT's reliability.

ADT is an excellent company with state of the art equipment, solid company financials, and courteous professional employees. As a retired law enforcement professional, former head of security for a major company, and now security consultant I have used ADT for over many years. Have there been some problems? Of course – complicated security systems always have some glitches. But the problems have been quickly and professionally resolved. ADT is a good company with a solid track record.
My husband was the warden at several prisons in our state, and so we lived in housing on the prison grounds. Surprisingly, it was a safe, secure, relaxing environment. When he got promoted and we moved back into the house we owned “in town,” we left the “gated community.” It was much different, and we felt a security system would lend to much needed peace of mind. The system we got was easy to use, install, and works very effectively for a reasonable price!
Again, all of the issues that we encountered in the first few months were frustrating, but taken individually (or even collectively), these issues wouldn’t necessarily compel me to persuade consumers to NOT use ADT since most of the technicians and customer service agents which whom I interacted generally appeared to have good intentions to help customers and to provide good customer service.
