Hi Tonya - alarm equipment really lasts longer than three years! It really hasn't come too far in technology since it went from wired security systems to wireless. In the 14 years since its been little things like key remote, touch screens etc but you really don't need to replace a alarm system every three years! (Or at least I dont). I'm sure if you call them they will work something out for you but basically is sounds like if you don't ask for it after contract is up they aren't going to be the ones to remind you you need new equipment. Just like any other monthly company (phones, Internet, TV) if you are paying with no questions asked they will just enjoy having a steady payment coming in. Thanks to geofencing, you will be able to set up notifications to let you know who is where. For example, you can receive a notification when your kids make it to school or when they make it home. That same feature provides accurate emergency response, even when you’re away from home. If a crash is detected, ADT will send help. Alternatively, if you’re in a situation where you don’t feel safe, you can use the SOS Emergency Response feature. This feature is akin to panic button apps like SafeTrek. Good insight. A criminal would have to be one very well researched guy to know that tip about ADT cameras. My guess is the burglar would move on to the next home if they saw cameras but still good information to know. You're right, there aren't too many cameras that go hand in hand with a security system yet. Getting Swann or other DVR systems that record 24/7 is a good idea. Also Vivint has good integration with their cameras (probably the best out of all security companies currently).

The camera's auto-record function is based on motion sensors tuned to ignore small animals. The cam will record a 30-second video clip, then pause for four minutes before it records again. Auto-recorded clips are stored in ADT's Pulse cloud and can be accessed via the Pulse app. The camera operates at 720p resolution and you can record either a manual video or a still snapshot using the Pulse mobile app. All video clips, your own or the ones the camera takes automatically, are stored in ADT's cloud for 30 days. If you want to download anything to save long-term, it's doable, but only using the ADT web portal, not the mobile app. All this functionality comes with your Pulse service contract, none of it costs extra. When the tech installed my service he installed the motion detector upside down. Yes, upside down. I didn’t even know I didn’t have service for the first two months because it was scanning my ceiling. I had to go online and look at diagrams to figure it out myself that it was facing the wrong direction! Then they had to send someone back out for them to install it correctly. Then 6 months later, the electric door panel they installed craps out. I call them, and they tell me I have to call the manufacturer to send the device and then call them so they can come install it. Basically, I had to reinstall it myself (took hours) or pay to have ADT install it again.

The reason I got ADT was so that in case I needed to move out of state for my work (a possibility at the moment) I wouldn't have to pay a early termination fee for moving 'out of service area' as I've seen with other companies contracts. I believe I'll have to pay a $199 or so moving fee but that's better then cancelling and signing up with a new company once moved.

- I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to display the local time on the touchscreen. The time shown is technically correct, but appears to be shown as UTC time. I'd like to get it display as CST/CDT, but haven't seen any option to change that display feature either within the iOS app, via the SmartThings web portal, or on the touch screen itself.
Install was performed by subcontractor and done wrong. ADT charged me again to have someone else do it right, still isn’t correct. Cars were broken into which had two cameras on them and didn’t record any of it. The cameras only record 30 second increments with 2 minutes in between, I’m guessing criminals also know this. Contract end date keeps changing, further and further out. Avoid ADT at all cost. There’s much cheaper services out there that actually work.
I bought $2k+ of equipment after being told that the equipment was transferable to a new residence since I was installing it in a rental residence I did not own. It was explicitly explained that I was renting and would be moving within 3 years and was promised I could take all equipment with me to be installed in another home. When I moved I was informed that the equipment cannot be transferred but that a $500 moving credit is given, however the new home I was moving into had “a better system” and the $500 credit would cover the little bit of equipment I was missing to give me an “even better system” than I had in the previous home. New contract was signed based on this. No new equipment was installed – turns out the only existing equipment was a couple of door sensors and hard wired alarm pads, which were not used. There are no sensors on windows or 3 of the 5 doors. My last home had over ten window sensors and 5 door sensors as well as 2 alarm pads at entry doors. Now I have two doors protected and one alarm pad that can only be used in a room that is not a primary entry point and would require me to run across the house to disarm every time I enter my home. It is a 3 year contract that has to be paid in full so I am now paying for services for 3 years that cannot be used and were sold under completely false pretenses. The company refuses to deliver what was promised and continues to try to get me to buy more equipment to get what i already paid for. What’s more is that I had a 3 year contract in the previous home that they reassigned to another 3 year contract after having already fulfilled 2 years of the first contract – this is not what was explained to me, I was told the new contract was for the 1 year difference. I either have to cough up $800+ to cancel the contract or continue to pay for monitoring on equipment not installed.
i love the fact of having a security system for my family i dont like the fact i have to pay alot for things to be covered under the system every window door and camera is extra.i love having a keypad but the response is very slow i dont like having a gap if the alarm goes off to when they contact you they should be calling as soon as alarm goes off the customer service is great price is ok but they should offer better packages to secure house instead of everything extra

There are a few things you should do when an ADT tech gets to your house so I am passing these tips onto everyone that reads this. First make sure you get all the signs and decals you want. Putting stickers on the back doors and windows where burglars typically come through could be a life saver. Also, make sure they walk you through how to run the Pulse app on your phone. It's really easy but I was confused on my account login information and they helped out there. Lastly, make sure to write down your verbal password (to verify false alarms) and let your whole family know. So far their security system has been what we needed!

I know a lot of people complain about the $99 installation fee but trust me, if you have ever tried to install one for the first time...$99 is a cheap price to pay! I wish I would have paid someone to install mine for me. It was a headache to do! Anyways, I'm with ADT and it's a great system for my family. Never had a issue them and I don't have a problem with their equipment. It does the job!

Updated on 11/21/2018: I wanted to follow up regarding the resolution to my situation. Turns out there is no resolution. I called, emailed and called again the CEO's office and they didn't can would not answer my questions. Hung up on me. Their so called Corporate Relations Manager, is a joke, she needs a back to basics training in customer service. They know they are wrong that is why they will not comment on my review. If you look at other 1 star reviews put on here after mine, you will see their response to say sorry to the customer, but mine? They won't even bother. They know I am telling the truth. Since they want to go ahead and blacklist me and remove services, that's fine. I will gladly take my money elsewhere; but they couldn't answer the one question I had for them that they are trying to use as their defense. Where does it say in the contract that they can cancel at any time and for any reason? Nowhere! Read the fine print.

Their security has a major loop-hole that could get you killed or your house could burn down and no one will ever be called. 1. If your home phone line goes down the word “communication” shows up. And that’s it. No call to secondary phones, nothing! That single word with no other warning as to what it means is all they do. That means: a home invasion break in could happen, you’re being raped or murdered or stealing all your valuables and no one is coming because no one knows. I installed all of the included hardware and monitoring devices, which includes two window or door detectors and a motion detector. After a week of receiving motion alerts in my home, I disabled and removed motion detector from my account. I have a couple of security cameras in my house, both of which also alert me on my phone to any motion, so I wasn't afraid of missing anything related to movement.

We’ve been extremely pleased since our switch to ADT. Our business is attached to our residence, and our alarm system covers both office and living spaces. With two keypads and several trigger spots (doors, windows and a motion detector), we are fully protected at all hours of the day or night. We’ve had a few technical glitches, but our local response service has been very efficient in fixing the problems. And always so friendly!
Technology from ADT gets great reviews, despite the wide assortment of products. You can rest assured that everything from ADT is at least industry standard quality, if not better. While the monthly fees may seem high, ADT’s pricing doesn’t stray far from the pack, and in certain cases may be cheaper than other brands. You will lock into a 36-month agreement, but given the eight to eleven year average lifespan of a security system, this timeframe is relatively short compared to other providers’, which can be as long as a 5-year agreement.
Wow,  I am blown away here. Did anyone read the ad you got in the mail, on the internet? Did you listen to the recording when you called in? It say’s free setup of 2 door sensors, 1 motion sensor and 1 keyless remote. NO WHERE does it say they cover all of your windows extra doors ect at no extra charge. These are all upgrades you can add to your account just like a smart phone VS a little flip phone or a neon VS a viper. You pay for what you get. You are getting 99 dollars worth. They have to pay for the parts, pay the installer pay for the advertising ( That flyer you called in on is not free)

Although all the alarms at my house have been false due to forgetting the alarms were on or accidentally breaking something, all of these were responded to very quickly by very courteous and efficient personnel. I feel very safe in my home when I’m there and very confident that my home is monitored well when I’m away. Tremendously thankful for a wonderful alarm system and helpful staff.

ADT offers customer support via phone and email. If the system begins to malfunction, customers are urged to call and set an appointment with a company technician, but it will cost you. If you don’t want to pay for support, there is a handbook that shows you how to test the system, but the process can be tedious. ADT security reviews online indicate most customers avoid the trouble of DIY support and opt to pay the monthly maintenance fee.
A good review post! I have been in this industry for many years and along with using many different companies so far (both at home and work) I've come back around to ADT. It's a long story but I got hosed when my small boutique moved and I was using a local security company that was charging me an arm and a leg to move and upgrade so I went back to ADT pulse after paying their cancellation fee and I'm able to use it at both my Home and Business with a discount too.
Very happy with ADT. I bought an investment property and decided to get an alarm system installed during the five months the property was being renovated. After talking to an ADT representative, I decided to go with them. Things were a little different getting it setup since it wasn't my primary residence but they were able to secure it. It was nice not having to worry about someone breaking in and stealing tools or doing damage to it while it was being renovated.
We had ADT service for about 3 years in Columbus, OH. We “tested” the system several times, when our cat would accidentally set it off, or when we would by forgetting to turn it off and then opening the door. And every time the company quickly contacted us, always very professional and calmly asked for our security code. I felt very confident that in a true emergency they’d be just as responsive!
Are the burglers smart enough to cut the TV cable? I use VOIP, which ADT can connect to, because I had them do that at a home I had in California. Having them use the cell chip is the smarter way. I thought because I had bad cell phone service my burglar alarm system would too but the technician taught me that they use a variety of cell tower signal strength (compared to just 1 that my phone uses) and there is never any outage. Cell monitoring is the way to go and most companies don't even offer land line service although ADT still will if you ask them too.
I got ADT for some reasons most don't think of. I am a business man and I know it takes years and years to build and structure a working business properly. I bought the ADT alarm because they have several monitoring stations throughout the USA all with backup features in case they get hit with a natural disaster. Their support is also levels deep in security and these are things you will not find in a review or hear about with newer companies. By them handling so many monthly customers has given them a reliable structure to handle big problems.

ADT backs their self-branded devices with third-party devices. For starters, Pulse is compatible with the Ring Video Doorbell. Customers can self-install or have their doorbell professionally installed. Of course, the integration works both ways. In addition to controlling your Ring doorbell through ADT Pulse, you can control ADT Pulse through the Ring app.


So the salesperson told him that he would wait to talk to me, the wife, and was told that he wouldn’t. Today I was talking to a friend and she was pretty much told the same thing about the phone line and breaking in and she told him that she has a dog and he replied that he could break in and kill the dog, REALLY? This kind of sales pitch is creepy when they say what if I, instead of what if someone. It just makes Vivint’s salespeople sound like stalkers.
