Initial quote and installation was misleading. We were quoted $39.99, plus a gift card and additional “credit” towards equipment. We were told if we didn't agree with the package we could decide not to install. Turns out the package I discussed with the original sales agent was $52.00 a month plus 4 payments of $400 for equipment. The technician was persistent and after stating several times we would like to crunch numbers before deciding due to the new quote, did not listen and kept installing. Did not give us the products we asked. I was charged twice for installation, once after my initial phone call and the second time after the installation.

I agree with most of the people here. ADT is the undisputed king when the talk is about home security. I have myself experienced their wonderful service on many occasions and still doing after 5 years of subscribing to an ADT plan. I'm a firm believer in a no-nonsense approach and so I prefer those companies too which follow the same policy. Without being too flashy and all, their security system gets the job done of protecting my house pretty well and that too without making much damage to my pocket. What more do I want...

I bought a house back in 2015 and decided to have a security system installed since I wasn’t going to be home much and would like some peace of mind. ADT was a pretty well known security company in my area and a few families in my neighborhood have ADT so I gave them a call. I ended up selling the house after a year and a half since I travel too much for work. I called to cancel my service to be told that I signed a three year contract and that I’d have to pay the remainder of the contract or I wouldn’t be able to cancel. I told them that I did not sign a contract and I was not made aware of there being a contract. The contract that I supposedly signed was emailed to me and the “signature” on the contract was nowhere close to mine. I was told to fill out a fraud package, to which I did. I filled out and sent in a fraud package only for the fraud department to say that my signature was “confirmed” and that it was me who sign it. How could I have sign a contract I was never informed about or seen? The only form I signed was the installment agreement and nowhere did it say I have to have the service for three years.

When you installed your services in CO, you would have signed and been provided with a copy of your residential services agreement, that clearly spells out the term of the agreement, 36 months. When we purchased our system it was for peace of mind for our home. Never would we have thought that it would be what saves our daughter. Thanks to ADT when her ex-boyfriend came through the front door they alerted the police of the intruder alert and just almost a mins after police showed and he was found trying to kidnapp my daughter. The quick response of alerting the police is what makes me stay and will forever be a ADT customer. Forever grateful.
I was renting a house in the countryside in North Carolina. The landlord contacted ADT to install a new alarm system in the house. The previous system was no longer covered by anyone. The install was quick and complete. The only problem being the hall motion detector which they said shouldn’t pick up the movement of a 30# elderly dog, but routinely did. They disabled that sensor and didn’t have any more issues. Whenever there was an issue, they were quick to respond via phone and on one occasion had the police meet me at the house when a true alarm came in.

They will not stop their auto payment system and are overcharging us too. They will not stop their services until I respond to a email that came 1 week after my first call but I didn't see it before it expired. We are being charged more than contract price too. When I called again today, just like my first attempt, I was in hold for over 20 minutes. Again, I was told to expect an email and respond to it before they will cancel their auto pay. WHY SHOULDN'T THEY STOP THEIR SYSTEM? I told my wife that I guess we will have to close our bank account and move our money someplace else!

There are two types of glass break sensors: shock sensors and acoustic sensors. Worst business i have ever dealt with. From the start, i was lied to by the installation guy who said there is a grace period of a month to cancel the contact without a termination fee. When i called in a week later to cancel, ADT advised it was an incorrrect information which was given by an outsourced contractor so they can not be responsible for it. So i was stuck with them for two years. When i called to cancel the account after the two year contract was over, ADT required 30days cancelltaion period which meant they will simply collect a payment for an extra month for just wanting to cancel their ridiculous service which i want no part of ever again. From start to finish, this company is a borderline fraud.

We have had ADT since 2011 since buying a new home. In the last 5 years we have had a few incidents. The phone rang immediately when the alarm went off. They were very quick to handle the situation & their customer service has always been excellent. There is no comparison to other home security monitoring services. I feel much safer knowing I always have 24 hour protection in my home.

This company sucks! They insisted that I needed an ugrade to my monitoring to wireless. They sent out a rep that changed my system to wireless. Well the sensor in my bedroom kept signaling that there was break in. The police came out 3 times, where I was charged for 3 false alarms. I called ADT to complain, they said that I had to pay for the false alarms and show them proof of payment to be reimbursed. They sent out their tech, that fixed the problem and I mailed them proof of payment for the false alarms. We went around and aroud with them sayig theey had to investigate the problem! What?! I loved have the security of the ADT system. We had it in our old home before we moved! I was very secure when we were in the house and had the alarm on. I was comfortable leaving our home with the system armed and felt my home and household contents were safe. We had the system for more than 10 years and had no problems. A few battery replacements was all. They called every time we had a false alarm, which was usually our error. I loved the feature of the disarming the system but entering a trouble code. That made me feel extra secure. ADT kept my family safe and our house secure.
Monitoring for professionally installed systems tends to be more expensive. I was not home.  Then they called my cell phone and told me my alarm was going off.  I had just left my house 4 minutes before they called my cell phone, so I was able to let them know they did not need to call the police (they asked if they should send the police). ADT told me which door was open and I knew it was my fault.  I didn’t shut it properly.

“Was having a lot of trouble signing in on my Pulse account. Had to use it every time. Called and talked to 3 people about this problem. All they could tell me was to reboot my phone. I did so. On the 4th call I talked to a man and he told me that ‘When you did the last upgrade the this was a existing problem.’ Said that the company has known about this and was trying to fix it. Scout doesn’t have as many extra features as some other alarm systems, but if you currently have a Nest Learning Thermostat or a Nest Cam, you’ll love this new, modern take on home security. Scout offers the lowest monthly monitoring price we’ve seen for cellular monitoring at $9.99 a month, but keep in mind that it’s not connected to a professional monitoring center unless you upgrade to $19.99.
I have been with ADT since 2004. I work out of town and really like the peace of mind I get with ADT protecting my home. The only call I have had since 2004 was during a storm. It appeared that the storm set off the alarm. My only complaint is the monthly fees. There have been small increases in fees over the years, never more than one dollar. I received a letter that they are increasing the monthly fee by $3.00 next month. Are they upgrading my system? No. Has there been an increase in alarm activity on my system? No. I guess they need the increase to give an executive a pay raise. Well, they have raised their fees out of my house. I am now going to find another security firm that appreciates long term customers. Good bye ADT.
After the first year of service, ADT can increase the monitoring fee anytime and as frequently– as it wants. However, if you provide written notice of your objection to the price increase within 30 days or receipt of notice, ADT may either reconsider the adjustment or allow you to terminate the contract without paying cancellation fees. Changes in monitoring rates do happen, but they are not common and infrequent.
A good review post! I have been in this industry for many years and along with using many different companies so far (both at home and work) I've come back around to ADT. It's a long story but I got hosed when my small boutique moved and I was using a local security company that was charging me an arm and a leg to move and upgrade so I went back to ADT pulse after paying their cancellation fee and I'm able to use it at both my Home and Business with a discount too.
If you have a wired home security system, your control panel is hardwired into your home and connected to a landline. If a burglar cuts the telephone line, your system may not be able to connect to the monitoring station. A wireless security system is generally considered safer, since they can’t be physically cut by potential burglars. Wireless connections aren’t always foolproof, but many systems have algorithms built in to alert you and the monitoring center of any wireless signal interference.
ADT cameras do not pick up movement at night. I called ADT customer service and told the rep that thieves had broke into my car TWICE in the past five months. The ADT cameras are literally pointed directly at my car but there was absolutely no footage found by me or the police. The rep said that ADT cameras do not have night vision or infrared so the cameras cannot pickup movement at night. That is KEY INFORMATION that none of the ADT reps told me when they were so vigorously pushing there products and services. The SimpliSafe system requires a professional monitoring subscription to receive alerts. That’s because it relies on a cellular connection rather than internet, so someone needs to send you an SMS text. There’s no option to receive automatic in-app alerts. You’ll have to upgrade to the $25-per-month plan to save yourself the task of keeping a constant eye on the video feed. (That’s still $10 less than Frontpoint’s cheapest plan, though.)

Some of the best home security cameras are ones you can buy in addition to your larger system. Brands like Nest and Arlo offer high resolution cameras equipped with night vision and two-way communication. Most are affordable and easy to integrate with your system. Nest cameras, for example, are compatible with ADT and Vivint. Before purchasing a separate camera, make sure it pairs with your home security system.
If part of the appeal to DIY is the ability to cut corners and keep costs down, then Abode’s luxury may feel like a step in the wrong direction. At nearly triple the cost of Frontpoint, it’s basically the Bentley of DIY home security systems. That said, our exceptional experiences with the system made us fall in love with it, high price tag and all.
That said, if you choose to cancel after its 15-day trial period you will have to pay 100% of your three-year contract. But if you like Protect America’s service, this won’t affect you. While we haven’t had an opportunity to test Protect America’s equipment for ourselves yet, we’re impressed with its DIY installation, variety of affordable plans, and free equipment.
The initial consultation is your first visit from ADT, and it involves a service rep essentially touring your property, your home's interior, and questioning you about what you need and expect from your home security and automation system. The rep then makes recommendations on what equipment and service tier makes the most sense and sits down with you to go over every component and arrive at a final installation plan and price.
The ADT service has been very accommodating to my home and prompt service has been given when the alarm system has sounded.  ADT is a very valueable service to have for your safety.  The service technician, Chris was extremely knowledgeable and repaired my service in a very short period of time.  I would highly recommend the ADT service for safety in your home.  Thank you for your service.
One of the drawbacks of opting for GetSafe’s month-to-month contract is that you have to pay for equipment upfront. GetSafe’s one- and three-year contracts include the starter kit for free, and its three-year contract also includes a bonus hardware credit of $250. The starter kit costs $249 and, even though it’s less expensive than other providers’ equipment packages, it could be too pricey if you’re on a tight budget.

I love the pricing and information you've given on this company, but I'm a little worried about not getting new equipment after 3 years. I don't want to have to fight for new things every time my contract comes up. Does making a 'threat' to leave the company really work? I'd hate to change companies every three years to get new equipment. I'd love to hear what other customers have done. Thanks.


Amazing breakdown! I have been looking all over at different companies and they never tell you who does what better because they all want your business. I am sold on this company and am giving them a call now. To me, from what I read about other companies, they are my best option as I am on a budget and don't need massive protection (my home is small!!). Thanks for this information!

We live in an area with relatively low rates of home invasions and break ins so who is to say whether or not the ADT sign and stickers really discourage potential criminals. We’ve never had a window break or excessive heat, or even needed to connect with customer service so I can’t really say how they respond, or how accurate the system is, unfortunately.
When it comes to home security, ADT monitoring doesn’t sacrifice quality.
