I am extremely disappointed with my most recent encounter with an ADT technician by the name of John C. for starters I greeted him kindly and he completely ignored me as if I was speaking to someone else in the room . Upon him asking me what issues I was having with my system, he kept cutting me off stating we were using the system incorrectly, and raising his voice at me to the point he was practically yelling at me answering me in a scornful manner. For someone whose job consists of interacting with other people and in this case required going into people’s homes where they are supposed to be helping a person, his behavior was very rude and unacceptable. The equipment, security system and ADT Pulse has been great. Just had a rough start with the tech but I suppose not all of them are going to be like that, he could've been having a bad day.
The ADT Pulse control panel is an effort to compete with Vivint, which solely uses proprietary gear—a fact that has historically separated Vivint from the rest of the pack. While we find no problem with the standard equipment from most providers, we do like to see proprietary equipment designed with the whole system in mind, plus they look a bit more sleek. The ADT Pulse is definitely easy on the eyes compared to the standard panels, but is it any better?

I talked with a representative about a home security system. As we talked she asked me questions regarding number of windows/doors etc. She told me we would get window/doors sensors (never actually told me how many my mistake for not asking), also told me it wasn't a problem to include an extra key fob and the really great news was we were going to have all this "free" money to purchase anything else we wanted off the service truck. Salesman and installer arrive and we find out that extra key fob was coming out of our "free" money the representative never ever mentioned this fact.

i love the fact of having a security system for my family i dont like the fact i have to pay alot for things to be covered under the system every window door and camera is extra.i love having a keypad but the response is very slow i dont like having a gap if the alarm goes off to when they contact you they should be calling as soon as alarm goes off the customer service is great price is ok but they should offer better packages to secure house instead of everything extra
A few minutes into the DIY installation, our tester got stuck getting her control panel up and online — it just wouldn’t connect. A help window popped up with a number to call, and a Frontpoint rep helped her troubleshoot the connection. After about 10 minutes, he could tell there was an issue with the circuit board. Certainly not ideal — but the rep apologized and shipped her replacement control panel overnight.

Over ten years service and I upgraded to their new Pulse system. Because I've been a customer for so long they didn't put up a fight when I wanted a whole new wireless system. I was able to get it and have a few camera's, key remotes and things we have been missing out on for the past few years. ADT is the clear winner in my books, I hear horror stories of other companies jumping up the rate, going out of service or having 5 year agreements. You don't have to worry about any of this with the ol' White and Blue.
ADT called me in February to tell me to put new batteries in. I told them that my alam system did not work and that I wanted to cancel the service. They said that if they could troubleshoot it from the telephone, would I keep the system? I said yes, but if they couldn't, I wanted to cancel. They could not troubleshoot it. They continued to bill me, I did not pay, since I had verbally cancelled. Yesterday, October, I got a call from their collection agency, Source Receivables Management. They were very rude. I called ADT today to complain. They have all the record of my calls and that I wanted to cancel, etc., but now they're telling me it had to be done in writing. They didn't tell me that then. I went with ADT because they were a trusted name in the industry with businesses such as banks and other companies that need reliable monitored service. That was the most important thing to me and they have never let me down. I have been with them for over 15 years and the equipment has operated well. If I wanted to have them add additional services over the years, I know that there is an installation cost but it is well below that of a general contractor. And I am sure existing customers can self install if they know how. I have worked with customer service to do alarms tests and inquire about other things and have never had a problem. I have read many of the complaints on this site and many are a result of the home owner not doing their research or expecting free services. These companies have contracts to recoup the equipment costs. They need to pay an employee to do a truck roll for installations…every time. They are not a charity service. And I should note that in over 15 years my monthly fee has only gone up once. Not bad compared to some of the others. So again, I would rather use a company that the banking industry relies on because the most important thing to me is reliability in the event of a crisis. ADT has always been there 24/7.

The reason I got ADT was so that in case I needed to move out of state for my work (a possibility at the moment) I wouldn't have to pay a early termination fee for moving 'out of service area' as I've seen with other companies contracts. I believe I'll have to pay a $199 or so moving fee but that's better then cancelling and signing up with a new company once moved.

ADT uses security equipment by Honeywell, GE, and ITI. Warranty only comes if you buy a Quality Service Plan (QSP). With QSP, there is no extra charge to replace or fix faulty equipment in the first 90 days after the installation. After that, you receive free replacement parts and repairs only if you continue to pay for the QSP. Plus, any service trip costs about $25 depending on your location.


ADT is an excellent company with state of the art equipment, solid company financials, and courteous professional employees. As a retired law enforcement professional, former head of security for a major company, and now security consultant I have used ADT for over many years. Have there been some problems? Of course – complicated security systems always have some glitches. But the problems have been quickly and professionally resolved. ADT is a good company with a solid track record.

I have only good things to report about ADT: the installation was smooth and the engineer who installed it was very knowledgeable and gave me good tips about overall security. I love the features on the wireless system and thankfully nothing has happened, but I am definitely feeling safer after the system was installed. I just feel better knowing that the company that is monitoring our security is a market leader.
