After installation, if something goes wrong with your system, call customer care or chat online with an operator. If ADT can’t troubleshoot remotely, a technician will be sent within five days to service your system. There is a $25 service visit charge with the Quality Service Plan (QSP) or $150 for the first half hour if you’re not covered; it’s free within the first 90 days.
When looking at a smart home security system you’ll want to consider the included cameras, sensors, and alarms. Such considerations will depend on the size of your home and how much coverage you desire. There are window sensors, water leak sensors, those that detect smoke and carbon monoxide, and many more. Many systems will even include an audible alarm to deter intruders and alert anyone in the area to a break-in.
When I got divorced and moved into a new home with my two young boys my parents purchased me an ADT security system. I didn’t think it was necessary, but I’m so grateful now. I don’t have to worry about putting my kids to bed and thinking “what if”. ADT monitors all of those what ifs. In 2017, ADT settled five class action lawsuits that claimed wireless sensors used between November 13, 2009 and August 15, 2016 were vulnerable to hacking. Claimants asserted that hackers could access a security system and disable it through certain wireless sensors used in ADT residential security systems. The suits were centered on ADT’s failure to disclose this potential liability. ADT has denied any liability and maintains that the claims have no merit. Rather than continuing litigation, the company agreed to settle and establish a million settlement fund in order to avoid the ongoing expense and uncertainty. February 26, 2018 was the deadline to file a claim in the settlement.

ADT Pulse provides additional equipment and services to support advanced security functions as well as home automation. The control panel uses the Z-Wave platform for wireless communication with sensors and smart devices. ADT Pulse is also compatible with IFTTT (If This Then That) and integrates with Nest Learning Thermostat. The company also offers a Smart Voice Sounder that calls out “fire” or “intruder” based on what sensor has sounded the alarm, and temperature and flood sensors that can protect against water damage from burst pipes. Its ADT Pulse, Smart Home offerings include remote door locks, appliance control, and cameras.
He did an excellent job in checking for any issues, malfunctions or errors with the installation before he left. ADT is a great product for people that care to secure their home. Yes, it can be pricey for $129 per window sensor, but it’s worth protecting your family and belongings. They offer a lifetime warranty on anything. If a battery dies, they come out and replace it for free. If a sensor stops working they come out and replace it for free. I’m not sure what these other reviewers are experiencing, but we are extremely happy with ADT and Brian from Protect Your Home in Santa Clarita.
Pricing on Canopy, assuming they move forward with the idea, will depend on what service you choose. In general, it’s significantly less expensive than other ADT options. Through a hands-on experience at CES 2017, I learned that their Panic Response service will be the cheapest Canopy option starting at $10 per month with burglary monitoring starting at $24.99 per month.
Abode sells a lot of its own devices (which are competitively priced), but it also supports a slew of third-party Z-Wave and ZigBee devices, including all the home automation basics: smart lights, deadbolts, outlets, wall switches. Even though they tend to be more expensive than unmonitored systems, they do give you peace of mind. That’s because when your system is tripped, a signal will be sent to the company via your phone line, alerting them that there’s an intruder in your house. Within approximately 10 seconds you’ll receive a phone call from the security company (via the intercom system or your telephone), where you’ll be asked to verify who you are by using an authorization code. If you’re unable to do this, the police will be sent straight to your home.
We purchased our ADT Security System 12 years ago, and we have been very pleased with the professionalism and quick response in the few times we have had to use it. Their was a break-in in 2009 while we were out of town on vacation. They called us immediately and the people were caught running down our street thanks to the quick response from ADT and the Sheriff’s Department. Of course, our teenagers have set the alarm off a few times while we were at work, but ADT handled it for us and were completely understanding and professional! We are so Happy and feel so Secure whether we are at work or on vacation!
What makes the best home security system comes down to the experience that a home security company provides. A good company will show genuine interest in providing you with a solution that fits your needs. This means it won’t try to upsell you on unnecessary equipment, pressure you into spending beyond your budget, or hit you with hidden costs, policies, or other unwanted surprises after you’ve signed a contract. It should simply give you peace of mind.
So since the guy was already there i was friendly and greeted him but explained i had canceled and was no longer looking for security at the moment due to some issues. He stated he couldn't leave until his boss gave him permission. His boss(ADAM) was very rude and told him to just leave the security system on my counter and to leave and that i wasn't receiving a refund (YET I DIDN'T EVEN RECEIVE INSTALLATION NOR DID HE EVEN TAKE OUT THE SYSTEM OUT OF HIS CAR) When i told him(Adam) My husband was on deployment and wasn't moving in until January ADAM kept pushing it on me after telling him NO several times. He states he already had a cancellation and couldn't receive another cancellation for the day. THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. They instillation person was very nice but stayed at my house (inside) for 2 hours. I Had to speak to 4 different people just to cancel and have the tech person to leave. It was the worst experience of customer service i have EVER experienced. ADT does not care about you only their money. WILL NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!! SCAM
We had a burglar break our door walk straight to the register, took the square stand and register, returned inside of the store, hopped over the counter onto the employee side and looked for additional things, tried to open the register which was fixed to the bottom of the counter, went back to the car, looked into the trunk to fetch a tool, came back, hopped over the counter and took apart the cash drawer, and went back to the car, and came back once more. For a total of 4 entries and still no alarm was set off. He took a square stand ($100), iPad Air 1 16gb ($300+/-), cash drawer ($225), and cables to replace ($25), and to fix the door ($250).
If you get outdoor cameras installed with their Pulse system make sure you check that they are in the positions you want. My sons Mongoose bike got stolen and the camera's didn't capture it because they weren't positioned right (so we have nothing to present to the police dept.) Rookie mistake on our end, have adjusted things and next time bad guys swing around I'll get them.
When your kids grow up, you don’t stop worrying about them – OR your house. With remote access I can check to make sure the doors are locked, and even when she doesn’t pick up the phone, I can check on her, too! Because as any parent knows, your kids are far more valuable than your stuff, and peace of mind is at a premium when you’ve got teenagers!
November 6th 2018, I had the worst experience with a customer service manager who works for account management in Jacksonville, Florida. She was so nasty with me and spoke to me with so much attitude and no respect. She was not polite, nor did she mention her name when asked. I had to get her name from another representative the next day. I also asked her to read her notes so that she can familiarize herself with my situations and how many times I have been in contact with her department and she refused to do so. Porsha F abruptly hung up on me out of frustration and also sent me a bill for over 1000$ out of frustration and threatened to send me to the debt collection agency.
The SimpliSafe system requires a professional monitoring subscription to receive alerts. That’s because it relies on a cellular connection rather than internet, so someone needs to send you an SMS text. There’s no option to receive automatic in-app alerts. You’ll have to upgrade to the $25-per-month plan to save yourself the task of keeping a constant eye on the video feed. (That’s still $10 less than Frontpoint’s cheapest plan, though.)
Not specifically to do with the cameras, more the system it is attached to, but generally speaking you are only able to record a single 30s clip every 5 minutes. That’s a game-changer and should be enough to avoid ADT completely. I have a little “trick” in place which will allow me to record 1:30 (3 contiguous 30s clips) after motion is detected which is messy, but better that 30s.
The only major downside to Pulse is price and its three-year service contract. When compared with other players, like Vivint or Frontpoint, the pricing structure is similar in that there's an upfront installation cost you can pay all at once or spread across the first three months, and then a monthly cost for maintenance and monitoring. If you compare only prices published on the web, then ADT Pulse looks very competitive. But in practice, if you opt for the higher end of the tiering scale and a modified system with a bunch of devices that aren't included in a basic tier package (and ADT will steer you that way), your price will quickly balloon. In my case, I wound up with an excellent all-around solution, but an eyebrow-arching upfront cost of $3,276.79 and a monthly charge of $63.89, which makes Pulse the most expensive solution we've tested to date.
His name was Darwin (sp?) Lee. He came out to install video cameras at my art gallery in Guerneville. What an lazy, incompetent ass hole! Mr Lee drove all the way from the East Bay to Guerneville. He was supposed to call 30 minutes ahead of arrival but he didn't. When I asked Mr Lee why he did not call me ahead of arrival, Mr. Lee said he "did not know he was supposed to" LIE!
ADT is an international company with a number of different locations, making ADT a good choice if your family plans to move in the near future. Customers who have had a system for at least two years are eligible for a free security system when they move and given a discount off the total installation price. This is not great news for customers who need to move before the two year period.
