An outdoor camera is ideal for keeping an eye on what's happening outside of your home. These devices are weatherproof and typically require a nearby GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlet to supply power, although there are a handful of battery-powered models out there. As with their indoor counterparts, outdoor cameras connect to your Wi-Fi network and allow you to view live video from your phone. They are fairly easy to install, but if you're not familiar or comfortable with electrical wiring, you may want to have a professional electrician do the job.
ADT’s Control Package offers its basic coverage and more. It also starts with a $125 upfront equipment fee, but with a monthly monitoring fee of $36.99, it adds home automation, giving you more control over the features and systems within your home regardless of whether you’re on site. I've been pleased with their customer support for the 2 years I have had an ADT alarm system installed into my home. What I like is from the research I have done separate of this review, ADT has not raised their monthly price in years. I guess because it effects so many people nationwide if they do, it tends to be a stable price. Much better than going with a company who runs promotions and 6 months later you are paying double for what you initially agreed upon.
My wife has been wanting me to have a security system installed since we moved in. When this was announced about a year ago, I thought it was just the product to fit the bill. I've always been a DIY type of guy and I've been looking to introduce some home automation into the house and this coupled the SmartThings hub with the security system so I could knock out two birds with one stone. The ability to be monitored by ADT was also attractive. This is my first

Thanks to my ADT alarm system, my autistic son is thriving today… Being the parent of an autistic child is very challenging, specifically when his sleeping pattern is so off that we (the parents) are completely exhausted. I had my ADT system for a while and actually was planning on opting out of it. Because I had more “important things” to take care of. One day while at work, the person I left in charge of my child fell asleep, my 3 year old wanderer was actually about to open the door, and the alarm send me an alert as well as another to the police. I’d called home to make the sitter awarded of the situation. That alarm didn’t stop an stranger from entering, but stop my son from being harmed or taken… Thanks ADT….
Even though ADT offers home automation, it’s only included with the Premium Protection with Pulse package. This can be frustrating since home automation is a major selling point for most home security providers. The Premium Protection with Pulse package’s starting price is also pretty costly. And, on top of the monthly rate, you’ll have to purchase smart devices like locks, cameras and lights separately.
When the tech installed my service he installed the motion detector upside down. Yes, upside down. I didn’t even know I didn’t have service for the first two months because it was scanning my ceiling. I had to go online and look at diagrams to figure it out myself that it was facing the wrong direction! Then they had to send someone back out for them to install it correctly. Then 6 months later, the electric door panel they installed craps out. I call them, and they tell me I have to call the manufacturer to send the device and then call them so they can come install it. Basically, I had to reinstall it myself (took hours) or pay to have ADT install it again.
When it comes to deterring potential break-ins, brand recognition has significant value. In fact, a study from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology found that a security sign was more of a deterrent to burglars than outdoor lighting and a neighborhood watch. An ADT sign in your front yard is a good bet if you want to know you’re protected (and want other people to know it, too).
