ADT made some changes to the Pulse app in early 2018. While the UI seems to have gotten a little friendlier, which is always welcome, it temporarily removed one important feature that I missed: cloud storage for my camera view. The camera doesn't have a great track record of performance (see below), but when it worked, I liked having the 30-second clips of whatever video it took available for viewing through the Pulse app. That's been moved to an easily-missed "Clips" button, so be careful to examine the UI closely as new features come out or get deprecated. What you miss might not actually be gone.

I had someone enter my home when I was at work. ADT called me right away but the cops didn't show up in time. I called back to see what ADT recorded as to how quickly they called (to see if it was their fault or police) and they said they called dispatch after neither myself or my wife answered our phones. So regardless of how quick or slow ADT may be, it still is up to your local authorities to trust their word and come check out your house. A few things got shuffled around with but nothing of real value got stolen. Not fun knowing someone has been snooping around in our home and now I am adding some Pulse cameras to the system for better surveillance.
I do not understand how ADT has such a high rating on this website when a simple Google search shows terrible ratings across the board. This is why I chose to write my review on this website. An ADT rep came to my house when I purchased it, and promised me personal service, and we talked about all the places that would be wired, and old equipment that would be replaced. We also agreed that the price would be comparable to what I was paying in my old home. Fast forward, I move from my old home, ADT makes me close out the old contract, start a new contract at a higher price. The tech shows up, the sales rep is nowhere to be found and doesn’t answer his phone, THEY DON’T WIRE ANYTHING ON THE SECOND FLOOR STATING IT WILL COST EXTRA FOR EVERY ADDITIONAL WINDOW. Within 48 hours of them leaving, an alarm they installed on one of the exterior doors malfunctions and they don’t fix it for 5 more days. All this for the BASIC coverage at $44/month. I can’t say anything about any of the other services, but the second my contract is done I will be moving to another provider as ADT is a terrible crooked company.

At the end of the day, I believe that ADT wants to provide a good product and customer service, however, communication system is disjointed, broken and ineffective. The most disappointing thing is the fact that three different parties in different parts of their organization have gone completely cold in response to my attempts to determine how to fix my problem. I can only assume that they are completely incapable of addressing situations that are outside of the norm, especially when the issue is something that they should have informed me about before the equipment was installed. This is not only a disgrace from a customer service perspective, but completely insulting to a consumer who has a choice when selecting a home security service.

My upfront costs were high compared with the competition, and even if they'd come in at ADT's more average price of $1,100 to $1,500, I still would have choked a bit. But as you'll see below, mine is a fairly decked out example of an ADT installation. While I wasn't thrilled about the very expensive startup charge, the monthly dues seem reasonable considering what was installed. And while my addition of the Quality Service Plan cost me another $11 per month, I felt that was worth it since it covers parts and labor on any devices that need fixing; and besides, I received a $7 and change monthly discount because I'm a State Farm customer, a discount that'll apply to you, too, if you use not just State Farm, but also USAA, MetLife, Chubb, and several other insurance providers. That brought me down to just under $64 per month, which I feel is worth it.

I just called in to upgrade to Pulse and it took alittle bit of figuring out with the customer support but I got it and I only have to pay another 1 time fee for the technician to come and replace my panel and add some new equipment. I'm really excited for it and their cameras are top notch from the research and comparison I have done.
When I lived at home with my mother we had the ADT system and never had a problem, no break-ins, and no potential break-ins either. Unfortunately, I did not follow suit and get the system when I moved out on my own and my apartment was burglarized this past year. I feel like if I would have had the system there is NO WAY my apartment would have been broken in to. These systems really do thwart robbers from entering.

When your house will be empty, you can arm the system in "Away Armed" mode for maximum protection and coverage. When you're at home or sleeping, you can arm the system in "Home Armed" mode. This will keep the perimeter secure (doors and windows armed) while allowing you to get up, and move around inside the house (motion detectors disarmed). Getting a late night snack won't wake up the whole house!
Hi Tonya - alarm equipment really lasts longer than three years! It really hasn't come too far in technology since it went from wired security systems to wireless. In the 14 years since its been little things like key remote, touch screens etc but you really don't need to replace a alarm system every three years! (Or at least I dont). I'm sure if you call them they will work something out for you but basically is sounds like if you don't ask for it after contract is up they aren't going to be the ones to remind you you need new equipment. Just like any other monthly company (phones, Internet, TV) if you are paying with no questions asked they will just enjoy having a steady payment coming in. My family had ADT quite a few years back. I remember setting off the alarm on more than one occasion. First came a phone call asking for the password. As long as you could provide the password, ADT figured you belonged there. But don’t answer the phone or not remember the password, and the cops would be there in minutes. I’m not sure if someone was trying to kill me, the cops would get there fast enough, but they would probably catch a burglar. I would love to have them now, but the service is just too expensive for us.

Furthermore, it is interesting that the burglar was bold enough to target our house despite all the ADT signs we have posted all over and not to mention a very blatant camera in our driveway!!!!  Hmmmm.. Is this an inside job?  Did the tech who installed our cameras intentionally NOT setup the automation/alert features?  Does ADT run background checks on their staff???
I work for a company that uses ADT in our office for security. We had trouble with a couple sensors for which an ADT tech came to fix. Whatever he did completely messed up the system. We were without an alarm system for over a week because they didn’t have any techs that could come till then. Why do they not treat this as a necessity much like someone that is on 24/7 to fix your furnace if it goes out in the winter. They didn’t care that the office was with out security for over a week. As far as I’m concerned a security company that doesn’t care if you don’t have security is useless. ADT is useless. I’m looking in to Frontpoint to replace ADT in our company. My warning to those seeking ADT for your home. If they don’t care about a business they aren’t going to care about your home.
My bill was paid in full till the end of Sept. 2018. I called and canceled service on Sept 20, 2018 after sale of the house. Received a bill in Oct 2018 for $18.49. No detail on the bill only explanation after speaking to Scott is a charge incurred that happens because it takes a month to complete the cancellation process and that is wrote in the contract but I did not remember that being mentioned at the time service was started more than 3 yrs earlier. I was never late with a payment and there was never an alarm. So basically a person would be very wise to set up a DIY service and save a lot of money and getting taken advantage of.

If you’re renting or leasing, it may make a difference in whether you want a wireless setup or not. Wireless systems don’t require drilling, which your property owner may appreciate. But if you do end up needing to drilling, here’s a fun fact: in most cases you need only verbal permission from your landlord, so you won’t have to come up with a written agreement or anything like that.
The technician explained that ADT’s broadband systems have trouble connecting to Suddenlink routers, which our tester had, so he tried a different kind of command hub. After he left, our tester noticed he was charged $190 more than his original quote. The new equipment was significantly more expensive because it worked on cellular signals instead of Wi-Fi. We wish we had known about that extra charge upfront.
I went with ADT because they were a trusted name in the industry with businesses such as banks and other companies that need reliable monitored service. That was the most important thing to me and they have never let me down. I have been with them for over 15 years and the equipment has operated well. If I wanted to have them add additional services over the years, I know that there is an installation cost but it is well below that of a general contractor. And I am sure existing customers can self install if they know how. I have worked with customer service to do alarms tests and inquire about other things and have never had a problem. I have read many of the complaints on this site and many are a result of the home owner not doing their research or expecting free services. These companies have contracts to recoup the equipment costs. They need to pay an employee to do a truck roll for installations…every time. They are not a charity service. And I should note that in over 15 years my monthly fee has only gone up once. Not bad compared to some of the others. So again, I would rather use a company that the banking industry relies on because the most important thing to me is reliability in the event of a crisis. ADT has always been there 24/7.
The Canopy Mobile Panic service will work differently with different products. If you pair the service with a Ring Doorbell, you will still be responsible for monitoring the device, but will have ADT’s support. For example, let’s say someone rings your Ring. You check out the event, you don’t like what you see, you press the panic button, and ADT will call the police on your behalf. If you connect the Panic Response Service to your Samsung Gear S Smartwatch, you can use the watch app to press a panic button at any time to be connected to the ADT monitoring center.

We’ve had the ADT system for over 3 months now.  No problems at all.  Last week my “big alarm” went off.  I didn’t shut my door leading to the garage tight enough (a problem I have with that door if I don’t deadbolt it) and after I left the house, the “big alarm,” as I call it, went off.  ADT called my house. I was not home.  Then they called my cell phone and told me my alarm was going off.  I had just left my house 4 minutes before they called my cell phone, so I was able to let them know they did not need to call the police (they asked if they should send the police). ADT told me which door was open and I knew it was my fault.  I didn’t shut it properly.
My rating is 8.5/10. I have been with them for over 5 years and just renewed my contract to get a couple of their security cameras. They've always called me each time my alarm goes off which is good for me as I am both a Mother and work a full time job. I'm loving these new mobile controls and being able to see what's going on in my home from work within the Pulse app.

I have been an ADT customer for 15 years and 2 weeks ago I found out my alarm was not communicating with them so I called for repair. They told me nothing was available for 2 weeks so I set a date and was told someone had to be home from noon until 5PM. Appointment day at 4:14PM I call them and ask where the tech is. They have no clue and tell me they will reschedule for another 2 weeks out. I tell them to cancel my service and then they tell me I WILL OWE THEM FOR 30 MORE DAYS OF MONITORING after shut off. It doesn’t work – they fail to honor the appointment they set up and they want me to pay for 30 more days? Of course there is no supervisor available to talk to me but they could have one call me back in 24 to 48 hours. What an unethical unresponsive company. Never do business with them.
