We recently had an ADT security system installed in our home and I have had few problems with this company and their rates are great!! My daughter has Vivint at her house and she pays around $30 more a month. I like that Vivint has security cameras and that you can look in your house and adjust temps in your house right on your phone, but I still love my system. What I do not like however is the practices used in my town to get customers to switch from ADT to Vivint.
After the pricing ding, there's the service contract. Competitors, like SimpliSafe, have no contract and let you out of your service whenever you want. ADT signs you to a three-year contract. If you were to move during your contract period, but opt to keep the service, ADT would install a basic system at your new home for $249 and let you add components at a 25 percent discount until you hit $750 worth of hardware. After that, you'd pay full price for additional hardware. You could attempt to uninstall some of the components at your old home and move them to your new one and ADT would incorporate those, but whatever is left in the old house after you leave, ADT will simply try to resell to the next owner.

All in all, it's hard to go wrong with the trusted blue and white. Competitors still lack the brand name and good reputation that ADT has built over the past century. Being able to move anywhere in the USA and not pay a cancellation fee is a big plus. Great equipment, and a company that still installs the security system, they are our top recommendation for the average of a homeowner.

Heads up -- if you use ADT monitoring services through your landline, if your landline is cut or goes down they are no longer able to monitor it. Use wireless / cell phone towers when you sign up!! I learned this the hardway, after a storm cut out our landline I thought I was still secure but I wasn't and lost a lot of belongings. I suppose it's time to upgrade from landlines anyways by now but I was still paying a cheaper monthly fee for it so I hadn't upgraded.

There were some break-ins in my area so I got the alarm system from ADT. The rep (who installed the system) disucced my concerns with me and (in addition to their system), he suggested I get a dog.I got a very large and vicious looking german sheppard (who is actually a sweetheart…) and the combination of both the alarm and wolf have given me a sense of safety. It works!
During our tests, we strongly considered home automation options, which allow you to remotely control features of your home, such as lights and door locks. Vivint really impressed us with its seamless automation integration. We loved being able to see who was at the front door directly from the app. But we wanted to figure out what these differences meant on a day-to-day basis: Which features were necessary for improved peace of mind? Which would be easiest to integrate into our daily routines?
We have been ADT customers, since ADT took over Broadview/Brinks. Today March 27th 2014, we had our 15y old system upgraded. Our field technician and ADT employee named xxxxxxx gave us outstanding service today. He was professional and knowledgeable, patient with my questions. His answers were complete and at a level that I could understand. We have not always been as fortunate to have such a high level of service, with the company we had before ADT. It is a refreshing experience to encounter someone who is interested in good customer service and makes certain the job is completed correctly before he leaves. You need to “clone” this individual! He is an exceptional example of the type of employee that gives superior ROI to the company he works for.
This company sucks! They insisted that I needed an ugrade to my monitoring to wireless. They sent out a rep that changed my system to wireless. Well the sensor in my bedroom kept signaling that there was break in. The police came out 3 times, where I was charged for 3 false alarms. I called ADT to complain, they said that I had to pay for the false alarms and show them proof of payment to be reimbursed. ADT’s security system provided peace of mind when I was a single parent with my two daughters. I could go to bed at night and feel that we were all very safe and well protected. The sense of security allowed me to rest each night knowing we were all protected. One of the best things in using ADT was that I never had a “false alarm” while using their services. I had heard of other services that would often give false alarms frightening everyone in the house. This never happened with ADT. When someone in the house would forget to unset the alarm and open the front door making the alarm sound, I always received a call promptly to make sure everything was okay. I was always asked for our password, also. When the responder was satisfied that all was well in my home, they never acted as if they were irritated with my own error. ADT provided great service. I am currently moving into a new home within the next two weeks and have chosen ADT again to use for my protection services.
I have been an ADT client for a long time. At the point when my mom turned out to be sick and expected to remain home more often, I began to look into upgrading my system for one with video and ability for her to see who was at our door. After many research I found that plan require me to either include their TV products or services. Change I was not interested in making. So I upgrade with ADT, and our needs were met. Pricing on Canopy, assuming they move forward with the idea, will depend on what service you choose. In general, it’s significantly less expensive than other ADT options. Through a hands-on experience at CES 2017, I learned that their Panic Response service will be the cheapest Canopy option starting at $10 per month with burglary monitoring starting at $24.99 per month.
SimpliSafe does take a much more basic approach to security than the rest of our top five. You aren’t going to get as many bells and whistles with a SimpliSafe system. In fact, it doesn’t even use a control panel like other alarm systems. Instead, you get a central hub and tactile keypad. It’s a little old-school, but SimpliSafe is more of a function-over-fashion kind of system anyway, and it helps keep prices low.
