ADT has four monitored security packages to choose from: basic, basic wireless, ADT Pulse, and ADT Pulse + Video. Their monthly fees are on the high side, from $36.99 to $58.99. They require a 36-month minimum contract. Additionally, in the event of early contract termination, ADT may ask the client to pay 70% of the monthly charges due for the balance of the first 36-months. They do offer a 6-month money back guarantee and a 90-day limited warranty for their products, but all in all a rather stringent pricing and contract policy.
After the first year of service, ADT can increase the monitoring fee anytime and as frequently– as it wants. However, if you provide written notice of your objection to the price increase within 30 days or receipt of notice, ADT may either reconsider the adjustment or allow you to terminate the contract without paying cancellation fees. Changes in monitoring rates do happen, but they are not common and infrequent.
I have been with ADT going on 11 years. I had the system installed because of a psycho next door neighbor (they have since moved – thank God) and this system has been my life saver not to mention my peace of mind. Unbiased – I am completely happy with them. Their response time is excellent and their customer service has always been prompt with helping me with billing questions, referrals or upgrades to my current system.
We have had ADT since 2011 since buying a new home. In the last 5 years we have had a few incidents. The phone rang immediately when the alarm went off. They were very quick to handle the situation & their customer service has always been excellent. There is no comparison to other home security monitoring services. I feel much safer knowing I always have 24 hour protection in my home.

Many times agreed to visit me, let’s say Wednesday morning so I decided to stay and wait just to receive a call that afternoon to reschedule. Can you believe it? Not even explaining/apologizing first. During the 4 years happened at least 3 times. Sensors falling to the floor and activating the alarm causing the cops to come to finally find out that the sensor simply fell from the double face tape it was holding it. Yes, double face tape. Also, if you move in the middle of the 3 years contract, you are not allowed to continue the agreement at the new address. You need to start 3 years again or pay the whole remaining months. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND ADT.
Furthermore, it is interesting that the burglar was bold enough to target our house despite all the ADT signs we have posted all over and not to mention a very blatant camera in our driveway!!!! Hmmmm.. Is this an inside job? Did the tech who installed our cameras intentionally NOT setup the automation/alert features? Does ADT run background checks on their staff???
J comes in and starts looking around and does his ultimate security evaluation which would cover every window door and crack in my house against burglars. $5,000 to cover all of that. I said no and he went down the list to cover just the downstairs, then the back of the downstairs, then just the doors. This was the second issue of his high pressure sales tactics “I’m not trying to scare you, but…” That’s exactly what it felt like he was trying to do.
We originally used ADT in a former home, and eventually switched to a different provider after a false alarm occurred while we were out of the country. Upon our return, ADT technicians were never able to determine the root cause of the issue. The new provider that we used wasn’t perfect either, but I felt that their customer service and the technology were far better than our collective experience with ADT.

Overall, I'm very happy with the ADT Pulse system. I definitely experienced some sticker shock at the initial setup cost, but considering the level of service and all the equipment installed, the price is justified, and on a monthly basis, not that much higher than most of the competition. The three-year service contract definitely lags behind our other Editors' Choice winner, Vivint, but it's not a big heartache if you know you're not going to leave your current residence and completely opt out of the ADT service inside of three years.

The Safewatch Pro 3000en control panels can act as your system's central nervous system, but if you're anything like me, you'll quickly wind up using the Pulse mobile app for that. Still, the control panel is a sophisticated piece of equipment. It supports a series of arm and disarm codes for Away, Stay, Night-Stay, and Disarmed, with additional modes available if you work with the ADT technician. It has direct Police and Fire buttons, meaning even if there isn't an alarm going off, pressing one of these buttons will connect you to an ADT call center and the operator will immediately dispatch the emergency service. There's a Chime mode that alerts people in the home if external doors are opened. You get one of these at the Control pricing tier and two at the Video pricing tier, but, again, you're not really limited by those numbers. You can add more if your home needs them.
At the end of the install, he goes to test the signal…it cuts in an out (it was cellular). Two hours later at 8:00, he still can’t get a continuous signal. He tells me he’ll have to come back tomorrow with an antenna to put in the CLOSET (please explain how this makes sense) to get better signal. This means more holes in my walls and another tech in my house and another afternoon of mine wasted watching these guys use their tools. Fourth problem I had.
We recommend you get a good idea of what features and packages you want before calling to purchase, but be open to the advice from the sales rep. Our Frontpoint tester called on two separate occasions. The first time, she had a good idea of what she wanted system-wise but said she was still shopping around for a provider. The second time, she pretended to be an easy sell who just wanted a system but hadn’t done any research.

We had Adt and then after awhile shut it off. We recently made the decision to turn our services back on and they were amazing! The Adt crew came out to the house and updated our entire system, upgrading our keypad and walking each family member through their own pass code. They made sure we knew how to use their services to the best of our ability. We even got a remote!

We previously had ADT and having this service provided us with a great peace of mind. We moved into a rental property approximately three years and now have no home security provider. We plan on purchasing this home and I can tell you the first thing we are going to purchase is ADT again. The only reason I gave this review a 4 star instead of 5, is because of the delay in response time when we do not respond. The Home Security Provider first calls us to confirm then calls police. By the time the police receive the alarm there is several minutes in delay. If help were needed right away, I believe it could be a little bit of a downfall – however, overall I know that my home is protected and even with a few minute delay – know that help would be on the way.

The actual alarm system works well. The alarm is a good volume such that it will wake you up but won’t leave your ears ringing. It is fairly easy to learn how to use and operate. However, if the alarm does go off and is not cancelled, the phone operators that call rarely follow the protocol they are supposed to They are supposed to verify your identity and use a passcode to ensure you are not being held under duress, and this was rarely done. Sometimes there was a very long time gap between the alarm going off and getting a phone call to check on our safety. Overall, the system is great if you are home in the house and want alarms for your own alert, but don’t rely on the phone operators to help in a true emergency.
The customer rep offered me to re-schedule another appointment and I said I don’t think so, do you want to reschedule another time to waste my entire morning and get upset. I have never had a problem so far with our alarm system, but dealing with this kind of poor business, especially for a new or additional business from a customer did not seem to be their priority.
Depending on your needs you can go with a system that you monitor yourself, or pay a subscription fee to have your home surveilled 24/7 by professionals who will contact your local fire and police departments when alarms are triggered. You can even take advantage of on-demand monitoring services for when you're away on vacation. Of course, the more coverage you have, the more you can expect to pay.
ADT has been the only home security service I've ever seen my family use when I was growing up and now I've installed it in my own home! It's just the perfect home security because it got you covered in 150 places without stress. Their packages are great and the support is always there to clear any confusion so you don't regret any choice. Maybe I'm just lazy and don't care to do further research but it's always worked for me. I don't think they could be a scam if they have 7+ million paying customers.
I've been pleased with their customer support for the 2 years I have had an ADT alarm system installed into my home. What I like is from the research I have done separate of this review, ADT has not raised their monthly price in years. I guess because it effects so many people nationwide if they do, it tends to be a stable price. Much better than going with a company who runs promotions and 6 months later you are paying double for what you initially agreed upon.

The Federal Trade Commission charged ADT with misrepresented paid endorsements from safety and technology experts and the company is now prohibited from misrepresenting paid endorsements as independent reviews in the future. A group of ADT customers filed a federal class action suit aimed at the company’s early termination penalties and increased monitoring fees. Another suit claims ADT knows its wireless systems are easily hacked and engages in ”deceptive and misleading marketing statements.”Additionally, some ADT dealers have sued corporate claiming breached of contracts when dealers were informed in August 2002 that ADT was limiting the number of qualified accounts it would purchase.
One of the main reasons SimpliSafe took first place is that while you don’t have to sign up for professional monitoring, you have the option if you want it. There aren’t any contracts, so you can turn on the alarm monitoring for one month if you’ll be going on a long vacation and turn it back off when you get back. We’ve had the ADT system for over 3 months now. No problems at all. Last week my “big alarm” went off. I didn’t shut my door leading to the garage tight enough (a problem I have with that door if I don’t deadbolt it) and after I left the house, the “big alarm,” as I call it, went off. ADT called my house. I was not home. Then they called my cell phone and told me my alarm was going off. I had just left my house 4 minutes before they called my cell phone, so I was able to let them know they did not need to call the police (they asked if they should send the police). ADT told me which door was open and I knew it was my fault. I didn’t shut it properly.
The camera's auto-record function is based on motion sensors tuned to ignore small animals. The cam will record a 30-second video clip, then pause for four minutes before it records again. Auto-recorded clips are stored in ADT's Pulse cloud and can be accessed via the Pulse app. The camera operates at 720p resolution and you can record either a manual video or a still snapshot using the Pulse mobile app. All video clips, your own or the ones the camera takes automatically, are stored in ADT's cloud for 30 days. If you want to download anything to save long-term, it's doable, but only using the ADT web portal, not the mobile app. All this functionality comes with your Pulse service contract, none of it costs extra. If you get outdoor cameras installed with their Pulse system make sure you check that they are in the positions you want. My sons Mongoose bike got stolen and the camera's didn't capture it because they weren't positioned right (so we have nothing to present to the police dept.) Rookie mistake on our end, have adjusted things and next time bad guys swing around I'll get them.
There were some break-ins in my area so I got the alarm system from ADT. The rep (who installed the system) disucced my concerns with me and (in addition to their system), he suggested I get a dog.I got a very large and vicious looking german sheppard (who is actually a sweetheart…) and the combination of both the alarm and wolf have given me a sense of safety. It works!
Have you ever forgotten whether you locked the front door or not? It’s not a big deal when you have the app because you can get automated locks, too. Rather than driving down the road, realizing you’re not 100% sure you locked it, and driving back after that “oh shoot!” moment, you just turn on the app and select the door you want to lock—saving you the time and the trip.
The technician explained that ADT’s broadband systems have trouble connecting to Suddenlink routers, which our tester had, so he tried a different kind of command hub. After he left, our tester noticed he was charged $190 more than his original quote. The new equipment was significantly more expensive because it worked on cellular signals instead of Wi-Fi. We wish we had known about that extra charge upfront.
Updated on 11/21/2018: I wanted to follow up regarding the resolution to my situation. Turns out there is no resolution. I called, emailed and called again the CEO's office and they didn't can would not answer my questions. Hung up on me. Their so called Corporate Relations Manager, is a joke, she needs a back to basics training in customer service. They know they are wrong that is why they will not comment on my review. If you look at other 1 star reviews put on here after mine, you will see their response to say sorry to the customer, but mine? They won't even bother. They know I am telling the truth. Since they want to go ahead and blacklist me and remove services, that's fine. I will gladly take my money elsewhere; but they couldn't answer the one question I had for them that they are trying to use as their defense. Where does it say in the contract that they can cancel at any time and for any reason? Nowhere! Read the fine print.
