We have had our ADT system for a month now. I researched two companies prior to choosing ADT: Vector and ADT. Vector pushed the leased systems and didn’t want to do window contacts (just glass break and motion sensors). ADT would sell me the system (I would own it) and would do door contacts, window contacts, glass break and a motion sensor. Since I knew the ADT name and liked the fact that they would do the window contacts, I chose to go with ADT. (Same prices from both companies.)
At the end of the install, he goes to test the signal…it cuts in an out (it was cellular). Two hours later at 8:00, he still can’t get a continuous signal. He tells me he’ll have to come back tomorrow with an antenna to put in the CLOSET (please explain how this makes sense) to get better signal. This means more holes in my walls and another tech in my house and another afternoon of mine wasted watching these guys use their tools. Fourth problem I had.
ADT backs their self-branded devices with third-party devices. For starters, Pulse is compatible with the Ring Video Doorbell. Customers can self-install or have their doorbell professionally installed. Of course, the integration works both ways. In addition to controlling your Ring doorbell through ADT Pulse, you can control ADT Pulse through the Ring app.
The agent lied to me when I specifically asked upfront about termination policies. She said I could cancel the policy anytime and didn’t reveal termination fee. They can lie anything to rip a big chunk of money off you. Each time you call customer service or loyalty department, you get different answers and they never get back to you when you leave a message. I have had many services as I frequently move to different states, this is the worst available out there.
Vivint also recently partnered with Google to offer Google Assistant voice control to customers with smart tech. Every new smart home system includes two Google Home Minis. This means that customers can adjust the smart thermostat, lock doors, and arm the system via voice commands. Using a Google Home Mini as the smart hub in your home also ensures that even non-Vivint smart devices are manageable on a single platform.
Wireless security cameras: These security cameras are perfect for both outdoor and indoor use. They possess great night vision with infrared and is Wi-Fi enabled. They make use of WPA2 Wi-Fi encryption hence providing for secure transmission of your video feeds. They record videos to the cloud which is remotely accessible from any internet available areas. Dome shaped security cameras.
We had Adt and then after awhile shut it off. We recently made the decision to turn our services back on and they were amazing! The Adt crew came out to the house and updated our entire system, upgrading our keypad and walking each family member through their own pass code. They made sure we knew how to use their services to the best of our ability. We even got a remote!
ADT is one of the leading electronic security system suppliers in the United States as well as worldwide. Consumers review the company positively for its security systems, money back and theft protection guarantee and responsiveness. The website features exclusive offers for a home security package and offers considerable savings to new and existing customers who require installation on moving.
When we purchased our system it was for peace of mind for our home. Never would we have thought that it would be what saves our daughter. Thanks to ADT when her ex-boyfriend came through the front door they alerted the police of the intruder alert and just almost a mins after police showed and he was found trying to kidnapp my daughter. The quick response of alerting the police is what makes me stay and will forever be a ADT customer. Forever grateful.
Horrendous! I would give ZERO stars if I could. ADT failed to do the one thing they were supposed to do!!! ADT sold me on safety and piece of mind yet ADT failed to properly setup the automation and alert settings on my ADT pulse. Today we were burglarized and because of ADT's egregious FAILURE, our cameras did not record the incident and we could not show any footage to the police officer. The burglar just walked away completely off the hook, even with us having 3 cameras plus a RING doorbell/cam. ADT YOU FAILED TO PROTECT OUR HOME!!!!
Abode sells a lot of its own devices (which are competitively priced), but it also supports a slew of third-party Z-Wave and ZigBee devices, including all the home automation basics: smart lights, deadbolts, outlets, wall switches. Whether you want to deck out your smart home with convenient automation or fortify it with access sensors and flood detectors, a third-party compatible security system gives you freedom to customize.
Obviously I am not alone with my red flag warning yelp review. ADT is the most known, that is why I was hellbent in getting them, but I wish I read all the reviews before. I accidentally tried to sign up with a 3rd party Protecters or Defenders, the "authorized ADT salespeople", are the sleaziest, pushy salespeople that took me hostage, almost threatening me that if I didn't sign up immediately, I couldn't ever go back to ADT. But because I did sign up with them, I could not sign up with a REAL ADT salesperson, that completely contradicted everything the ADT authorized salesperson said. An ADT salesperson said they always get complaints on the 3rd parties, because of the bait and switch, and yet you can NEVER get a REAL ADT person to quote you without taking your blood type and personal information and credit card. So I called their competitors and ALL of them were a better experience, you feel you can trust them and they want to do a good job, not just get your credit card and sign you up for a hostage contract. Although I canceled with the 3rd party, I still couldn't go with ADT, which was a blessing because I found ACS security which is far far far better, not pushy, quoted me everything, and they work directly with ASC. Don't ever go with ADT, read all the reviews. Maybe ADT will improve if they read their reviews on them. Shame on them.
Because ADT uses individual retailers to sell its equipment and services, you never know exactly what your control panel (and other equipment) is going to look like until the installer knocks on your door. That means that if you like the ADT system at your brother’s house, there’s no guarantee that yours will look the same. This doesn’t impact how well an ADT security system protects your home, but it can be a bummer if you were expecting a particular panel and got something different.
You're bang on there, Ann. In times when the economy is not in the pink of its health, the incidents of burglaries and thefts have shoot up considerably in the country. I think people should start taking home security seriously and stop thinking that the chances of thieves breaking into their homes is negligible and as early as possible, should go with a good security company like ADT or Protect America, and secure their homes and future.
I am very upset with my ADT experience and contract. Your sales rep Daehan J gave me inadequate information regarding your ADT service and contract. I was very upfront and concerned about switching from Safenet to ADT because I was planning on moving the following year. He ASSURED me that the move of equipment, install and monitoring fees would not incur additional charges! He also did NOT disclose that there was a 36 month contract or an early termination fee. If I was properly informed of incurring additional charges for my move, I would NOT have switched security companies as my contract with Safenet was complete. In order for me to set up a new security monitoring system at my new place of residence, I received an estimate for $461. I discussed with Brad B, another sales rep of ADT corporate and he did help bring down the price but not after over 3 hours of 6 different customer services representatives. I am not pleased with your company nor ADT. Even though Daehan was working for an “authorized ADT dealer”, he is still representing the ADT BRAND.
False alarms are more than a nuisance to you and your neighbors, they’re a major resources drain on local protection agencies. Estimates for home security false alarm rates range from 98 percent to 99.8 percent. The most effective way to prevent false alarms is something DIY home security in its purest sense performs by definition — personally verify all home security alerts by video footage before dispatching help. This has two positive effects: You help reduce the false alarm rate and you are more likely to receive prompt help from first responders with evidence.
Use to have the system at my other house. A few times I forgot the code or put it in wrong and I received a phone call. If you give them a secret code then they will call off the police for you. May be they should have 2 secret codes one for when you are in danger (like maybe if there is a person standing beside you with a gun forcing you give the correct code) and one for when you are not in danger.
ADT uses security equipment by Honeywell, GE, and ITI. Warranty only comes if you buy a Quality Service Plan (QSP). With QSP, there is no extra charge to replace or fix faulty equipment in the first 90 days after the installation. After that, you receive free replacement parts and repairs only if you continue to pay for the QSP. Plus, any service trip costs about $25 depending on your location.
ADT has four monitored security packages to choose from: basic, basic wireless, ADT Pulse, and ADT Pulse + Video. Their monthly fees are on the high side, from $36.99 to $58.99. They require a 36-month minimum contract. Additionally, in the event of early contract termination, ADT may ask the client to pay 70% of the monthly charges due for the balance of the first 36-months. They do offer a 6-month money back guarantee and a 90-day limited warranty for their products, but all in all a rather stringent pricing and contract policy.

Think of the Basic packages as “monitoring + alarms and sensors” and the Pulse packages as “monitoring + alarms and sensors + home automation.” These ADT monitoring packages range in cost from $27.99 through $58.99 per month; you can add additional equipment and service so everything is customizable to your home. To put that in perspective, ADT costs less than most cable TV packages while potentially saving hundreds, if not thousands, in damages.
Regardless of if you choose a month-to-month professional monitoring plan or opt to self-monitor your home, SimpliSafe requires you to purchase its equipment upfront. Though it’s less expensive than our other picks, packages start at a couple hundred dollars and go up from there. On the plus side, purchasing your equipment upfront does give you the flexibility to move or cancel your system at any time.
Home automation refers to anything that you can control indirectly, either by remote control, mobile app, or IFTTT automation. (“If This, Then That” is a formulaic programming approach, i.e. “if I open my garage door, then turn on my living room lights and set my thermostat to 72 degrees.”) While some of this can seem a little convoluted or overboard with custom options, most operations are simple to set up.
ADT Motion Sensor Protection embeds advanced safety methods into your home security system. From infrared to magnetic technologies, you can ensure your home security system is working around the clock. These wireless devices transmit signals to the control panel via radio waves, helping provide an extra layer of protection ensuring there are no wires for an intruder to cut. Motion sensor systems are battery-operated with strategic alerts to signal the control panel when running low.
An outdoor camera is ideal for keeping an eye on what's happening outside of your home. These devices are weatherproof and typically require a nearby GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlet to supply power, although there are a handful of battery-powered models out there. As with their indoor counterparts, outdoor cameras connect to your Wi-Fi network and allow you to view live video from your phone. They are fairly easy to install, but if you're not familiar or comfortable with electrical wiring, you may want to have a professional electrician do the job.

I know that ADT is one of the best companies out there but I swear it has gone to their heads. I had used their service in the late 90's before losing my first home. Years later, I come back to them after being a customer with them for 9 years and they treated me like crap. The man I spoke to on the phone kept cutting me off when I was trying to ask questions, and long story short I over paid for something I didn't even want because the rep failed to listen to me. Could just be a rep issue??
DIY monitoring or self-monitoring means that when a sensor is tripped, it’s your responsibility to gauge the alert’s importance and contact the authorities. This could be potentially dangerous if you sleep through an alert that turns out to be a serious threat, but it’s generally less expensive than professional monitoring. Some home security companies like SimpliSafe offer both professional and DIY monitoring plans. If you’re interested in DIY home security, check out our favorite DIY home security systems.
First, you can choose a dual-element sensor that can tell the difference between a pet (weighing up to 100 pounds) and a human. This requires two beams to be triggered at the same time in order to sound the alarm, which is difficult for your pet to do unless you have more than one and they’re prone to fighting or playing. Alternatively, you could choose to place beams high enough above the floor so as to avoid detecting your pets – creating “pet alleys.”
The story: Founded in 1874 by Edward Calahan. They started out as a messenger/alarm service but quickly added fire and local authorities. In 1909, they were purchased by AT&T (a name you surely recognize). Shortly thereafter, AT&T sold ADT again. Fast forward some years to 1969 and ADT went public. In 1984, the were renamed and ten years later passed their one-millionth customer. In 1997, Tyco International Ltd. bought them out and since then they have acquired dozens of Ma & Pa security companies as well as big ones such as Brinks and Broadview Security.
We have had ADT for 3 years & have never had any problems. We have recommended it to friends & they have had it installed & have had no problems either. Last year a Vivint salesman came to our door & my husband invited him in. I was not home so my husband spoke with him. The Vivint salesman put his feet on our coffee table while trying to talk my husband into cancelling our contract with ADT. Very unprofessional! We definitely will stay with ADT.
So glad I read your review because I have been going back and forth what cameras should I get. Really didn’t want an adt camera because my contract start all over again locked in for 36 months again and what if I didn’t like the cameras then I just stuck with it or pay a very high break contract fee. I think I will try some stand alone security cameras for now.
For those shopping for home security systems, you can get started with ADT-Monitored Security for just $28.99 per month for its Traditional package. These fees are is slightly lower than the majority of security companies out there. This service comes with limited features but each security system comes with 24/7 ADT monitoring service for fire, carbon monoxide, flood, and burglary and a 6-month money-back guarantee. If during this time, you are at all dissatisfied with the service that ADT provides, they will refund you the installation charge and any monitoring fees you’ve accrued.
Once your service rep has designed a system for you and you've signed off, you'll get your second visit from ADT installation technicians. Installation is a four- to eight-hour affair. In my case, technicians arrived at 8:00 in the morning and left by 3:30 in the afternoon. My sales rep was there to walk me through what was happening, as well as two ADT technicians who did most of the work, but also, at separate intervals, an independent locksmith came to handle the smart lock and an electrician to handle the thermostat controls and other components like cabling for the Z-Wave hub ADT uses for its home automation equipment. Pulse is touted as a wireless system, but various central components, like the hub and the CellGuard backup box require the techs to run some cable and also require one physical port on your home Internet router (lower service tiers with less advanced equipment can make do with a landline or even just a cell connection).
ADT Security Services is a well-respected name in the home security market throughout the US and Canada. It’s also the largest provider in these areas. Customers can bring their own equipment or lease equipment from ADT for home security as well as medical response, disaster protection and home automation.
