I've been pleased with their customer support for the 2 years I have had an ADT alarm system installed into my home. What I like is from the research I have done separate of this review, ADT has not raised their monthly price in years. I guess because it effects so many people nationwide if they do, it tends to be a stable price. Much better than going with a company who runs promotions and 6 months later you are paying double for what you initially agreed upon.

When the tech installed my service he installed the motion detector upside down. Yes, upside down. I didn’t even know I didn’t have service for the first two months because it was scanning my ceiling. I had to go online and look at diagrams to figure it out myself that it was facing the wrong direction! Then they had to send someone back out for them to install it correctly. Then 6 months later, the electric door panel they installed craps out. I call them, and they tell me I have to call the manufacturer to send the device and then call them so they can come install it. Basically, I had to reinstall it myself (took hours) or pay to have ADT install it again.

There is a reason why this company has a 1 star rating...avoid them like the plague. They are a high pressure sales company who abuse the elders. My mother sign a contract with them in 2011. ADT wants the elder to believe they still have a "verbal" contract and they keep billing them despite the system not working for two years. They wanted to charge her another $400 to "repair" their system and they also unilaterally increased the price of the service. When we tried to cancel, they apply high pressure tactics to try to retain claiming there was a "verbal" contract...there was not...and they had a host of high pressure questions...this is a dirty company and stay away!
Many ADT home security systems are actually sold, installed and serviced by a nationwide network of authorized dealers, which may not maintain the same professional standards or offer the same equipment and deals as ADT corporate. It’s sometimes hard to tell if you’re buying a system from corporate or a dealer. ADT corporate websites include the logo, “ADT Always There,” whereas authorized dealers, like security giant Defender, ADT’s largest dealer markets ADT under the brand “Protect Your Home”. Dealers such as Defender, Security Choice and ADS Security Inc. will display an “ADT Authorized Dealer” logo on their web site, but some consumers may not notice the difference from ADT’s corporate logo.

For example, you are unable to see at a glance the price of motion detectors, additional control panels or carbon monoxide detectors. Potential customers should also be wary of what prices are shown. There are often additional fees that will raise the total bill when all is said and done.

We have had our ADT system for a month now. I researched two companies prior to choosing ADT: Vector and ADT. Vector pushed the leased systems and didn’t want to do window contacts (just glass break and motion sensors). ADT would sell me the system (I would own it) and would do door contacts, window contacts, glass break and a motion sensor. Since I knew the ADT name and liked the fact that they would do the window contacts, I chose to go with ADT. (Same prices from both companies.)
This is the worst company around . Very poor service fought with them for over 2 weeks to transfer to new place. They set appointments then never show up. This started April 21 they finally showed up April 30 to remove the system put it in a plastic bag handed it to me said I will be back at 9 AM May 1 to install at new house. For the 4 time it was a no show. Finally showed up May 10 and half ass installed it. As of today we still up able to use it. I also found they charged my account. Whatever you do not use this worthless company unless you want all your stuff stolen due to ADT not being able to provide a good service of protecting you home and family. ADT you are more then welcome to call me you have the number but you will not like the conversation. I give the same respect you give to me. So you know that it going to be a crappy conversation to match your crappy company service.
That's a very valid argument in ADT's favor. Moving on to different states or cities is sometimes inevitable for many, which means if your security company doesn't have a nation-wide reach, then there can be some really unnecessary hassles involved with your moving. A lot of bad blood can be avoided by going with old guys like ADT, which covers the entire nation in its length and breadth. Good points!
I did some research online after the whole debockle and found out I had actually not spoken with adt but some weird authorized dealer something or other. I called adt corporates number and they were very nice and apologetic but said they had nothing to do with these “protect your home” people. It was all very frustrating. A few weeks later there was a breaking a few house down so I started thinking about the alarm system again. This time I called the corporate number for adt that I had and they were actually really nice they sent someone out who was patient enough and let me read all 6 pages of the contract and even allowed me a 24 month term instead of 36. And the used all the equipment I had and gave me a rebate check for like $57 that I didn’t even know I was getting. Everything has been great since I actually set off the smoke detector a few weeks ago and my phone was ringing before I could even finish putting my code in to cancel it.
Before they contact the authorities, the monitoring company has to make contact with you. If you don’t answer, they call a backup contact first and will contact the authorities if that person doesn’t answer. If you do answer, it’ll be up to you to determine if you want the police sent to your home. Police response time may vary depending on how busy the police department is.
I was renting a house in the countryside in North Carolina. The landlord contacted ADT to install a new alarm system in the house. The previous system was no longer covered by anyone. The install was quick and complete. The only problem being the hall motion detector which they said shouldn’t pick up the movement of a 30# elderly dog, but routinely did. They disabled that sensor and didn’t have any more issues. Whenever there was an issue, they were quick to respond via phone and on one occasion had the police meet me at the house when a true alarm came in.
i love the fact of having a security system for my family i dont like the fact i have to pay alot for things to be covered under the system every window door and camera is extra.i love having a keypad but the response is very slow i dont like having a gap if the alarm goes off to when they contact you they should be calling as soon as alarm goes off the customer service is great price is ok but they should offer better packages to secure house instead of everything extra
Yes. Certain ADT home security packages don’t require a phone line to connect to the command center. Safewatch Cellguard is a cellular network that directs alarm signals to ADT command centers. A wireless signal can be used as backup, but Safewatch Cellguard is also available as the main communication method between your home and the command center.
It was the most recent technical problem that convinced me that using ADT was a big mistake. When we installed our system, we added a new feature to automate the garage doors (this was brand new and NOT using any of the old equipment left by the prior homeowners). After about 3 months, one of the garage doors went “offline” and couldn’t be reset. The technician that was sent out replaced the associated equipment, and iit started working again. A few weeks later, the second garage door went offline and couldn’t be reset. This time, the technician that was sent out informed me that my garage door opener brand is incompatible with ADT equipment and will continue to short circuit and burn out as a result. There was no recommended fix for this problem, and that ADT only learned of this issue about a year ago. However, this equipment had been installed only a 3 or 4 months prior, so I do not understand why ADT would have allowed this installation if they knew about this issue. Nobody has been able to explain why they moved forward with the installation, so my conclusion is that it resulted from ADT’s inability to communicate with their sales force and technicians (keep in mind that the technician that came out to service garage door #1 wasn’t aware of this situation, while the technician that serviced garage door #2 DID know).

The outside camera is hit or miss and has been since the system was installed. Overall, I'd say it works about 75 percent of the time. ADT has been out twice to fix it with neither visit making any difference. While it has a nice wow factor, the camera isn't really a lynchpin of the system, so I'm not overly concerned with it. Still, it is a primary component and you're paying for it, so overall it could use improvement.
We recently had an ADT security system installed in our home and I have had few problems with this company and their rates are great!! My daughter has Vivint at her house and she pays around $30 more a month. I like that Vivint has security cameras and that you can look in your house and adjust temps in your house right on your phone, but I still love my system. What I do not like however is the practices used in my town to get customers to switch from ADT to Vivint.
This will depend on which option you choose. We were able to find that most, but not all, ADT packages require a landline. For an added cost, you can have the ADT Cellular Guard technology monitoring package with Remote and Video service levels. Basically, your control panel will be equipped with a cellular chip. You won’t have to choose either a landline or cellular connection—you can simply have the cellular as a backup in case something happens to your landline.
As you start looking for a house alarm company, there are a number of things you need to look out for. Proceed with caution when you’re dealing with companies who install proprietary systems and claim that they only work with their licensed monitoring systems. You should also watch out for organizations who won’t let you alter your passcode or switch to another company even after your contract has finished. To be sure, opt for a company that gives you full access to your programming and code features and uses non-proprietary components.
ADT has the first thought name for security, but, worst to deal with. The sales tactics and the service performance is substandard. Pressuring to sign the contract…they will not let you review the it and its terms, only point to sign here. Pricing higher than anyone. The sales person kept calling me although I said not to. I suggest to never use them!!!

The notes from your last technician visit indicate that there is an issue with the WiFi range, not upload/download speed. My father, age 75, contacted ADT to switch to their service based on an advertised offer. He explained to the customer service representative he had Vonage for his phone service. The customer service rep. said she was not sure if the system could be installed without a landline. She scheduled the appointment and told my father to ask the technician. I seems odd that the customer service representative could not speak to my father’s situation, since it is not uncommon. As directed,my father asked the technician about installing the service with Vonage. He further explained the package he was expecting to be installed. The technician stated “I got you”. The technician then proceeded to install a thousand dollar system. When my father would not agree to the monthly payment, the technician got his supervisor on the phone to apply more pressure. When my father would not agree to pay the monthly fees associated with the system installed, the supervisor directed the technician to take the system out. The technician removed the ADT equipment but refused to reconnect my father’s existing equipment. Now my father has to pay for a service call and reinstallation of his previous service. My father is on a fixed income and does not have money to spare. I am thankful the he has his wits about him and did not yield to undue sales pressure. Shame on you ADT!!!!
