I have been an ADT client for a long time. At the point when my mom turned out to be sick and expected to remain home more often, I began to look into upgrading my system for one with video and ability for her to see who was at our door. After many research I found that plan require me to either include their TV products or services. Change I was not interested in making. So I upgrade with ADT, and our needs were met. My mother can choose whether or not she needs to her energy to answer the door.
ADT's latest rev of its software also supports its own Amazon Alexa skill. According to ADT, customers with an Alexa-enabled device, like an Amazon Echo, will be able to use it to arm and disarm their alarms and even access their smart devices using Alexa's voice recognition. However, this is not biometric voice security, meaning your individual voice pattern will not be enough to access the system; you'll still need to enter your alarm code or Pulse access pin number verbally.
I’m not quite sure why so many people are complaining about ADT. It’s not ADT. We had a guy named Brian Andrew from Protect Your Home come to our house and install the alarm. At first, I was very defensive because of all the negative comments on this site, but after he explained everything to me and walked me through the details of the alarm I was at ease and later apologized for being so defensive.
This is the worst company around . Very poor service fought with them for over 2 weeks to transfer to new place. They set appointments then never show up. This started April 21 they finally showed up April 30 to remove the system put it in a plastic bag handed it to me said I will be back at 9 AM May 1 to install at new house. For the 4 time it was a no show. Finally showed up May 10 and half ass installed it. As of today we still up able to use it. I also found they charged my account. Whatever you do not use this worthless company unless you want all your stuff stolen due to ADT not being able to provide a good service of protecting you home and family. ADT you are more then welcome to call me you have the number but you will not like the conversation. I give the same respect you give to me. So you know that it going to be a crappy conversation to match your crappy company service.

So glad I read your review because I have been going back and forth what cameras should I get. Really didn’t want an adt camera because my contract start all over again locked in for 36 months again and what if I didn’t like the cameras then I just stuck with it or pay a very high break contract fee. I think I will try some stand alone security cameras for now.


For over two years, I paid ADT monthly for my alarm system, only to find out that they were not actually receiving signals from my home (so, in fact, the alarm system did not work). In compensation, they offered me 6 months at $15/month. Need to test your system more often people and make sure the monitoring company is calling you when the alarm gets set off regardless of what company you have; this should be done!
Just canceled my alarm monitoring as of 10/29/2018 'cause they were ripping me off at $42 a month! I have an old BHS-4000A alarm system that was installed 10 years ago which can function independently, non monitored, and as a stand alone unit. Found out the hard way that ADT locks down your entire alarm system when you cancel!! I can't even use it as a stand alone alarm!! Even ADT's phone number shows up on the keypad display to call them!! These scumbags at ADT are holding my alarm, that I own, hostage!! It's all over the internet that they do this! 'Security' company my **!! Stay away from this company! They are not in the business to protect you, just their own wallet! Hey ADT, want to change my mind? Unlock my alarm!

We just moved into our first house 5 months ago in a neighborhood we didn’t know well, and getting a security system was very important to us. We considered several, and ADT just seemed to have the most bang for our buck. Our system hasn’t disappointed us one bit. Usually when I walk out of the door, my hands are full while I’m juggling a toddler. The app helps so much so that I can activate our system from my phone once I’m in the car.
He is slow and dumpy and from the beginning he acted like he did not want to be there. The job was really quite simple, simply install 2 cameras. I wanted to discuss the plans for installation but as we discussed the job, Mr. Lee got really impatient and rude. Soon he SNAPPED and Mr Lee WALKED OFF THE JOB!!! on the way out the door Mr Lee told me to "SHUT UP!" Really! I could not believe it. Mr. Lee wasted another hour on the phone in his truck and then drove all the way back to the East Bay.

Even though ADT offers home automation, it’s only included with the Premium Protection with Pulse package. This can be frustrating since home automation is a major selling point for most home security providers. The Premium Protection with Pulse package’s starting price is also pretty costly. And, on top of the monthly rate, you’ll have to purchase smart devices like locks, cameras and lights separately.
I had someone enter my home when I was at work. ADT called me right away but the cops didn't show up in time. I called back to see what ADT recorded as to how quickly they called (to see if it was their fault or police) and they said they called dispatch after neither myself or my wife answered our phones. So regardless of how quick or slow ADT may be, it still is up to your local authorities to trust their word and come check out your house. A few things got shuffled around with but nothing of real value got stolen. Not fun knowing someone has been snooping around in our home and now I am adding some Pulse cameras to the system for better surveillance.

J comes in and starts looking around and does his ultimate security evaluation which would cover every window door and crack in my house against burglars.  $5,000 to cover all of that.  I said no and he went down the list to cover just the downstairs, then the back of the downstairs, then just the doors. This was the second issue of his high pressure sales tactics “I’m not trying to scare you, but…” That’s exactly what it felt like he was trying to do.
I bought $2k+ of equipment after being told that the equipment was transferable to a new residence since I was installing it in a rental residence I did not own. It was explicitly explained that I was renting and would be moving within 3 years and was promised I could take all equipment with me to be installed in another home. When I moved I was informed that the equipment cannot be transferred but that a $500 moving credit is given, however the new home I was moving into had “a better system” and the $500 credit would cover the little bit of equipment I was missing to give me an “even better system” than I had in the previous home. New contract was signed based on this. No new equipment was installed – turns out the only existing equipment was a couple of door sensors and hard wired alarm pads, which were not used. There are no sensors on windows or 3 of the 5 doors. My last home had over ten window sensors and 5 door sensors as well as 2 alarm pads at entry doors. Now I have two doors protected and one alarm pad that can only be used in a room that is not a primary entry point and would require me to run across the house to disarm every time I enter my home. It is a 3 year contract that has to be paid in full so I am now paying for services for 3 years that cannot be used and were sold under completely false pretenses. The company refuses to deliver what was promised and continues to try to get me to buy more equipment to get what i already paid for. What’s more is that I had a 3 year contract in the previous home that they reassigned to another 3 year contract after having already fulfilled 2 years of the first contract – this is not what was explained to me, I was told the new contract was for the 1 year difference. I either have to cough up $800+ to cancel the contract or continue to pay for monitoring on equipment not installed.
This company sucks! They insisted that I needed an ugrade to my monitoring to wireless. They sent out a rep that changed my system to wireless. Well the sensor in my bedroom kept signaling that there was break in. The police came out 3 times, where I was charged for 3 false alarms. I called ADT to complain, they said that I had to pay for the false alarms and show them proof of payment to be reimbursed. They sent out their tech, that fixed the problem and I mailed them proof of payment for the false alarms. We went around and aroud with them sayig theey had to investigate the problem! What?!
