City-wide power failure Christmas morning 2015. Power went out while my daughter was preparing our traditional shrimp and grits. Soon after, we hastily left to grandparents' home for early dinner. Before the meal was over, we got a call from ADT. My daughter forgot to turn off the burner under the shrimp. We arrived to a yard full of firemen. Lots of smoke, but praise God, no fire. ADT contacted me and notified fire dept asap. This could have been a real disaster! System worked perfectly!!! Like a TV commercial. Thanks ADT!!!

I know that ADT is one of the best companies out there but I swear it has gone to their heads. I had used their service in the late 90's before losing my first home. Years later, I come back to them after being a customer with them for 9 years and they treated me like crap. The man I spoke to on the phone kept cutting me off when I was trying to ask questions, and long story short I over paid for something I didn't even want because the rep failed to listen to me. Could just be a rep issue??

It's no question that ADT is one of the more popular alarm systems. I am now planning on purchasing a new home and doing my research on home security systems and ADT keeps on popping up. I'm attracted to the technology that they employ such as the Pulse app and placing an ADT sign in front of my new house will surely deter to-be robbers. This is the worst company around . Very poor service fought with them for over 2 weeks to transfer to new place. They set appointments then never show up. This started April 21 they finally showed up April 30 to remove the system put it in a plastic bag handed it to me said I will be back at 9 AM May 1 to install at new house. For the 4 time it was a no show. Finally showed up May 10 and half ass installed it. As of today we still up able to use it. I also found they charged my account. Whatever you do not use this worthless company unless you want all your stuff stolen due to ADT not being able to provide a good service of protecting you home and family. ADT you are more then welcome to call me you have the number but you will not like the conversation. I give the same respect you give to me. So you know that it going to be a crappy conversation to match your crappy company service.
We had the worst time when we moved. It's a really long story, but the cliff notes version is that they said it would be an easy transfer and offered approx $400 worth in services. The control box and the keypad device both came with nearly dead batteries. 2 separate occasions they started beeping in the middle of the night. ADT told us to go to Radio Shack to get the batteries....we went there, Amazon, ebay, etc. and no one sold them. The system couldn't be accessed on our phones either. The device kept making us test and re-test and still wouldn't work properly. We had 3 technician visits and 6 months with a system that wouldn't work. They won't let us cancel. Today I had my 14th visit from ADT since I got their system in June. This is after they replaced the entire system one month ago. There is yet another problem and they have to come out next week again. Please DO NOT buy anything from ADT. I payed $3,000 up front and $67 a month for nothing. I can’t get out of the contract unless I pay another $1,000. Anyone but ADT.

Before they contact the authorities, the monitoring company has to make contact with you. If you don’t answer, they call a backup contact first and will contact the authorities if that person doesn’t answer. If you do answer, it’ll be up to you to determine if you want the police sent to your home. Police response time may vary depending on how busy the police department is.
We have had only problems with ADT services for our business. Their response time to an actual burglary seems to be in excess of an hour or more. When confronted with an issue with their services, they make up any excuse to not be held accountable. Also claims to have a six-month money back guarantee. ADT provides poor customer service and acts with negligence.
In regard to ADT customer service, the BBB rating varies by area. For example, Florida headquarters provide excellent customer service and maintain an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. This is mainly because ADT relies on company authorized independent dealers whose customer support agents might not be up to par with ADT’s standards. Remember to check locally and read reviews before committing to a provider. Also, look for a dealer that is BBB accredited.
Good insight. A criminal would have to be one very well researched guy to know that tip about ADT cameras. My guess is the burglar would move on to the next home if they saw cameras but still good information to know. You're right, there aren't too many cameras that go hand in hand with a security system yet. Getting Swann or other DVR systems that record 24/7 is a good idea. Also Vivint has good integration with their cameras (probably the best out of all security companies currently).
I work for a company that uses ADT in our office for security. We had trouble with a couple sensors for which an ADT tech came to fix. Whatever he did completely messed up the system. We were without an alarm system for over a week because they didn’t have any techs that could come till then. Why do they not treat this as a necessity much like someone that is on 24/7 to fix your furnace if it goes out in the winter. They didn’t care that the office was with out security for over a week. As far as I’m concerned a security company that doesn’t care if you don’t have security is useless. ADT is useless. I’m looking in to Frontpoint to replace ADT in our company. My warning to those seeking ADT for your home. If they don’t care about a business they aren’t going to care about your home.
I bought $2k+ of equipment after being told that the equipment was transferable to a new residence since I was installing it in a rental residence I did not own. It was explicitly explained that I was renting and would be moving within 3 years and was promised I could take all equipment with me to be installed in another home. When I moved I was informed that the equipment cannot be transferred but that a $500 moving credit is given, however the new home I was moving into had "a better system" and the $500 credit would cover the little bit of equipment I was missing to give me an "even better system" than I had in the previous home. New contract was signed based on this. No new equipment was installed - turns out the only existing equipment was a couple of door sensors and hard wired alarm pads, which were not used. There are no sensors on windows or 3 of the 5 doors. My last home had over ten window sensors and 5 door sensors as well as 2 alarm pads at entry doors. Now I have two doors protected and one alarm pad that can only be used in a room that is not a primary entry point and would require me to run across the house to disarm every time I enter my home. It is a 3 year contract that has to be paid in full so I am now paying for services for 3 years that cannot be used and were sold under completely false pretenses. The company refuses to deliver what was promised and continues to try to get me to buy more equipment to get what i already paid for. What's more is that I had a 3 year contract in the previous home that they reassigned to another 3 year contract after having already fulfilled 2 years of the first contract - this is not what was explained to me, I was told the new contract was for the 1 year difference. I either have to cough up $800+ to cancel the contract or continue to pay for monitoring on equipment not installed.
