After the pricing ding, there's the service contract. Competitors, like SimpliSafe, have no contract and let you out of your service whenever you want. ADT signs you to a three-year contract. If you were to move during your contract period, but opt to keep the service, ADT would install a basic system at your new home for $249 and let you add components at a 25 percent discount until you hit $750 worth of hardware. After that, you'd pay full price for additional hardware. You could attempt to uninstall some of the components at your old home and move them to your new one and ADT would incorporate those, but whatever is left in the old house after you leave, ADT will simply try to resell to the next owner.

The reason I got ADT was so that in case I needed to move out of state for my work (a possibility at the moment) I wouldn't have to pay a early termination fee for moving 'out of service area' as I've seen with other companies contracts. I believe I'll have to pay a $199 or so moving fee but that's better then cancelling and signing up with a new company once moved.

Yes and no. You're paying that monthly for storage but you have no monitoring setup. No guarantees and other things unique to ADT as well. Security cameras don't act as a full home security system; the two are actually usually bought and used separately. Most people add security camera systems as an added measure of security on top of their monitoring provider. You could go with the basic ADT plan for the alarm system and then add your own camera system (different brand) rather then paying the higher Pulse tier fee. This would be ideal for most people looking to both and still save money in your situation.
