J comes in and starts looking around and does his ultimate security evaluation which would cover every window door and crack in my house against burglars.  $5,000 to cover all of that.  I said no and he went down the list to cover just the downstairs, then the back of the downstairs, then just the doors. This was the second issue of his high pressure sales tactics “I’m not trying to scare you, but…” That’s exactly what it felt like he was trying to do.
I have been with ADT since 2004. I work out of town and really like the peace of mind I get with ADT protecting my home. The only call I have had since 2004 was during a storm. It appeared that the storm set off the alarm. My only complaint is the monthly fees. There have been small increases in fees over the years, never more than one dollar. I received a letter that they are increasing the monthly fee by $3.00 next month. Are they upgrading my system? No. Has there been an increase in alarm activity on my system? No. I guess they need the increase to give an executive a pay raise. Well, they have raised their fees out of my house. I am now going to find another security firm that appreciates long term customers. Good bye ADT.

I am a single mother and the "security system" I have received is a necessity. I do not feel safe which is the entire reason I went with a home security system. I recently received a flyer in the mail with my change of address forms from the post office with an ad for Protect Your Home advertising a “free” alarm system with 5 wireless sensors, motion, panel, and key fob with the signing of a 3 year contract.  I thought, “Great!”  I called the next day and spoke to a very polite sales representative and his manager and was set up to get an alarm installed that very afternoon.  I specifically told him, his manager, and the scheduler that I would not be available until after 4pm.

The company’s three-camera package is one of our favorites because it can cover a lot of square footage (like the first floor of a house). Each device comes with easy-to-install wall-mounting hardware. Need an extra camera? You can amp up your security by purchasing add-ons for your system.
At the end of the install, he goes to test the signal…it cuts in an out (it was cellular).  Two hours later at 8:00, he still can’t get a continuous signal.  He tells me he’ll have to come back tomorrow with an antenna to put in the CLOSET (please explain how this makes sense) to get better signal.  This means more holes in my walls and another tech in my house and another afternoon of mine wasted watching these guys use their tools. Fourth problem I had.

I have been an ADT customer for my two businesses. Because the locations were far apart I had to make it two separate systems but I still got a good discount for having them both under my name. I got all the equipment for free, and their Pulse monitoring package for under $99 a month (keep in mind that's 2 locations). I figure that is a cheap price to pay to keep an eye on all the high expenses inside my business and I am going to do it for my home too. Cheaper then most the other home bills people pay like TV, internet and utilities and yet it actually protects the most important things, their valuables and their family members. It's a wonder why some people are too cheap to pay for this assuming they can afford a house in the first place.

They will not stop their auto payment system and are overcharging us too. They will not stop their services until I respond to a email that came 1 week after my first call but I didn't see it before it expired. We are being charged more than contract price too. When I called again today, just like my first attempt, I was in hold for over 20 minutes. Again, I was told to expect an email and respond to it before they will cancel their auto pay. WHY SHOULDN'T THEY STOP THEIR SYSTEM? I told my wife that I guess we will have to close our bank account and move our money someplace else!

I too heard a lot about my friends and neighbors about ADT, but chose to ignore them and tried other small time companies just to save few bucks. In my quest to save few bucks here and there, I actually lost much more money and time which I could have saved by just going with the top guys in the industry. Last year, we relocated to a new home and decided to give ADT another chance since the prior homeowner had used ADT and there was some existing equipment that we hoped to re-use. In addition to the existing equipment (sensors, etc) that we re-used, we opted to add internal and external cameras, in addition to the garage door automation feature. Shortly after installation, we encountered a few issues which, individually, weren’t a big deal and could have been shaken off if they were the only issues. We also realized that the technology was cumbersome and NOT user-friendly. For example, the internal and external cameras are on different systems and need to be accessed using two different apps. We had trouble with the app for the external cameras, and when asking if there was a way to access the cameras via an internet browser on a computer, we were informed that the app was the only means for viewing. When inquiring as to how we could view the external camera activity if the app wasn’t working, they indicated that we should hook up a monitor to the DVR system (the equipment that powers the external cameras). When installing our system, we were never advised that we should hook up a monitor to this system so that we could view activity. Additionally, this solution doesn’t solve the problem if we are attempting to view the external camera activity from a remote location. I recognize that integrating this type of technology is complicated, but the other security system provider that we had previously used was able to combine all cameras into one system which could be viewed either via app or internet browser.

You can even install your own hardware, if you like, though your mileage will vary as to how deeply you'll integrate with ADT's software without help from a company technician.

He then said he would connect me to the “presedential dept” only to come back after holding for 5 minutes to tell me that he was not going to be able to do that. He said I could contact the local supplier to discuss this further as he was trying to get me off the phone in any way possible. I already went through that channel and the local company has nothing to do with billing!

When your house will be empty, you can arm the system in "Away Armed" mode for maximum protection and coverage. When you're at home or sleeping, you can arm the system in "Home Armed" mode. This will keep the perimeter secure (doors and windows armed) while allowing you to get up, and move around inside the house (motion detectors disarmed). Getting a late night snack won't wake up the whole house!

Cellguard is not a single product, but a series of components. First is the security panel. You may be able to use an existing ADT panel, or you may need a newer model with a cellular chip. Once you have a panel with a cellular chip, your system is ready to communicate with the monitoring center through a wireless cellular network. Cellular can be your sole means of communication with the monitoring center, or if you don’t want to ditch your landline, Cellguard can be used as a backup form of communication. In this case, Cellguard stays “switched off” so long as the landline is active, but if your landline is disrupted or disconnected, it automatically “switches on”.
I've been pleased with their customer support for the 2 years I have had an ADT alarm system installed into my home. What I like is from the research I have done separate of this review, ADT has not raised their monthly price in years. I guess because it effects so many people nationwide if they do, it tends to be a stable price. Much better than going with a company who runs promotions and 6 months later you are paying double for what you initially agreed upon.

The only downside to using it is that ADT hasn't integrated its camera or voice feed into the Pulse app. You'll need to not only download the Ring app to use it, but also set up a separate Ring account, especially if you want it to record video clips to the cloud for you to view later—which is separate from ADT's cloud and costs extra. Effectively, all ADT is doing with the Ring is reselling the device along with installation and service. It's not really integrated into the Pulse service.
After spending 1.5 hours on the phone and speaking to SEVEN operators, I STILL wasn't able to cancel my service. (I want to bundle with Xfinity.) While I was on hold, I was contemplating whether to keep ADT service so that I wouldn't have to pay the $480 penalty fee to break my contract. But, after that experience, I'd happily pay that amount so that I won't ever have to deal with ADT or Safe Street ever again!

When your kids grow up, you don’t stop worrying about them – OR your house. With remote access I can check to make sure the doors are locked, and even when she doesn’t pick up the phone, I can check on her, too! Because as any parent knows, your kids are far more valuable than your stuff, and peace of mind is at a premium when you’ve got teenagers!

Technology from ADT gets great reviews, despite the wide assortment of products. You can rest assured that everything from ADT is at least industry standard quality, if not better. While the monthly fees may seem high, ADT’s pricing doesn’t stray far from the pack, and in certain cases may be cheaper than other brands. You will lock into a 36-month agreement, but given the eight to eleven year average lifespan of a security system, this timeframe is relatively short compared to other providers’, which can be as long as a 5-year agreement.

ADT’s use of local vendors creates some inconsistencies with customer experience. Not every area will have the same equipment or pricing options, and local vendors vary greatly with transparency of pricing and other information. However, even with these inconsistencies, millions of people still choose ADT to protect their homes because it has a long track record of keeping people safe.
On the service side, however, ADT has been highly responsive. Support will attempt to fix your problem over the phone, including having you march through the house looking for panels and sensors to tweak, but if they can't help you resolve it within 15 minutes or so, they tend to default to sending someone out. All the technicians they've sent to my house since installation (three of them) have been prompt, courteous, and seemed to know what they were talking about.
This unit is constantly losing connectivity with its connected sensors, even if it's right next to them (I moved them all to be together for several days to test this). In addition to the complete loss of being able to know when there's O2/Fire, the hub only notifies you of a loss in connection at around 2 am the next morning, regardless of when it lost the connection. This is a super annoying series of beeps that continues until you get out of bed, put in your code, and tap through all the menus to tell the hub to "ignore the problem." No matter how many times you do this, this exercise is repeated several nights a week. You also cannot change the time or date on the device unless you have an ADT professional install it (what??). I finally sent it back and got the combination Samsung Smart Things hub and Nest solution which was way less expensive, way easier to set up, way nicer-looking and is way more reliable.
Jean, same here. There have been so many things NOT caught on the ADT security camera because it was outside of the 30 second recording and has to wait 4 to 5 minutes for a reset. So I had no proof the person actually did what they did even though I personally witnessed it myself. Still since it's not on camera, I have no proof as they will definitely deny it which is the reason for me getting the security camera in the first place.. I'm finding more time lapses as well, such as 30 minute gaps when there was clearly motion going on outside. Guess when that happens, it'll get blamed on the Wifi signal. There are even instances when I have a clip and/or picture, yet nothing is in view; figured the sensor caught it but it was outside of the actual viewing. So I agree with you.

I was satisfied with ADT and as a single woman, my security system gave me the peace of mind I needed to relax in my home with out fearing for my safety. I also enjoyed knowing that when I went on vacation, my house was secure. Many advances in home security systems have been developed since I had my system though and I would love to see what is available now with closed circuit cameras etc.
Well - after being an ADT customer for 5 years and really never having an issue with one exception. when we bought the newest indoor infared camera I was not excited about the fact that it doesn't work in total darkness like they say. That is usually not an issue because we have a light turn on if it senses motion. The issue came when the light bulb burned out and the camera did sense motion but all we got was a clip of total blackness. Also the 4 minute reset is definetly an issue. When will ADT fix this? I am considering a nest camera because of these issues.
I paid premiums to ADT for seven years. When my system started beeping, it took me two sleepless nights, three days, and five phone calls to get help , I discovered I could not have used the system anyway because I did not remember my password. ADT has no security questions that they ask to verify who you are. What a waste of money! When I decided to end my service with them, I was told it would take a written letter and thirty days to stop the service-time to collect another premium. I do not recommend this company. I give them zero stars, but the review would not submit unless I gave them some stars.
Bad customer service. Be careful when you sign the contract with this company. It’s a bait, always overcharge. You want to cancel! No way! You will pay for the cancel fee. A lot money. I will tell to all my friends, my family friend and the world. Don’t trust and don’t use this company. I’m sure I will never stay with this company after my contract. Liar and cheaters!
