Amazing breakdown! I have been looking all over at different companies and they never tell you who does what better because they all want your business. I am sold on this company and am giving them a call now. To me, from what I read about other companies, they are my best option as I am on a budget and don't need massive protection (my home is small!!). Thanks for this information!
ADT offers customer support via phone and email. If the system begins to malfunction, customers are urged to call and set an appointment with a company technician, but it will cost you. If you don’t want to pay for support, there is a handbook that shows you how to test the system, but the process can be tedious. ADT security reviews online indicate most customers avoid the trouble of DIY support and opt to pay the monthly maintenance fee.
With a professionally monitored system, when a smoke or intrusion alarm is triggered, an agent will first try to reach you via the two-way control panel before calling your listed phone number. If you fail to respond, the agent will call 911 to dispatch an emergency responder to your home. The nice thing about professionally installed systems is you don't have to lift a finger; after you've placed your order a technician will come to your home, set everything up for you, and show you how the system works. It's important to note that in some areas you may have to file for a permit to have a security system installed in your home.
The outside camera is hit or miss and has been since the system was installed. Overall, I'd say it works about 75 percent of the time. ADT has been out twice to fix it with neither visit making any difference. While it has a nice wow factor, the camera isn't really a lynchpin of the system, so I'm not overly concerned with it. Still, it is a primary component and you're paying for it, so overall it could use improvement.

ADT made some changes to the Pulse app in early 2018. While the UI seems to have gotten a little friendlier, which is always welcome, it temporarily removed one important feature that I missed: cloud storage for my camera view. The camera doesn't have a great track record of performance (see below), but when it worked, I liked having the 30-second clips of whatever video it took available for viewing through the Pulse app. That's been moved to an easily-missed "Clips" button, so be careful to examine the UI closely as new features come out or get deprecated. What you miss might not actually be gone.

Jean, same here. There have been so many things NOT caught on the ADT security camera because it was outside of the 30 second recording and has to wait 4 to 5 minutes for a reset. So I had no proof the person actually did what they did even though I personally witnessed it myself. Still since it's not on camera, I have no proof as they will definitely deny it which is the reason for me getting the security camera in the first place.. I'm finding more time lapses as well, such as 30 minute gaps when there was clearly motion going on outside. Guess when that happens, it'll get blamed on the Wifi signal. There are even instances when I have a clip and/or picture, yet nothing is in view; figured the sensor caught it but it was outside of the actual viewing. So I agree with you.

Smart guy Dallin! So many people think a gun is enough but we hear so many stories of home invasions happening when the gun wasn't close enough to get or the burglar getting in at night and the residents sleeping through it until it's too late. At least with any alarm system in place you get a good 30 second warning to get things ready in case of a face to face conflict.
At the end of the day, I believe that ADT wants to provide a good product and customer service, however, communication system is disjointed, broken and ineffective. The most disappointing thing is the fact that three different parties in different parts of their organization have gone completely cold in response to my attempts to determine how to fix my problem. I can only assume that they are completely incapable of addressing situations that are outside of the norm, especially when the issue is something that they should have informed me about before the equipment was installed. This is not only a disgrace from a customer service perspective, but completely insulting to a consumer who has a choice when selecting a home security service.

When I was a kid, we had ADT in the house and my parents raved about the service. When I had to choose my own service once I got older, of coarse I chose something familiar. BIG mistake. I guess they have just gotten so money hungry/rich over the years they just don’t care about customers at all any more. All we are to them are q notch in their sales quota. From outdated equipment, to lack of knowledge of the customer service department. They should really have TRAINING in the services and equipment they provide opposed to “training” on how to read the screen prompts ….heaven forbid those don’t work or they stumble around and want to transfer you etc….you have more a chance of figuring things out on your own, or better yet let a kid do it. They seem to have more knowledge nowdays than any customer service rep REALLY has. Plain and simple…..I will NEVER be using ADT again.
Worst experience ever. Unreliable and irresponsible service. Even for urgent matters you have to wait on line for at least 30 minutes. And because ADT Canada was not able to pick up my phone call within a few minutes as stated clearly to me the police was dispatched. When you tried to explain no one at ADT cares to take any responsibility. I have been with ADT for almost 10 years and they will not consider your loyalty if something goes wrong. I decided to leave this company. Even your alarm goes off now you will be asked to press 1 then 2 then ……. and wait forever. Think twice if you want professional and timely service.

When it comes to home security I'm a basic kind of guy. I just want it to know if someone breaks in my house so I can have my gun ready and protect my family. I use ADT, it seems the most logical and they have treated me great. I moved once with them which cost a little money but they installed the new Pulse system at my new place since I was due for an upgrade to cellular anyways. I don't do the cameras etc. but I do turn it on and off from my phone and that is easy with their ADT app.
Before they contact the authorities, the monitoring company has to make contact with you. If you don’t answer, they call a backup contact first and will contact the authorities if that person doesn’t answer. If you do answer, it’ll be up to you to determine if you want the police sent to your home. Police response time may vary depending on how busy the police department is.

This unit is constantly losing connectivity with its connected sensors, even if it's right next to them (I moved them all to be together for several days to test this). In addition to the complete loss of being able to know when there's O2/Fire, the hub only notifies you of a loss in connection at around 2 am the next morning, regardless of when it lost the connection. This is a super annoying series of beeps that continues until you get out of bed, put in your code, and tap through all the menus to tell the hub to "ignore the problem." No matter how many times you do this, this exercise is repeated several nights a week. You also cannot change the time or date on the device unless you have an ADT professional install it (what??). I finally sent it back and got the combination Samsung Smart Things hub and Nest solution which was way less expensive, way easier to set up, way nicer-looking and is way more reliable.
My upfront costs were high compared with the competition, and even if they'd come in at ADT's more average price of $1,100 to $1,500, I still would have choked a bit. But as you'll see below, mine is a fairly decked out example of an ADT installation. While I wasn't thrilled about the very expensive startup charge, the monthly dues seem reasonable considering what was installed. We have been with ADT for over a year and so far we are satisfied with the service provided. We did have a problem with incessant beeping only to realise that the battery was running low. A technician rectified the problem within two days. He was very courteous and removed his shoes without being asked to do so. I did, however, have to take time off work to accommodate ADT’s service hours.
