The best home security cameras offer features like night vision and a large field of view. The right location for your cameras depends on the exact layout of your home. We spoke with four industry professionals — a former FBI agent with experience testing home security systems, a criminal defense attorney, an ADT spokesman, and the president of a home security company — about video camera placement, and they offered a few general tips:
The installer came out and was polite and early. His manager showed up and seemed to rush him through everything. When setting up sensor they mis keyed motion sensor as door sensor which I caught later and had to have adt phone support fix. Then 24 hours later a window sensor fell off window. I reinstalled it and it functions as should now. When I paid for equipment I gave him credit card and I specified I wanted the monthly billing going to different card. He had both cards and whether he didn't enter is right or just didn't care it all ended up on one card. Low and behold a month later I have a hard pull showing up on my credit report. So now I have involved equifax credit bureau and have contacted defender security directly who was supposed to review things and get back to me in 24-48 via phone call and send letter via usps. After 5 days I had to call back to find out that they sent a letter and the person I was speaking to couldn't help me any further.
I have always wanted to keep my family and home safe, especially at night. I do not have a guard dog like some of my friends do and I do not find dogs effective. So I decided to do some research and found ADT to be the best choice. They came and thoroughly installed the sensors all throughout my house. They made sure to test the system to see if it was working properly. After that I am pleased with my security system. It is easy to use and we have never had a problem with it. Also, the staff are very friendly. If we have questions they always help us out. We have been safe in our home ever since (no more burglaries).

Vivint outranked every other home security system in J.D. Power’s customer satisfaction evaluation; it was the only company to earn five out of five Power Circles. According to the report, “Vivint Smart Home performs well in high-importance attributes: effectiveness of securing my home; ease of using the system; timeliness of resolving problem, question or request; and clarity of information provided for customer service.”
The initial consultation is your first visit from ADT, and it involves a service rep essentially touring your property, your home's interior, and questioning you about what you need and expect from your home security and automation system. The rep then makes recommendations on what equipment and service tier makes the most sense and sits down with you to go over every component and arrive at a final installation plan and price.
The rating rang true when we became Vivint customers ourselves. Our tester felt like the installation technician was a guest in his home — he even came prepared with protective shoe covers and asked to borrow the vacuum to clean up the drill debris. The Vivint tech was also upfront after he noticed that our tester had ordered more equipment than he needed. As our tester explained, “I originally asked for an outdoor surveillance camera, but after reviewing the house, the tech felt the doorbell camera was sufficient. Turns out, he was right.” That ended up lowering our tester’s expected price.
I am a home automation enthusiast and a DIY guy. When I started out with home automation, I was using the open source OpenHAB for my hub. This was nice for having everything localized, but too get anything to work was a chore and I spent most of my time messing with the system rather than enjoying it. I was looking for a mature system that would give me a lot of the benefits that OpenHAB gave me without all of the time spent on configuring it. I was also looking for a decent home security system to incorporate into the home automation system. That's when I found this product, ADT is the name I trust when it comes to home security and the SmartThings Hub was always ranked #1 in all of the reviews I read.
Even if we didn't get a military discount (I'm in services) I still would have gone for ADT. Almost all of my fellow comrades are using ADT in their houses and they don't have any complaints yet. Though obviously military discount is always sweet. It goes on to show how caring and patriotic a company is towards their nation. No home security company I know of does that I think.
So now I am looking at escalating it even further if need be depending on results of letter. ADT security customer service has been helpful but management and their authorized installers are a joke. Their adt phone app is laggy and takes forever to connect. The funny thing is we have same setup with video at shop and have no issues. If you are looking for security system go elsewhere. I would have never took my time out to write this review but it seems shit just keep rolling down hill. As an end user when it comes time to renew our residence and shop we most likely will look at other services providers.
For “smart” alerts you’ll need a NEST Aware subscription. The basic plan, which is the most popular option, costs around $10 per month. It comes with an advanced algorithm that fine-tunes the camera’s detection skills for identifying faces, voices and dog barking. Subscribers will also be able to save up to 240 hours of video for ten days. Need more than one surveillance camera? Consider Nest Cam’s three-camera kit.
My wife has been wanting me to have a security system installed since we moved in. When this was announced about a year ago, I thought it was just the product to fit the bill. I've always been a DIY type of guy and I've been looking to introduce some home automation into the house and this coupled the SmartThings hub with the security system so I could knock out two birds with one stone. The ability to be monitored by ADT was also attractive. This is my first
