I bought $2k+ of equipment after being told that the equipment was transferable to a new residence since I was installing it in a rental residence I did not own. It was explicitly explained that I was renting and would be moving within 3 years and was promised I could take all equipment with me to be installed in another home. When I moved I was informed that the equipment cannot be transferred but that a $500 moving credit is given, however the new home I was moving into had "a better system" and the $500 credit would cover the little bit of equipment I was missing to give me an "even better system" than I had in the previous home. New contract was signed based on this. No new equipment was installed - turns out the only existing equipment was a couple of door sensors and hard wired alarm pads, which were not used. There are no sensors on windows or 3 of the 5 doors. My last home had over ten window sensors and 5 door sensors as well as 2 alarm pads at entry doors. Now I have two doors protected and one alarm pad that can only be used in a room that is not a primary entry point and would require me to run across the house to disarm every time I enter my home. It is a 3 year contract that has to be paid in full so I am now paying for services for 3 years that cannot be used and were sold under completely false pretenses. The company refuses to deliver what was promised and continues to try to get me to buy more equipment to get what i already paid for. What's more is that I had a 3 year contract in the previous home that they reassigned to another 3 year contract after having already fulfilled 2 years of the first contract - this is not what was explained to me, I was told the new contract was for the 1 year difference. I either have to cough up $800+ to cancel the contract or continue to pay for monitoring on equipment not installed.
Before I met my new husband I was a single mom for a while and by myself with 2 kids in the house sometimes got a little scary. I used to be afraid someone would break in the glass door even though I had a stopper in to keep it secure. Once I had ADT I felt totally secure and able to sleep at night. I had a representative from one of ADT's subcontracted sales companies come to my house last year in August. He gave us a whole spiel about how if he could put a sign in our yard we could get a security system for free. My husband and I both specifically asked him how long the contract was for for the monitoring monthly fee and were told that it was 1 year. We specifically asked what it would cost it us to cancel after a year and he told us it wouldn't cost us anything. He told us that when a year was up we should call and tell them we were going to switch companies and they would lower our monthly payment or we could just stop it anytime after a year.
After being a customer for the past eight years, I tried to upgrade. My monthly price had exceeded $60 a month with old features. I scheduled to installs with the sales department. After hanging up the local office calls to confirm appointment they told the tech will collect the total payment. I said this was not agreed upon. Wow, I am blown away here. Did anyone read the ad you got in the mail, on the internet? Did you listen to the recording when you called in? It say’s free setup of 2 door sensors, 1 motion sensor and 1 keyless remote. NO WHERE does it say they cover all of your windows extra doors ect at no extra charge. These are all upgrades you can add to your account just like a smart phone VS a little flip phone or a neon VS a viper. You pay for what you get. You are getting 99 dollars worth. They have to pay for the parts, pay the installer pay for the advertising ( That flyer you called in on is not free)
I am very upset with my ADT experience and contract. Your sales rep Daehan ** gave me inadequate information regarding your ADT service and contract. I was very upfront and concerned about switching from SafeNet to ADT because I was planning on moving the following year. He ASSURED me that the move of equipment, install and monitoring fees would not incur additional charges! He also did NOT disclose that there was a 36 month contract or an early termination fee. If I was properly informed of incurring additional charges for my move, I would NOT have switched security companies as my contract with SafeNet was complete. In order for me to set up a new security monitoring system at my new place of residence, I received an estimate for $461.
What this service contract, termination clause, and pricing structure really tell me is that ADT isn't for apartment dwellers. If you're operating on a lease and your lifestyle means you'll be hopping residences for the foreseeable future, I don't think ADT is your best bet. I'd use Vivint or SimpliSafe, or one of the better DIY security kits, like iSmartAlarm Premium. But if you own your home and your professional life is stable enough to keep you where you are, then the termination clause really isn't an issue, and it's more about service quality as well as security and automation functionality, which are areas where ADT excels.
At the end of the day, it's all about the sign outside your house. The respect err. fear from thieves and burgulars the sign of ADT commands is simply astonishing. It was 10:25am when i called ADT because he hasn’t showed up yet, and I called back again after 10 minutes to check the status and the customer rep put me on hold and contacted Daniel and even his Sales Manager. Unfortunately can’t get hold of the two.
All in all, it's hard to go wrong with the trusted blue and white. Competitors still lack the brand name and good reputation that ADT has built over the past century. Being able to move anywhere in the USA and not pay a cancellation fee is a big plus. Great equipment, and a company that still installs the security system, they are our top recommendation for the average of a homeowner.

Since then - NOTHING - no contact or follow-up whatsoever - even when I've twice requested a new book to replace the one I was given. When I agreed to sign up, they were offering service for about $27.00 per month. When the installer visited, I was sick with a lupus flare that also affected my cognition. Turned out, they took advantage of an elderly, ill woman, charging me not 27 but 47 dollars per month. In addition, when I could think clearly again, I discovered I had signed for THREE years and not the one year the salesman had told me.
