I just got rid of m ADT system. It was installed onOctober 1st and in the four months I had it, I had at least 14 service calls to fix broken or non-functioning equipment and more calls from them telling me that a window was open when it was not. The window in question has not been opened over 25 years. And every time they would call about my “open window”, it would make the alarm impossible to set because it required over-riding that window. My bill was paid in full till the end of Sept. 2018. I called and canceled service on Sept 20, 2018 after sale of the house. Received a bill in Oct 2018 for $18.49. No detail on the bill only explanation after speaking to Scott is a charge incurred that happens because it takes a month to complete the cancellation process and that is wrote in the contract but I did not remember that being mentioned at the time service was started more than 3 yrs earlier. I was never late with a payment and there was never an alarm. So basically a person would be very wise to set up a DIY service and save a lot of money and getting taken advantage of.
So the salesperson told him that he would wait to talk to me, the wife, and was told that he wouldn’t. Today I was talking to a friend and she was pretty much told the same thing about the phone line and breaking in and she told him that she has a dog and he replied that he could break in and kill the dog, REALLY? This kind of sales pitch is creepy when they say what if I, instead of what if someone. It just makes Vivint’s salespeople sound like stalkers.
I bought $2k+ of equipment after being told that the equipment was transferable to a new residence since I was installing it in a rental residence I did not own. It was explicitly explained that I was renting and would be moving within 3 years and was promised I could take all equipment with me to be installed in another home. When I moved I was informed that the equipment cannot be transferred but that a $500 moving credit is given, however the new home I was moving into had "a better system" and the $500 credit would cover the little bit of equipment I was missing to give me an "even better system" than I had in the previous home. New contract was signed based on this. No new equipment was installed - turns out the only existing equipment was a couple of door sensors and hard wired alarm pads, which were not used. There are no sensors on windows or 3 of the 5 doors. My last home had over ten window sensors and 5 door sensors as well as 2 alarm pads at entry doors. Now I have two doors protected and one alarm pad that can only be used in a room that is not a primary entry point and would require me to run across the house to disarm every time I enter my home. It is a 3 year contract that has to be paid in full so I am now paying for services for 3 years that cannot be used and were sold under completely false pretenses. The company refuses to deliver what was promised and continues to try to get me to buy more equipment to get what i already paid for. What's more is that I had a 3 year contract in the previous home that they reassigned to another 3 year contract after having already fulfilled 2 years of the first contract - this is not what was explained to me, I was told the new contract was for the 1 year difference. I either have to cough up $800+ to cancel the contract or continue to pay for monitoring on equipment not installed.
ADT is an excellent company with state of the art equipment, solid company financials, and courteous professional employees. As a retired law enforcement professional, former head of security for a major company, and now security consultant I have used ADT for over many years. Have there been some problems? Of course – complicated security systems always have some glitches. But the problems have been quickly and professionally resolved. ADT is a good company with a solid track record.
First, I have been an ADT customer for 5 years; when I was researching an upgrade to my system, I called them first. This ADT install has resulted in a 3 month debacle by ADT that has yet to be corrected. The sales representative attempted to sell me equipment I already owned (I only realized this on installation day). And...because I was wanting a higher quality camera, the installers sold me "hd bullet" cameras. These cameras needed to be ordered and a second installation date set. On the first installation date, the installers did not follow their procedures and the HVAC did not work after ADT installed the thermostats. I had to hire an electrician to come and repair the HVAC.

Just canceled my alarm monitoring as of 10/29/2018 'cause they were ripping me off at $42 a month! I have an old BHS-4000A alarm system that was installed 10 years ago which can function independently, non monitored, and as a stand alone unit. Found out the hard way that ADT locks down your entire alarm system when you cancel!! I can't even use it as a stand alone alarm!! Even ADT's phone number shows up on the keypad display to call them!! These scumbags at ADT are holding my alarm, that I own, hostage!! It's all over the internet that they do this! 'Security' company my **!! Stay away from this company! They are not in the business to protect you, just their own wallet! Hey ADT, want to change my mind? Unlock my alarm!
I mean what do you want from them? Ask yourselfs what do you do for a living? Ill give you a little food for thought( your a bartender/ owner you are running a special for miller light draft at 1 dollar a glass. I come in and say I want jack and coke. My family has been using ADT while I was growing up (guess you could say I was born and bread white and blue) so I ended up following in their footsteps and got it for my own home whether that was the best deal or not I don't know. Installation process was quick, the guy really wasn't here for too long at all. The "smart" option is a bit confusing and I wish it was explained a bit better, but in time I'll figure it out. I can truly say they are one of the better security systems out there.
Well - after being an ADT customer for 5 years and really never having an issue with one exception. when we bought the newest indoor infared camera I was not excited about the fact that it doesn't work in total darkness like they say. That is usually not an issue because we have a light turn on if it senses motion. The issue came when the light bulb burned out and the camera did sense motion but all we got was a clip of total blackness. Also the 4 minute reset is definetly an issue. When will ADT fix this? I am considering a nest camera because of these issues.
