The 36 month contract, 30 days’ notice, and liquidated damages clauses are ridiculous. My system never worked as promised, but it did not matter to ADT. They relied on having a “contract” to enforce. If it cost less to fight them in court, I would have done so, and I am confident they would lose. I would be happy to join a class action against them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
ADT, like other security companies, will not charge you for interactions or calls. However, if you get multiple false alarms called from your residence, you may have to pay fines to the city for taking up police officers’ time. But we wouldn’t worry too much because ADT will test your system for flaws after installation, thus reducing the potential for false alarms.
There is a reason why this company has a 1 star rating...avoid them like the plague. They are a high pressure sales company who abuse the elders. My mother sign a contract with them in 2011. ADT wants the elder to believe they still have a "verbal" contract and they keep billing them despite the system not working for two years. They wanted to charge her another $400 to "repair" their system and they also unilaterally increased the price of the service. When we tried to cancel, they apply high pressure tactics to try to retain claiming there was a "verbal" contract...there was not...and they had a host of high pressure questions...this is a dirty company and stay away!
We are 20+ years loyal ADT customers. As veterans, my husband and I felt extremely comfortable leaving the country knowing our family's home security was being monitored by ADT while we were deployed. However, since our new home install in 2013, we have had nothing but issues; false alarms, unreliable alarm settings, unprompted notifications from the keypad, etc. We've made numerous calls, paid for upgrades, and had techs come to the house for troubleshooting with no resolution.

We think it’s awesome that Vivint gives you multiple options, but you should know that even though choosing a contract means you pay less upfront, you’ll have to pay 100% of the remaining contract if you cancel early.

Technology from ADT gets great reviews, despite the wide assortment of products. You can rest assured that everything from ADT is at least industry standard quality, if not better. While the monthly fees may seem high, ADT’s pricing doesn’t stray far from the pack, and in certain cases may be cheaper than other brands. You will lock into a 36-month agreement, but given the eight to eleven year average lifespan of a security system, this timeframe is relatively short compared to other providers’, which can be as long as a 5-year agreement.

They cost more because they have to go through verification with the Underwriters Laboratories (UL), an independent, non-profit organization that specializes in testing services and products to ensure maximum reliability and safety.
When the tech installed my service he installed the motion detector upside down. Yes, upside down. I didn’t even know I didn’t have service for the first two months because it was scanning my ceiling. I had to go online and look at diagrams to figure it out myself that it was facing the wrong direction! Then they had to send someone back out for them to install it correctly. Then 6 months later, the electric door panel they installed craps out. I call them, and they tell me I have to call the manufacturer to send the device and then call them so they can come install it. Basically, I had to reinstall it myself (took hours) or pay to have ADT install it again.
very happy with our system. has never failed, feel very secure when we turn it on at night. would recommend the system to anyone. i dropped a plate in the kitchen and the system came on asking if everything was alright, it sounded like glass breaking when the plate hit the floor. only problem we have is forgetting to turn it off in the morning but that is our fault.
I had ADT for a couple of years. I did not have any issues but then again I did not have any break-ins. I wish that I would have gotten a security system in my apartment as it has been broken into twice now. ADT was easy to use, easy to pay for, which for me is a HUGE bonus. I like being in full control of where my money goes and when and this was the case with ADT. Being able to go online and change things as I see fit. The customer service reps are always efficient and polite although the hold times can get ridiculous.
We had a burglar break our door walk straight to the register, took the square stand and register, returned inside of the store, hopped over the counter onto the employee side and looked for additional things, tried to open the register which was fixed to the bottom of the counter, went back to the car, looked into the trunk to fetch a tool, came back, hopped over the counter and took apart the cash drawer, and went back to the car, and came back once more. For a total of 4 entries and still no alarm was set off. He took a square stand ($100), iPad Air 1 16gb ($300+/-), cash drawer ($225), and cables to replace ($25), and to fix the door ($250).
A new ADT Customer will be able to take advantage of its lowest monitoring plan (Traditional) at $28.99 per month, however, this plan does not come with free equipment installation or the extended limited warranty. You will be required to sign a 36-month monitoring contract (24-month if you are a resident of California) which is unfortunate if you become dissatisfied with the alarm system after the 6-month money-back guarantee period.
The signal range depends on a few factors, including your home’s building materials, other wireless devices in the area, and any walls or objects through which the signal has to pass. Standard drywall and glass windows may not impact the strength of the camera’s wireless signal, but brick and concrete will. If there are brick walls, concrete floors, and large trees in between the camera and receiver, your signal strength will likely weaken.
At the end of the install, he goes to test the signal…it cuts in an out (it was cellular). Two hours later at 8:00, he still can’t get a continuous signal. He tells me he’ll have to come back tomorrow with an antenna to put in the CLOSET (please explain how this makes sense) to get better signal. This means more holes in my walls and another tech in my house and another afternoon of mine wasted watching these guys use their tools. Fourth problem I had.
I give them 3.5 stars out of 5. Their equipment is the only thing lacking to me compared to what I have seen with some of my friends but I also haven't upgraded to the new Pulse system yet so I can't really judge apples to apples. I do feel safer with ADT and had them 2 years now. Does anyone know if they offer infrared motion detectors with camera in them? I have seen these advertised but don't really know where to get them. Also, what are the add on costs for more equipment?
If you do provide your address to the receptionist, the sales consultant will work to put together a security package and schedule a technician’s on-site visit. During this walk-through, the technician will provide recommendations on ways to improve your security solution with additional features. These upgrades and additions fall outside of the initial price of the system, so carefully consider the additional cost and value to you before signing the agreement. Once the paperwork is complete and you’ve signed ADT’s three-year service contract, the technician will install your system. Their security has a major loop-hole that could get you killed or your house could burn down and no one will ever be called. 1. If your home phone line goes down the word “communication” shows up. And that’s it. No call to secondary phones, nothing! That single word with no other warning as to what it means is all they do. That means: a home invasion break in could happen, you’re being raped or murdered or stealing all your valuables and no one is coming because no one knows. There are a few things you should do when an ADT tech gets to your house so I am passing these tips onto everyone that reads this. First make sure you get all the signs and decals you want. Putting stickers on the back doors and windows where burglars typically come through could be a life saver. Also, make sure they walk you through how to run the Pulse app on your phone. It's really easy but I was confused on my account login information and they helped out there. Lastly, make sure to write down your verbal password (to verify false alarms) and let your whole family know. So far their security system has been what we needed!
Horrible customer service! I am moving and need to move my service too, but they will not allow me to move my service without having to renew my contract for another 3 years. I am not interested in renewing my contract as the customer service is terrible, but yet, they won’t let me move my service. They are requiring me to not sell my house just so they can get paid for another year. Outrageous! I will never ever use ADT ever again.

This unit is constantly losing connectivity with its connected sensors, even if it's right next to them (I moved them all to be together for several days to test this). In addition to the complete loss of being able to know when there's O2/Fire, the hub only notifies you of a loss in connection at around 2 am the next morning, regardless of when it lost the connection. This is a super annoying series of beeps that continues until you get out of bed, put in your code, and tap through all the menus to tell the hub to "ignore the problem." No matter how many times you do this, this exercise is repeated several nights a week. You also cannot change the time or date on the device unless you have an ADT professional install it (what??). I finally sent it back and got the combination Samsung Smart Things hub and Nest solution which was way less expensive, way easier to set up, way nicer-looking and is way more reliable.
Overall, it works great. I tested the camera via the web app, on my Samsung Galaxy S7 running the Android Pulse mobile app, and on my Apple iPad Pro running the iOS Pulse app. Video resolution was excellent across all three views, though it's especially striking on the iPad due to its excellent screen. My only ding is what does and doesn't set off the camera can be a little erratic at times, with cars passing by on the street triggering it, but the garbage man walking down the driveway sometimes not doing the trick. That's only a few feet, however, and anyone traveling all the way down the driveway or walking from the street to the front door has, so far, always been recorded.
It's no question that ADT is one of the more popular alarm systems. I am now planning on purchasing a new home and doing my research on home security systems and ADT keeps on popping up. I'm attracted to the technology that they employ such as the Pulse app and placing an ADT sign in front of my new house will surely deter to-be robbers. You won’t find any entry sensors with Canary, so it’s not great for homes with many access points (multiple doors and ground-floor windows), though it does have the ability to sync with multiple Canary cameras to form a web of video security. If you’re living in an apartment, and primarily need security cameras for home surveillance, the tower’s 145-degree lens should cover the majority of your living space.
Some of the best home security cameras are ones you can buy in addition to your larger system. Brands like Nest and Arlo offer high resolution cameras equipped with night vision and two-way communication. Most are affordable and easy to integrate with your system. Nest cameras, for example, are compatible with ADT and Vivint. Before purchasing a separate camera, make sure it pairs with your home security system.
