I’ve had ADT in five of my homes in three different states, since 1997 and now in my current home. I’ve never had one issue with the service, and the two occasions I needed help, it was due to a bad battery that I was able to replace myself. The system works perfectly, and I am very happy with my new Pulse System. Especially the Pulse interior cameras. It’s not the cheapest system but when it comes to my home and family I don’t want the cheapest, I want the best!
While Pulse is certainly much more expensive than a DIY system, like iSmartAlarm Premium or Abode, it offers capabilities those systems simply can't, including 24/7 monitoring and customer support. It's the most complete, full-featured home security system we've tested, and doubles as an automation platform for your other smart home devices. If you can swing the price, ADT definitely lives up to its reputation, and earns our Editors' Choice.
ADT supports a range of other security cameras including indoor cameras should you want one, so you can talk to your technician about different options if the base cam doesn't suit you. Overall, it's been fine for my needs and I'm considering installing another external one at the rear of the house. This is something that'll require a call to ADT and an installation and service charge, but after that, the cam will be fully integrated into the Pulse system. You can even install your own hardware, if you like, though your mileage will vary as to how deeply you'll integrate with ADT's software without help from a company technician.
ADT has one advantage over every other home surveillance camera system in our review: It offers unlimited cloud video storage as part of its security camera services, whereas the industry average is less than 1GB. You can keep as much security footage as you like, for as long as you like. I have had ADT since 2002 and as of today I'm canceling the service! After a recent move, they tried charging me more money for less equipment, sent me a bill for over $400 because of "early cancellation" although I had an appointment scheduled for a new installation, and removed a payment from my bank account after the service had been discontinued. They gave us a huge hassle for stopping service at a house we no longer lived in! Anything (equipment changes, moves, etc.) starts a new three year contract. In the amount of time I have had ADT services, I could have bought and paid for multiple, more cost effective services, not to mention the level of customer service. I am done!

Many ADT home security systems are actually sold, installed and serviced by a nationwide network of authorized dealers, which may not maintain the same professional standards or offer the same equipment and deals as ADT corporate. It’s sometimes hard to tell if you’re buying a system from corporate or a dealer. ADT corporate websites include the logo, “ADT Always There,” whereas authorized dealers, like security giant Defender, ADT’s largest dealer markets ADT under the brand “Protect Your Home”. I bought $2k+ of equipment after being told that the equipment was transferable to a new residence since I was installing it in a rental residence I did not own. It was explicitly explained that I was renting and would be moving within 3 years and was promised I could take all equipment with me to be installed in another home. When I moved I was informed that the equipment cannot be transferred but that a $500 moving credit is given, however the new home I was moving into had "a better system" and the $500 credit would cover the little bit of equipment I was missing to give me an "even better system" than I had in the previous home. New contract was signed based on this. No new equipment was installed - turns out the only existing equipment was a couple of door sensors and hard wired alarm pads, which were not used. There are no sensors on windows or 3 of the 5 doors. My last home had over ten window sensors and 5 door sensors as well as 2 alarm pads at entry doors. Now I have two doors protected and one alarm pad that can only be used in a room that is not a primary entry point and would require me to run across the house to disarm every time I enter my home. It is a 3 year contract that has to be paid in full so I am now paying for services for 3 years that cannot be used and were sold under completely false pretenses. The company refuses to deliver what was promised and continues to try to get me to buy more equipment to get what i already paid for. What's more is that I had a 3 year contract in the previous home that they reassigned to another 3 year contract after having already fulfilled 2 years of the first contract - this is not what was explained to me, I was told the new contract was for the 1 year difference. I either have to cough up $800+ to cancel the contract or continue to pay for monitoring on equipment not installed.

Obviously I am not alone with my red flag warning yelp review. ADT is the most known, that is why I was hellbent in getting them, but I wish I read all the reviews before. I accidentally tried to sign up with a 3rd party  Protecters or Defenders, the "authorized ADT salespeople", are the sleaziest, pushy salespeople that took me hostage, almost threatening me that if I didn't sign up immediately, I couldn't ever go back to ADT. But because I did sign up with them, I could not sign up with a REAL ADT salesperson, that completely contradicted everything the ADT authorized salesperson said. An ADT salesperson said they always get complaints on the 3rd parties, because of the bait and switch, and yet you can NEVER get a REAL ADT person to quote you without taking your blood type and personal information and credit card. So I called their competitors and ALL of them were a better experience, you feel you can trust them and they want to do a good job, not just get your credit card and sign you up for a hostage contract. Although I canceled with the 3rd party, I still couldn't go with ADT, which was a blessing because I found ACS security which is far far far better, not pushy, quoted me everything, and they work directly with ASC. Don't ever go with ADT, read all the reviews. Maybe ADT will improve if they read their reviews on them. Shame on them.
A smart lock is typically part of a robust smart home security setup, but you don't have to invest in a full-blown system to use one. If you're using a home automation hub to control things like lighting and thermostats, you can add a Z-Wave or Zigbee smart lock to the system without much effort. Alternately, if you don't have a home automation hub, look for a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth lock that comes with its own mobile app. Smart locks use standard pre-drilled holes and are fairly easy to install. We have had ADT since 2011 since buying a new home. In the last 5 years we have had a few incidents. The phone rang immediately when the alarm went off. They were very quick to handle the situation & their customer service has always been excellent. There is no comparison to other home security monitoring services. I feel much safer knowing I always have 24 hour protection in my home.
We had the worst time when we moved. It's a really long story, but the cliff notes version is that they said it would be an easy transfer and offered approx $400 worth in services. The control box and the keypad device both came with nearly dead batteries. 2 separate occasions they started beeping in the middle of the night. ADT told us to go to Radio Shack to get the batteries....we went there, Amazon, ebay, etc. and no one sold them. The system couldn't be accessed on our phones either. The device kept making us test and re-test and still wouldn't work properly. We had 3 technician visits and 6 months with a system that wouldn't work. They won't let us cancel. I am very upset with my ADT experience and contract. Your sales rep Daehan ** gave me inadequate information regarding your ADT service and contract. I was very upfront and concerned about switching from SafeNet to ADT because I was planning on moving the following year. He ASSURED me that the move of equipment, install and monitoring fees would not incur additional charges! He also did NOT disclose that there was a 36 month contract or an early termination fee. If I was properly informed of incurring additional charges for my move, I would NOT have switched security companies as my contract with SafeNet was complete. In order for me to set up a new security monitoring system at my new place of residence, I received an estimate for $461.

ADT is one of the most familiar home security companies out there and the name recognition can inspire confidence in customers and help to deter potential burglars. The company loses a few points because it uses local retailers with varying levels of customer service. ADT monitoring is also more expensive than other monitoring services, so it’s not the best option for people on a tight budget.

Many times agreed to visit me, let’s say Wednesday morning so I decided to stay and wait just to receive a call that afternoon to reschedule. Can you believe it? Not even explaining/apologizing first. During the 4 years happened at least 3 times. Sensors falling to the floor and activating the alarm causing the cops to come to finally find out that the sensor simply fell from the double face tape it was holding it. Yes, double face tape. Also, if you move in the middle of the 3 years contract, you are not allowed to continue the agreement at the new address. You need to start 3 years again or pay the whole remaining months. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND ADT.

We’ve had the ADT system for over 3 months now.  No problems at all.  Last week my “big alarm” went off.  I didn’t shut my door leading to the garage tight enough (a problem I have with that door if I don’t deadbolt it) and after I left the house, the “big alarm,” as I call it, went off.  ADT called my house. I was not home.  Then they called my cell phone and told me my alarm was going off.  I had just left my house 4 minutes before they called my cell phone, so I was able to let them know they did not need to call the police (they asked if they should send the police). ADT told me which door was open and I knew it was my fault.  I didn’t shut it properly.
I have been with ADT since 2004. I work out of town and really like the peace of mind I get with ADT protecting my home. The only call I have had since 2004 was during a storm. It appeared that the storm set off the alarm. My only complaint is the monthly fees. There have been small increases in fees over the years, never more than one dollar. I received a letter that they are increasing the monthly fee by $3.00 next month. Are they upgrading my system? No. Has there been an increase in alarm activity on my system? No. I guess they need the increase to give an executive a pay raise. Well, they have raised their fees out of my house. I am now going to find another security firm that appreciates long term customers. Good bye ADT.
Accounts are not clear. Raising Payments every month. Constant harassing calls all times of the day. I really don't know what my true monthly payments are. Customer service right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Terrible customer relation. ADT is a nightmare. I am determine to get someone look into my account. Deceiving contracts. FRUSTRATING!!
