I am not sure when ADT took a wicked turn, but this company plays slick games. Over the phone, I was quoted $27.99 for a monitoring fee. The phone rep told me that I wouldn't be charged until the tech came to my home and provided me with an assessment/consultation. So I provided her with my credit card number. After I hung up the phone with her, I received an alert of a charge for $105. She lied = Slick. They charge you this fee even before they come to your home. A few days later the tech arrived at the house and said that a $27.99 monitoring fee was not possible and he quoted me a monitoring fee of $52, plus tax. While I did not agree with this rate, I figured I would test the service out for a few days. But before I could totally make up my mind, the tech's assessment turned into him immediately installing the ADT keypad without asking. I literally left the room for a few seconds and he had already removed my old keypad system.
Frontpoint requires a big commitment after its 30-day trial: a 36-month contract. I agree with Jan. Security systems are not like a cell phone that you need the 'latest new gadget' every 2 or 3 years. If you get a quality system it can last 10+ years, just make sure you adapt to any big changes. There have really only been a few large leaps in alarm technology. 1) When it went from wired to wireless in later 90's. 2) When it went from land line to cellular towers in 00's. 3) Automation which really is a separate market and niche although closely related. I bought a house back in 2015 and decided to have a security system installed since I wasn’t going to be home much and would like some peace of mind. ADT was a pretty well known security company in my area and a few families in my neighborhood have ADT so I gave them a call. I ended up selling the house after a year and a half since I travel too much for work. I called to cancel my service to be told that I signed a three year contract and that I’d have to pay the remainder of the contract or I wouldn’t be able to cancel. I told them that I did not sign a contract and I was not made aware of there being a contract. The contract that I supposedly signed was emailed to me and the “signature” on the contract was nowhere close to mine. I was told to fill out a fraud package, to which I did. I filled out and sent in a fraud package only for the fraud department to say that my signature was “confirmed” and that it was me who sign it. How could I have sign a contract I was never informed about or seen? The only form I signed was the installment agreement and nowhere did it say I have to have the service for three years.
Also, don't expect ADT to listen to your complaint.  You won't get past helpdesk support. They suggest you write a letter if you want to speak to anyone higher that helpdesk.  A LETTER!, what century does this company live in. They must all drive to work using a Horse and Buggy. I knew at that point this wasn't the type of company that could provide me with the type of advanced security system you would expect in the 21st century.

Monitoring was fine, a few issues with some of the equipment and conflicting answers about how to fix it. But my biggest issue is cancelling services. It is a NIGHTMARE. I’ve called repeatedly, used their chat feature, faxed and emailed trying to cancel service. Yet somehow, they keep losing my request to cancel. They tell you it’s easy to cancel if you’re under military orders to move – just provide a copy of the orders they say. But the reality is that they’ll drag their feet and make you jump through hoops for weeks. Meanwhile, my house is selling, I can’t cancel service and I’m stuck paying for an alarm system on a house I will no longer own.
We are 20+ years loyal ADT customers. As veterans, my husband and I felt extremely comfortable leaving the country knowing our family's home security was being monitored by ADT while we were deployed. However, since our new home install in 2013, we have had nothing but issues; false alarms, unreliable alarm settings, unprompted notifications from the keypad, etc. We've made numerous calls, paid for upgrades, and had techs come to the house for troubleshooting with no resolution.

I do not understand how ADT has such a high rating on this website when a simple Google search shows terrible ratings across the board. This is why I chose to write my review on this website. An ADT rep came to my house when I purchased it, and promised me personal service, and we talked about all the places that would be wired, and old equipment that would be replaced. We also agreed that the price would be comparable to what I was paying in my old home. Fast forward, I move from my old home, ADT makes me close out the old contract, start a new contract at a higher price. The tech shows up, the sales rep is nowhere to be found and doesn’t answer his phone, THEY DON’T WIRE ANYTHING ON THE SECOND FLOOR STATING IT WILL COST EXTRA FOR EVERY ADDITIONAL WINDOW. Within 48 hours of them leaving, an alarm they installed on one of the exterior doors malfunctions and they don’t fix it for 5 more days. All this for the BASIC coverage at $44/month. I can’t say anything about any of the other services, but the second my contract is done I will be moving to another provider as ADT is a terrible crooked company.

They will not stop their auto payment system and are overcharging us too. They will not stop their services until I respond to a email that came 1 week after my first call but I didn't see it before it expired. We are being charged more than contract price too. When I called again today, just like my first attempt, I was in hold for over 20 minutes. Again, I was told to expect an email and respond to it before they will cancel their auto pay. WHY SHOULDN'T THEY STOP THEIR SYSTEM? I told my wife that I guess we will have to close our bank account and move our money someplace else!

After speaking with a sales representative and being completely up front and honest on my end, the sales person completely lied about the equipment that would be provided, the cost of the monitoring service, AND even the offer of the referral and gifts cards with their deal.
My experience with ADT was very bad from the beginning. After somebody broke into my house while I was sleeping I found necessary to get a security system. The first company I called was ADT, because it was very well rated on the internet. Over the phone, the person I spoke with told me that the equipment is free and I will pay between $28 and $58 a month depending on how I customize my package, and the installation time will be around 2-3 hours.
I am extremely disappointed with ADT billing department. I have had an account at my house for four years. I set one up for my dad's house last week. I told them several times this is not a replacement setup and that I need security at both homes. Come to find out they disconnected my service. They did not call me to see if they were correct in doing so, they just did it. One account is setup under my dad's name and the other under mine. I am just the person to call for emergencies and the one controlling the systems. ADT, how and why did you screw this up?

Updated on 11/21/2018: I wanted to follow up regarding the resolution to my situation. Turns out there is no resolution. I called, emailed and called again the CEO's office and they didn't can would not answer my questions. Hung up on me. Their so called Corporate Relations Manager, is a joke, she needs a back to basics training in customer service. They know they are wrong that is why they will not comment on my review. If you look at other 1 star reviews put on here after mine, you will see their response to say sorry to the customer, but mine? They won't even bother. They know I am telling the truth. Since they want to go ahead and blacklist me and remove services, that's fine. I will gladly take my money elsewhere; but they couldn't answer the one question I had for them that they are trying to use as their defense. Where does it say in the contract that they can cancel at any time and for any reason? Nowhere! Read the fine print.
