I have been an ADT customer for my two businesses. Because the locations were far apart I had to make it two separate systems but I still got a good discount for having them both under my name. I got all the equipment for free, and their Pulse monitoring package for under $99 a month (keep in mind that's 2 locations). I figure that is a cheap price to pay to keep an eye on all the high expenses inside my business and I am going to do it for my home too. Cheaper then most the other home bills people pay like TV, internet and utilities and yet it actually protects the most important things, their valuables and their family members. It's a wonder why some people are too cheap to pay for this assuming they can afford a house in the first place.

This is the worst company around . Very poor service fought with them for over 2 weeks to transfer to new place. They set appointments then never show up. This started April 21 they finally showed up April 30 to remove the system put it in a plastic bag handed it to me said I will be back at 9 AM May 1 to install at new house. For the 4 time it was a no show. Finally showed up May 10 and half ass installed it. As of today we still up able to use it. I also found they charged my account. Whatever you do not use this worthless company unless you want all your stuff stolen due to ADT not being able to provide a good service of protecting you home and family. ADT you are more then welcome to call me you have the number but you will not like the conversation. I give the same respect you give to me. So you know that it going to be a crappy conversation to match your crappy company service.

The installer came out and was polite and early. His manager showed up and seemed to rush him through everything. When setting up sensor they mis keyed motion sensor as door sensor which I caught later and had to have adt phone support fix. Then 24 hours later a window sensor fell off window. I reinstalled it and it functions as should now. When I paid for equipment I gave him credit card and I specified I wanted the monthly billing going to different card. He had both cards and whether he didn't enter is right or just didn't care it all ended up on one card. Low and behold a month later I have a hard pull showing up on my credit report. So now I have involved equifax credit bureau and have contacted defender security directly who was supposed to review things and get back to me in 24-48 via phone call and send letter via usps. After 5 days I had to call back to find out that they sent a letter and the person I was speaking to couldn't help me any further.

After speaking with a sales representative and being completely up front and honest on my end, the sales person completely lied about the equipment that would be provided, the cost of the monitoring service, AND even the offer of the referral and gifts cards with their deal.

I am a single mother and the "security system" I have received is a necessity. I do not feel safe which is the entire reason I went with a home security system. I'm still waiting for that amazing 'peace of mind' to happen as you see advertised everywhere but I do feel better with it installed thus far. Over ten years service and I upgraded to their new Pulse system. Because I've been a customer for so long they didn't put up a fight when I wanted a whole new wireless system. I was able to get it and have a few camera's, key remotes and things we have been missing out on for the past few years. ADT is the clear winner in my books, I hear horror stories of other companies jumping up the rate, going out of service or having 5 year agreements. You don't have to worry about any of this with the ol' White and Blue.
At the end of the install, he goes to test the signal…it cuts in an out (it was cellular).  Two hours later at 8:00, he still can’t get a continuous signal.  He tells me he’ll have to come back tomorrow with an antenna to put in the CLOSET (please explain how this makes sense) to get better signal.  This means more holes in my walls and another tech in my house and another afternoon of mine wasted watching these guys use their tools. Fourth problem I had.
So I have a ADT Alarm System in my house that was already here when I moved in and recently today the power randomly went out and came back on which I guess rebooted the system. I decided to step outside to see if everything was okay and when I opened my door the alarm went off and was extremely loud.. I held my hand over the speaker to kill most of the sound and decided to call ADT because I didn't know what to do I never had this happen to me before. When I called ADT the guy told me someone can come out tomorrow to take a look at it and stop it from making noise but I had to pay $100. This is for a security system I didn't set up, so I just had my husband unplug everything for now. Going to have the ADT rep still come out and see how much it would be for a new system to be put in. Most people probably don't fall into this situation but hope it helps nonetheless.

After many hours spent trying to contact the right people within ADT to solve this problem, one of the customer service supervisors provided me with a statement credit and indicated that the manager at the local ADT office advised me to purchase a particular type of garage door opener (at my own expense), which should then work with ADT equipment. When I attempted to directly contact this local office manager in order to determine the exact equipment model to purchase, I left three voicemails, none of which were returned. I exchanged an email with someone at ADT (corporate, presumably) about the frustrating situation, but when I inquired about HOW to get the local office manager to call me back, she also stopped responding (I tried sending the email twice). When I tried calling the customer service supervisor who originally gave me a statement credit and advised me about the local office manager’s recommendation, that call also went unreturned.

I just got rid of m ADT system. It was installed onOctober 1st and in the four months I had it, I had at least 14 service calls to fix broken or non-functioning equipment and more calls from them telling me that a window was open when it was not. The window in question has not been opened over 25 years. And every time they would call about my “open window”, it would make the alarm impossible to set because it required over-riding that window. I got a call from an ADT representative telling me they were receiving an alarm from my system. I researched two companies prior to choosing ADT: Vector and ADT.  Vector pushed the leased systems and didn’t want to do window contacts (just glass break and motion sensors).  ADT would sell me the system (I would own it) and would do door contacts, window contacts, glass break and a motion sensor.  Since I knew the ADT name and liked the fact that they would do the window contacts, I chose to go with ADT.  (Same prices from both companies.)

Several days later a beep began to sound again – similar to the one previous. A call to ADT’s service centre assured us that it was not the panel or anything to do with the system. It was suggested that the beep may be coming from a smoke or carbon monoxide detector. Those devices ‘pip’ not ‘beep’. In any case, we replaced them because they were due. Still, we heard the beep. We even went as far as replacing the batteries in every device in the home that required them. Still, we heard the beep. The beep appeared to come from the panel area but without the low battery warning on the panel we continued our search/detection just in case we were mistaken and ADT was correct.

A technician rectified the problem within two days. He was very courteous and removed his shoes without being asked to do so. My family has been using ADT for home security for two years now. I always feel safer at night when I turn on the system. We set it as away when we leave for trips, and I know that if there were a break-in, it would be handled extremely quick! We accidentally set the alarm off ourselves once and someone called us within a minute. Definitely worth it.
I really like the upgrade to their Pulse smart phone control app. It makes everything much easier. Got rid of the old crummy control panel, got a sleeker one and put it in the closet and then setup sub accounts for my kids and anyone I want to access the home security system. I don't feel ripped off by their pricing although I'm skeptical that it really costs $50 a month for monitoring. I suppose they need to make their money somewhere and this is where they do.
Jean, same here. There have been so many things NOT caught on the ADT security camera because it was outside of the 30 second recording and has to wait 4 to 5 minutes for a reset. So I had no proof the person actually did what they did even though I personally witnessed it myself. Still since it's not on camera, I have no proof as they will definitely deny it which is the reason for me getting the security camera in the first place.. I'm finding more time lapses as well, such as 30 minute gaps when there was clearly motion going on outside. Guess when that happens, it'll get blamed on the Wifi signal. There are even instances when I have a clip and/or picture, yet nothing is in view; figured the sensor caught it but it was outside of the actual viewing. So I agree with you.
This would not be an issue if the reset time wasn’t so RIDICULOUS; 5 minutes!?! This might be acceptable for a cheap stand-alone camera, but ADT is supposed to be a SECURITY vendor. Its widely known any time you see a camera and an ADT logo on the house, you just need to toss something in front of the camera, and then come back 30 seconds later. You now have 4:30s to do whatever you want, and if that’s not enough time, just repeat the same process. How embarrassing to say the least.
I had service with ADT for a number of years. During that time, I had one minor kitchen fire and incorrectly entered my alarm code one time. I was able to put a lid over the pan to extinguish the fire, but ADT called almost before I had done that. The night I entered my security code incorrectly, I went straight into the shower and didn’t hear them calling. (Living in a condominium, I had a silent alarm.) By the time I finished my shower, the police were at my door.Fortunately, those were the only two times the alarm went off, but I was impressed with how quickly ADT responded. I had shopped around before getting the system installed, and they were also offering a very competitively priced package.
The Pulse app also lets you access ADT's Home View, though you'll need to initially configure that using the web portal. Home View lets you create a visual blueprint of your house room by room and map where all your smart devices and security nodes are located. Once configured, Home View color-codes these device icons to show their status and summary activity screens, and if one of them is a camera, you can simply click on it to get a live view of what the cam is seeing.
It's hard to beat the biggest and best. I started out with Guardian but worked my way over to ADT for practical reasons. Lots of companies aren't nation wide so if you have to move (like we do my husband is in the military) it is too much of a pain to try and get out of contract etc. My advice is go with a national company so you don't have to pay any early termination fees.
Some DIY systems are self-monitored, which means you'll receive alerts when devices are triggered, but it's up to you to contact the local authorities if there's a break-in or a fire. However, DIY vendors are increasingly offering professional monitoring services; some require a contract and some allow you to pay as you go so you're only being monitored when you need it, such as when you're away on vacation.
Adt has the worse customer service in the world!!!! I feel safer both at home and when I’m away. It took no time at all to get used to the system and set up additional codes for those special people who needed them. So far, I’ve only set the alarm off by accident once, when I tossed open a downstairs window one morning before turning off the alarm. Fortunately, I was close enough to the keypad to stop it almost as quickly as it started. It was a great reminder that the alarm is immediate and LOUD!
Bad customer service. Be careful when you sign the contract with this company. It’s a bait, always overcharge. You want to cancel! No way! You will pay for the cancel fee. A lot money. I will tell to all my friends, my family friend and the world. Don’t trust and don’t use this company. I’m sure I will never stay with this company after my contract. Liar and cheaters!

We’ve had the ADT system for over 3 months now.  No problems at all.  Last week my “big alarm” went off.  I didn’t shut my door leading to the garage tight enough (a problem I have with that door if I don’t deadbolt it) and after I left the house, the “big alarm,” as I call it, went off.  ADT called my house. I was not home.  Then they called my cell phone and told me my alarm was going off.  I had just left my house 4 minutes before they called my cell phone, so I was able to let them know they did not need to call the police (they asked if they should send the police). ADT told me which door was open and I knew it was my fault.  I didn’t shut it properly.

Other things to consider when building out your DIY system include placement of the hub and any security cameras. The main hub usually requires a wired connection to your router, although there are wireless systems out here. Either way, it should be in close proximity to your router for optimal connectivity. If you're installing a system with a touch-screen panel, make sure there's a power outlet nearby. Most indoor and outdoor security cameras run on AC power and will require access to a wall outlet. While this isn't much of an issue with indoor cameras, outdoor camera placement will largely depend on accessibility to a power supply. If you don't have a GFCI outlet nearby, you'll have to install one or be prepared to drill a hole in your house to snake a power cable through to an indoor outlet.
ADT offers customer support via phone and email. If the system begins to malfunction, customers are urged to call and set an appointment with a company technician, but it will cost you. If you don’t want to pay for support, there is a handbook that shows you how to test the system, but the process can be tedious. Monitoring was fine, a few issues with some of the equipment and conflicting answers about how to fix it. But my biggest issue is cancelling services. It is a NIGHTMARE. I’ve called repeatedly, used their chat feature, faxed and emailed trying to cancel service. Yet somehow, they keep losing my request to cancel. They tell you it’s easy to cancel if you’re under military orders to move – just provide a copy of the orders they say. But the reality is that they’ll drag their feet and make you jump through hoops for weeks. Meanwhile, my house is selling, I can’t cancel service and I’m stuck paying for an alarm system on a house I will no longer own.

The ADT outdoor IP video camera over the garage works well, supports night vision, and is activated automatically via a motion sensor, though you can also log into your Pulse web portal or mobile app and get a live view at any time. However, I experienced several instances where the Pulse software refused to connect to the camera. A technician's visit didn't cure the problem, though he did install a weatherproof sleeve that was overlooked during the initial installation and seemed to reduce the problem somewhat. The ADT Pulse mobile software was updated during my first three months with the system, and since that's happened I've only experienced one outage that was cured by my logging out and back in again.
The Pulse app also lets you access ADT's Home View, though you'll need to initially configure that using the web portal. Home View lets you create a visual blueprint of your house room by room and map where all your smart devices and security nodes are located. Once configured, Home View color-codes these device icons to show their status and summary activity screens, and if one of them is a camera, you can simply click on it to get a live view of what the cam is seeing.
This is another Apple product on display. Apple is one of the biggest tech giants in the world. Their cameras on display is iSmartAlarm iCamera Keep Pro. The video resolution and frame goes for 1080p. Field of views goes up to 140 degrees. Night vision is included and has cloud and local. The pros are sharp image quality, motion tracking, mechanical pan & tilt, free cloud and local storage, time-lapse, and works with IFTTT and iSmartAlarm security system. The cons are pricey and pan and tilt is a little sluggish.

You’ll also get 2 keychain wireless remote controls so you and a second family member easily operate the security system from anywhere on your property (up to 100 feet away) and in case of an emergency sound the siren immediately and dispatch the police with just the press of a single button. (Full 3-seconds delay on panic function to reduce false alarms).
Scout doesn’t have as many extra features as some other alarm systems, but if you currently have a Nest Learning Thermostat or a Nest Cam, you’ll love this new, modern take on home security. Scout offers the lowest monthly monitoring price we’ve seen for cellular monitoring at $9.99 a month, but keep in mind that it’s not connected to a professional monitoring center unless you upgrade to $19.99.

We’ve had the ADT system for over 3 months now.  No problems at all.  Last week my “big alarm” went off.  I didn’t shut my door leading to the garage tight enough (a problem I have with that door if I don’t deadbolt it) and after I left the house, the “big alarm,” as I call it, went off.  ADT called my house. I was not home.  Then they called my cell phone and told me my alarm was going off.  I had just left my house 4 minutes before they called my cell phone, so I was able to let them know they did not need to call the police (they asked if they should send the police). ADT told me which door was open and I knew it was my fault.  I didn’t shut it properly.


Though GetSafe security systems integrate with home automation products like smart light bulbs, thermostats, and garage door openers, some customer reviews indicate that it can be difficult pairing GetSafe with these products. They were very quick to handle the situation & their customer service has always been excellent. There is no comparison to other home security monitoring services. I have been a loyal ADT customer for over 20 years. On December 13, 2016, my alarm went off early in the morning. It freaked me out BIG time. Never happened over the 20 years til now, the intruder most likely left before fully coming into my house. I have this alarm system to thank for keeping us safe. I didn't get evidence of the intruder so didn't have anything to pursue with. Glad I kept it over all the dull years to protect me during the one time it was needed.

Chances are if you’re thinking of a friend or neighbor’s home security system, they probably have an ADT sign out front. ADT has been considered the industry standard for home security, and although some of their stuff might not be as flashy, the equipment is solid and the monitoring aspect receives good reviews with customers (although sales and installation customer service could use some love).
