First off, they will charge you an up front $99 to install, plus charge tax on that, even before you get a technician to conduct the review to set up the system. Then, the promise of equipment – they promise “pre-wired” door and window sensors, however this only actually applies if you have an existing security system and all sensors are wireless anyway, so really they offer 7 wireless sensors ($129 per additional sensor). They will bait you on by saying “a manager is on and will work with you to approve this” – don’t believe it, as you’ll never hear from that manager ever again, even when you have his/her manager id number.

I feel safer both at home and when I’m away. It took no time at all to get used to the system and set up additional codes for those special people who needed them. So far, I’ve only set the alarm off by accident once, when I tossed open a downstairs window one morning before turning off the alarm. Fortunately, I was close enough to the keypad to stop it almost as quickly as it started. It was a great reminder that the alarm is immediate and LOUD!

We’re big fans of mobile access because it’s what home security is for—knowing your home is safe at any time and doing something about it when it’s threatened. Most companies now allow you to control your system this way from a keychain remote controller, mobile device (iOS or Android mostly), or web-based app for ease of use and distant check-ins.

If you stop halfway through installation and come back to it later, the site remembers where you left off. If you’re stalled at a particular stage for longer than you should be, a help window pops up on your device with a phone number to call. When you’re ready to activate the system, you call the customer service line, and a rep confirms that your system is online and fully functional. The entire process takes about 30 minutes.
We have had only problems with ADT services for our business. Their response time to an actual burglary seems to be in excess of an hour or more. When confronted with an issue with their services, they make up any excuse to not be held accountable. Also claims to have a six-month money back guarantee. ADT provides poor customer service and acts with negligence.
First and foremost I’d like to say My Family is SAFE!I have been a member of the ADT FAMILY for several years as a happy customer.Having two security systems on at different locations (2- homes) my homes are safe.As for the service and technician installer everything was explained very professional. All items explained and my choice of upgrading is my call, installation was fairly fast but speed isn’t what I’m looking for, it’s meticulous and perfection as to where and how the equipment is installed. And my installer did a very good job not only with equipment but explaining to my wife and I on how to use all upgrades .On a scale 1thru 10 and 10 being the best…….. My rating is 10+And this is why Im a customer and have full trust with ADT and most important! My family feel safe at night or anytime I leave on business trip.
Most video doorbells, like Editors' Choice SkyBell HD, use your existing doorbell wiring (two low-voltage wires) and are fairly easy to install, but there are battery-powered models available (like the Ring Video Doorbell 2) that install in minutes. Some work with other smart devices such as door locks and sirens and support IFTTT and Alexa voice commands.
Vivint’s mobile app allows you to arm and disarm your system, view and record camera footage, and everything in between. Our tester praised Vivint’s mobile alerts, noting that they come in handy for anyone prone to absent-mindedness: “The notifications for the door sensors are nice in case I open my basement sliding door and leave it open. It continues to check in and provide a notification that the 'sliding door is still open.’”
With over 140 years of experience, ADT is one of the most popular and dependable security providers in the nation, covering both homes and businesses in the United States and Canada with reliable monitoring and top-notch home automation options. Its plans range from $36.99 to $58.99 with a $99 activation fee, and they require a 36-month minimum contract with applicable early cancellation fees.
Technology from ADT gets great reviews, despite the wide assortment of products. You can rest assured that everything from ADT is at least industry standard quality, if not better. While the monthly fees may seem high, ADT’s pricing doesn’t stray far from the pack, and in certain cases may be cheaper than other brands. You will lock into a 36-month agreement, but given the eight to eleven year average lifespan of a security system, this timeframe is relatively short compared to other providers’, which can be as long as a 5-year agreement.
If we are counting rankings then my vote is 4/5. I just got them cause I felt I knew them best. My family had ADT growing up and so I followed suite. I didn't really compare it to other companies so can't say I know ADT is #1 or anything but the tech that installed our system did it quick and they showed us how to work it. Their pulse app took some getting used to as I don't really care for a "smart" home and I usually end up using the key remote they got me instead of my phone.
The crew was knowledgeable, professional, and made sure that I understood what was being installed and how to use it. By the time they left, I had everything up and running, had been personally tutored in its use, and had set up basic accounts and access credentials for the main system, the web portal, the remote monitoring software, and the third-party equipment ADT installed for me.

I had someone enter my home when I was at work. ADT called me right away but the cops didn't show up in time. I called back to see what ADT recorded as to how quickly they called (to see if it was their fault or police) and they said they called dispatch after neither myself or my wife answered our phones. So regardless of how quick or slow ADT may be, it still is up to your local authorities to trust their word and come check out your house. A few things got shuffled around with but nothing of real value got stolen. Not fun knowing someone has been snooping around in our home and now I am adding some Pulse cameras to the system for better surveillance.
"When we saw there was an upsurge in break-ins near our home we decided to compare some of the different home security companies, and ended up going with ADT. Choosing ADT to keep our home and family protected was the smartest choice we could have made, so now we don't worry as much as before since we know we're protected by a company that's always keeping an eye on everything 24 hours a day. Thank you ADT!"
The ADT outdoor IP video camera over the garage works well, supports night vision, and is activated automatically via a motion sensor, though you can also log into your Pulse web portal or mobile app and get a live view at any time. However, I experienced several instances where the Pulse software refused to connect to the camera. A technician's visit didn't cure the problem, though he did install a weatherproof sleeve that was overlooked during the initial installation and seemed to reduce the problem somewhat. The ADT Pulse mobile software was updated during my first three months with the system, and since that's happened I've only experienced one outage that was cured by my logging out and back in again.
My husband and I recently had a security system and carbon monoxide monitoring system installed in our home in Radnor Township. We cannot speak more highly of the customer service we received from our technician, David, and how easily the entire process of receiving the install was. From the initial phone call to having David explain how to set the alarm, everything was conducted professionally and with the utmost attention paid to having us both understand the system. We wanted an excellent security system for peace of mind and we can, without a doubt, say that our minds are entirely at peace! Many thanks ADT!
When we purchased our system it was for peace of mind for our home. Never would we have thought that it would be what saves our daughter. Thanks to ADT when her ex-boyfriend came through the front door they alerted the police of the intruder alert and just almost a mins after police showed and he was found trying to kidnapp my daughter. The quick response of alerting the police is what makes me stay and will forever be a ADT customer. Forever grateful.

I have a question... Wouldn't it be cheaper and more affordable to just get my own security cams online and run those instead of adding these to my ADT contract? My husband brought this up because his brother in law has security cameras around the house and they run off the wifi and there is no monthly bill for them. I think it is like $10 a month for the app, that is it.
I know a lot of people complain about the $99 installation fee but trust me, if you have ever tried to install one for the first time...$99 is a cheap price to pay! I wish I would have paid someone to install mine for me. It was a headache to do! Anyways, I'm with ADT and it's a great system for my family. Never had a issue them and I don't have a problem with their equipment. It does the job!
THE LIGHT CAME ON UP BY THE GARAGE THAT MY HUSBANDS BUSINESS WAS IN EARLY MORNING STILL DARK OUT I KNEW SOMETHING WASN’T RIGHT I RAN UP TO SEE AND SURE ENOUGH ,A KID WAS TRYING TO GET INTO OUR BUSINESS HE SAW ME AND GOT ANGRY AND BECAME VERY VIOLENT TOWARDS BE FORTUNATELY IT HAD SET OF AN ALARM TO OUR LOCAL COPS AND THEY WERE ON THERE WAY SO I TOLD HIM THAT AND HE TOOK OFF REALLY QUICK LEAVING ME ALONE NO LONGER HASSLING ME. Hello V. We apologize for any confusion regarding your service agreement. Your contract with ADT mandates a $25 trip charge when a technician visits your home, no matter the reason. The notes from your last technician visit indicate that there is an issue with the WiFi range, not upload/download speed. If you would like to schedule service for this issue, please contact ADT at 1-800-238-2727. Thank you. -Gabe
I was renting a house in the countryside in North Carolina. The landlord contacted ADT to install a new alarm system in the house. The previous system was no longer covered by anyone. The install was quick and complete. The only problem being the hall motion detector which they said shouldn’t pick up the movement of a 30# elderly dog, but routinely did. They disabled that sensor and didn’t have any more issues. Whenever there was an issue, they were quick to respond via phone and on one occasion had the police meet me at the house when a true alarm came in.
ADT is the face of home security, thanks to over a century’s worth of experience and millions of customers across North America. Add-on hazard sensors for floods, carbon monoxide and fires seamlessly integrate with ADT security systems and give extra peace of mind. Plus, ADT Pulse’s innovative tech make it a nice upgrade if you love home automation gadgets. With dedicated professional monitoring, advanced technology and a long legacy of protecting homes, ADT is a safe bet for a high-quality home security system.
We have had our ADT system for a month now. I researched two companies prior to choosing ADT: Vector and ADT.  Vector pushed the leased systems and didn’t want to do window contacts (just glass break and motion sensors).  ADT would sell me the system (I would own it) and would do door contacts, window contacts, glass break and a motion sensor.  Since I knew the ADT name and liked the fact that they would do the window contacts, I chose to go with ADT.  (Same prices from both companies.)
Vivint Flex Pay gives you the option to purchase your equipment up front with no added monthly cost—and no contract—or to finance the equipment interest-free over a 42- or 60-month contract. We think it’s awesome that Vivint gives you multiple options, but you should know that even though choosing a contract means you pay less upfront, you’ll have to pay 100% of the remaining contract if you cancel early.
ADT has four monitored security packages to choose from: basic, basic wireless, ADT Pulse, and ADT Pulse + Video. Their monthly fees are on the high side, from $36.99 to $58.99. They require a 36-month minimum contract. Additionally, in the event of early contract termination, ADT may ask the client to pay 70% of the monthly charges due for the balance of the first 36-months. They do offer a 6-month money back guarantee and a 90-day limited warranty for their products, but all in all a rather stringent pricing and contract policy.
We had ADT come to give us a quote on their equipment for home security. We already have a different system installed in our home. The salesman told us he had to connect ADT's keypad to see if we had enough juice to operate their system. He proceeded to take our existing keypad off the way and put his on. When all was done we decided not to go with the ADT system because it was too expensive for us.
Not specifically to do with the cameras, more the system it is attached to, but generally speaking you are only able to record a single 30s clip every 5 minutes. That’s a game-changer and should be enough to avoid ADT completely. I have a little “trick” in place which will allow me to record 1:30 (3 contiguous 30s clips) after motion is detected which is messy, but better that 30s.
We have been with ADT for 5 years now, we called today to let them we are moving and would need our service transferred. They said there would be an installation charge, ok fine, but offered us less equipment at a higher monthly charge!!! They said that cost is based on service not equipment, we want the same service we have now, no add ones. BS and if we want to cancel that will cost us $500!!! Why just because we want to move which by the way is in the same area, will cost us more and we have to get less equipment.
Frontpoint captures the best of both DIY and do-it-for-me worlds, with self-installation and sophisticated equipment line-up coupled with professional monitoring. We built our package uber-cheap — a control panel, glass break sensor, and four access sensors costs as little as $100 upfront. Then we installed and arranged the system, and let professional monitoring services take care of the rest.
Brinks is a trusted name in the home security industry and is ranked number one in customer satisfaction by J.D. Power. Though we haven’t tested Brinks’ equipment ourselves, its sleek touchscreen control panels, wireless sensors, and streamlined app seem promising. Brinks also offers home automation, which allows you to use your system as a hub for other smart devices, like automated locks and voice assistants.
Residential monitoring with California Security Pro is always going to include the warranty as well. Beware of any ADT monitoring rates that are below $30. You probably are not getting the residential warranty included in your ADT monitoring rates. The warranty covers any warranty parts and labor needed (first 90 days free, after 90 days just a trip charge of $25). Click here for the easy to read ADT Monitoring Cost Chart.
Agreed Nadia! For around $1 a day is a bargain to protect your family members and your possessions. Obviously an alarm system doesn't give you 100% confidence that a burglary won't take place but it minimizes the chances over 75% by having a monitored system. That is good to hear about your businesses and sounds like you will get a great deal on the 3rd set on your home. ADT also has the guarantees so if something does take place you have them and your insurance who are going to support you financially in recouping your lost costs.

The 36 month contract, 30 days’ notice, and liquidated damages clauses are ridiculous. My system never worked as promised, but it did not matter to ADT. They relied on having a “contract” to enforce. If it cost less to fight them in court, I would have done so, and I am confident they would lose. I would be happy to join a class action against them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Iris has quite a few flaws, as you can see below in the list of cons, which is why it isn’t higher on the list. But if you’re looking for a system that will integrate with tons of other home automation products and smart devices, Iris may be right for you. It comes with both Zigbee and Z-Wave compatibility, so it can be connected to a huge list of devices.

I have had ADT since 2002 and as of today I'm canceling the service! After a recent move, they tried charging me more money for less equipment, sent me a bill for over $400 because of "early cancellation" although I had an appointment scheduled for a new installation, and removed a payment from my bank account after the service had been discontinued. They gave us a huge hassle for stopping service at a house we no longer lived in! Anything (equipment changes, moves, etc.) starts a new three year contract. In the amount of time I have had ADT services, I could have bought and paid for multiple, more cost effective services, not to mention the level of customer service. I am done!
“I accidentally touched button on my emergency base unit. Response time was excellent. I know if it was a genuine emergency for me your staff would respond immediately with efficiency and professionalism. I feel very secure with this system. I will definitely recommend this unit to my friends and associates. We do have an ADT Security System and we are happy and satisfied with this as well.” – Ellen, Oct 7, 2017, Consumer Affairs

After your questions are answered about ADT equipment costs and savings, the ADT monitoring rate is the other part of the home security system equation. Alarm monitoring with ADT's monitoring center network is unparalleled in the industry. No other company offers you 6 monitoring centers located across North America. You might be concerned that the best monitoring won't have the best price tag. Rest assured, it's all very competitively priced.

On average, a basic installation will cost up to $2 per square foot of your property. Monitoring charges are between $25 and $40 per month, with around $10 extra for intercom communication. For pet-friendly devices, an extra $50 to $300 may need adding on, while fire protection features tend to be $5 extra a month. For a remote control, you’ll probably have to pay a one-off fee of up to $100. Fees shouldn’t be charged to connect you with the central monitoring station – this should be included as standard.
With a professionally monitored system, when a smoke or intrusion alarm is triggered, an agent will first try to reach you via the two-way control panel before calling your listed phone number. If you fail to respond, the agent will call 911 to dispatch an emergency responder to your home. The nice thing about professionally installed systems is you don't have to lift a finger; after you've placed your order a technician will come to your home, set everything up for you, and show you how the system works. It's important to note that in some areas you may have to file for a permit to have a security system installed in your home.
Link Interactive has an à la carte equipment selection model, so you can pick the equipment that’s important to you without paying for a preselected package. Link offers a variety of monitored sensors and detectors, home automation control, and video surveillance that are all designed for easy DIY installation. Link Interactive also has a 30-day risk-free trial.
$99 Customer Installation Charge. 36-Month Monitoring Agreement required at $27.99 per month ($1,331.64). 24-Month Monitoring Agreement required at $27.99 ($887.76) for California, including Quality Service Plan (QSP). Satisfactory credit history required. Termination Fee applies. Certain restrictions may apply. Offer valid for new ADT Authorized Premier Provider customers only and not on purchases from ADT LLC.
