Just need one camera to cover your front door? In it for the automation, along with the smart home security? You can purchase pretty much any equipment piece independent of a full security system. For example, companies like Nest and Samsung offer indoor and outdoor cameras, thermostats, doorbell cameras, and their own simple alarm systems. You can purchase any of this à la carte, without the obligation of a starter kit. If you decide you want a fuller system down the line, you can always integrate those individual purchases.

Temperature costs can add up, especially in winter and summer seasons, so it’s a good idea to turn off the heat or air conditioning when no one’s there to enjoy it. You can remotely adjust the Nest thermostat with the Pulse app. That way, when you’re leaving work or school, you can kick on your climate controls so the atmosphere is perfect by the time you get home.
My family has been using ADT while I was growing up (guess you could say I was born and bread white and blue) so I ended up following in their footsteps and got it for my own home whether that was the best deal or not I don't know. Installation process was quick, the guy really wasn't here for too long at all. The "smart" option is a bit confusing and I wish it was explained a bit better, but in time I'll figure it out. I can truly say they are one of the better security systems out there.
While Pulse is certainly much more expensive than a DIY system, like iSmartAlarm Premium or Abode, it offers capabilities those systems simply can't, including 24/7 monitoring and customer support. It's the most complete, full-featured home security system we've tested, and doubles as an automation platform for your other smart home devices. If you can swing the price, ADT definitely lives up to its reputation, and earns our Editors' Choice.
First off, they will charge you an up front $99 to install, plus charge tax on that, even before you get a technician to conduct the review to set up the system. Then, the promise of equipment – they promise “pre-wired” door and window sensors, however this only actually applies if you have an existing security system and all sensors are wireless anyway, so really they offer 7 wireless sensors ($129 per additional sensor). They will bait you on by saying “a manager is on and will work with you to approve this” – don’t believe it, as you’ll never hear from that manager ever again, even when you have his/her manager id number.

Monitoring doesn’t cost much with Scout, but whether you choose to do it yourself or have professionals do it for you, you’ll still be charged. This actually isn’t exceptional when it comes to DIY home security, however. For instance, while SimpliSafe boasts a free self-monitoring option, it won’t send you any notifications without a paid professional plan.
If we are counting rankings then my vote is 4/5. I just got them cause I felt I knew them best. My family had ADT growing up and so I followed suite. I didn't really compare it to other companies so can't say I know ADT is #1 or anything but the tech that installed our system did it quick and they showed us how to work it. Their pulse app took some getting used to as I don't really care for a "smart" home and I usually end up using the key remote they got me instead of my phone.

We had Adt and then after awhile shut it off. We recently made the decision to turn our services back on and they were amazing! The Adt crew came out to the house and updated our entire system, upgrading our keypad and walking each family member through their own pass code. They made sure we knew how to use their services to the best of our ability. We even got a remote!
The next plan up is called Basic Security + Wireless Connect. This plan offers everything in Basic Security plus Equipment Service Protection for a total cost of $48.99/month, or around $12/week. The main difference is that Basic Security + Wireless Connect doesn’t require a landline connection, making it an attractive option for customers without a landline installed. Security systems with wireless connectivity are also great for customers who don’t want to run the risk of burglars cutting their wires. Plus, alerts tend to reach monitoring stations faster with cell radio than with landlines.
Ranging from $9/week* to $14/week*, find an ADT alarm monitoring solution that fits your lifestyle and security needs. Call to speak to a monitoring professional who will help you find exactly what you’re looking for, whether you prefer easy-to-use equipment or advanced remote monitoring. And if you order today, you’ll get a $100 Visa® Reward Card. **
- I did notice a randomly occurring discrepancy where the SmartThings iOS app will, at times, say that there aren't any monitorable devices under Home Security, while other times the app will tell me the system is 'ready to arm'. Both the app and the security hub have up-to-date software so I'm not sure what's going on there. This doesn't appear to impact functionality as the security hub touchscreen will allow arming/disarming of the system in either scenario.

I love all of the features with this new system. It’s great for pet owners. I do have to say that it is a little confusing how the packages are displayed online, versus what you can get from the company on the phone, or in person. I currently have the middle tier, but I’m maxed out on ‘points’ for more equipment. I can apparently buy the hardware at full price and install it for it to work, but I cannot get it for free like the rest of the equipment. This isn’t a huge drawback, since I did get free hardware and install, but it’s not stated clearly online. So far everything has been working great, and I’m excited to not worry about break-ins or fires. Wish the contract was not for 5 years. Seems a little excessive.
Finally, ADT’s Video Package combines everything from the Control level with its Remote Secure Video upgrade, which is ideal for those who prefer greater control over their home system from afar. While the upfront costs are still $125, your monthly monitoring fee jumps to $52.99 for live monitoring of your home, allowing you to tap into the video feed from your home’s cameras no matter where you are.
