I'm fortunate enough to live in a house I spent a lot of time in while growing up. It has an old security system that hasn't had service for years. I remember watching a crew of installers come and drill holes into doors, window frames, and fish wire through the drywall for the motion detectors. It took two people an entire day and many tools to install the now-archaic system.
If you move into a place that has ADT security already installed, just pay the $19.99 activation fee with ADT. The only problem is you might have equipment that is no longer compatible, considering ADT has largely grown by acquiring other companies. The only way to know is to call ADT for a free consultation—or as we like to think of it, free advice.
The only major downside to Pulse is price and its three-year service contract. When compared with other players, like Vivint or Frontpoint, the pricing structure is similar in that there's an upfront installation cost you can pay all at once or spread across the first three months, and then a monthly cost for maintenance and monitoring. If you compare only prices published on the web, then ADT Pulse looks very competitive. But in practice, if you opt for the higher end of the tiering scale and a modified system with a bunch of devices that aren't included in a basic tier package (and ADT will steer you that way), your price will quickly balloon. In my case, I wound up with an excellent all-around solution, but an eyebrow-arching upfront cost of $3,276.79 and a monthly charge of $63.89, which makes Pulse the most expensive solution we've tested to date.
The actual alarm system works well. The alarm is a good volume such that it will wake you up but won’t leave your ears ringing. It is fairly easy to learn how to use and operate. However, if the alarm does go off and is not cancelled, the phone operators that call rarely follow the protocol they are supposed to They are supposed to verify your identity and use a passcode to ensure you are not being held under duress, and this was rarely done. Sometimes there was a very long time gap between the alarm going off and getting a phone call to check on our safety. Overall, the system is great if you are home in the house and want alarms for your own alert, but don’t rely on the phone operators to help in a true emergency.
This is the worst company around . Very poor service fought with them for over 2 weeks to transfer to new place. They set appointments then never show up. This started April 21 they finally showed up April 30 to remove the system put it in a plastic bag handed it to me said I will be back at 9 AM May 1 to install at new house. For the 4 time it was a no show. Finally showed up May 10 and half ass installed it. As of today we still up able to use it. I also found they charged my account. Whatever you do not use this worthless company unless you want all your stuff stolen due to ADT not being able to provide a good service of protecting you home and family. ADT you are more then welcome to call me you have the number but you will not like the conversation. I give the same respect you give to me. So you know that it going to be a crappy conversation to match your crappy company service.

The camera's auto-record function is based on motion sensors tuned to ignore small animals. The cam will record a 30-second video clip, then pause for four minutes before it records again. Auto-recorded clips are stored in ADT's Pulse cloud and can be accessed via the Pulse app. The camera operates at 720p resolution and you can record either a manual video or a still snapshot using the Pulse mobile app. All video clips, your own or the ones the camera takes automatically, are stored in ADT's cloud for 30 days. If you want to download anything to save long-term, it's doable, but only using the ADT web portal, not the mobile app. All this functionality comes with your Pulse service contract, none of it costs extra. The ADT Essentials plan for basic digital monitoring service has a limited lifetime warranty on parts and labor, something that other competitors do not offer. If you want additional protection, the Essentials Plus package includes 2-way voice monitoring. Like all plans, this one includes monitoring for police, fire, and medical emergencies. However, both plans require customers to have access to their own landline phone.
My upfront costs were high compared with the competition, and even if they'd come in at ADT's more average price of $1,100 to $1,500, I still would have choked a bit. But as you'll see below, mine is a fairly decked out example of an ADT installation. While I wasn't thrilled about the very expensive startup charge, the monthly dues seem reasonable considering what was installed. And while my addition of the Quality Service Plan cost me another $11 per month, I felt that was worth it since it covers parts and labor on any devices that need fixing; and besides, I received a $7 and change monthly discount because I'm a State Farm customer, a discount that'll apply to you, too, if you use not just State Farm, but also USAA, MetLife, Chubb, and several other insurance providers. That brought me down to just under $64 per month, which I feel is worth it.

I have always wanted to keep my family and home safe, especially at night. I do not have a guard dog like some of my friends do and I do not find dogs effective. So I decided to do some research and found ADT to be the best choice. They came and thoroughly installed the sensors all throughout my house. They made sure to test the system to see if it was working properly. After that I am pleased with my security system. It is easy to use and we have never had a problem with it. Also, the staff are very friendly. If we have questions they always help us out. We have been safe in our home ever since (no more burglaries).

It appeared that the storm set off the alarm. My only complaint is the monthly fees. There have been small increases in fees over the years, never more than one dollar. I received a letter that they are increasing the monthly fee by $3.00 next month. Are they upgrading my system? No. Has there been an increase in alarm activity on my system? No. I guess they need the increase to give an executive a pay raise. Well, they have raised their fees out of my house. I am now going to find another security firm that appreciates long term customers. Good bye ADT.
The 36 month contract, 30 days’ notice, and liquidated damages clauses are ridiculous. My system never worked as promised, but it did not matter to ADT. They relied on having a “contract” to enforce. If it cost less to fight them in court, I would have done so, and I am confident they would lose. I would be happy to join a class action against them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Many times agreed to vist me, let’s say Wednesday morning so I decided to stay and wait just to receive a call that afternoon to reschedule. Can you believe it? Not even explaining/apologizing first. Sensors falling and activating the alarm causing the cops to come to finally find out that the sensor simply fall from the double face tape it was holding it. Yes, double face tape. Also, if you move in the middle of the 3 years contract, you are not allowed to continue the agreement at the new address. You need to start 3 years again or pay the whole remaining months. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND ADT.
In regard to ADT customer service, the BBB rating varies by area. For example, Florida headquarters provide excellent customer service and maintain an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. This is mainly because ADT relies on company authorized independent dealers whose customer support agents might not be up to par with ADT’s standards. Remember to check locally and read reviews before committing to a provider. Also, look for a dealer that is BBB accredited.
The technician explained that ADT’s broadband systems have trouble connecting to Suddenlink routers, which our tester had, so he tried a different kind of command hub. After he left, our tester noticed he was charged $190 more than his original quote. The new equipment was significantly more expensive because it worked on cellular signals instead of Wi-Fi. We wish we had known about that extra charge upfront.

In my quest to save few bucks here and there, I actually lost much more money and time which I could have saved by just going with the top guys in the industry. Life has been much smoother and relaxed after making a switch to ADT.
We have been very grateful for the last two years having ADT in our lives. We had a situation and then we contacted ADT and we feel so much more secure. Whenever we have a question, they are so wonderfully pleasant to talk to and to figure out everything. Someday soon we would like to give an "ADT contract" to our daughter, son-in-law & children.... On the service side, however, ADT has been highly responsive. Support will attempt to fix your problem over the phone, including having you march through the house looking for panels and sensors to tweak, but if they can't help you resolve it within 15 minutes or so, they tend to default to sending someone out. All the technicians they've sent to my house since installation (three of them) have been prompt, courteous, and seemed to know what they were talking about.
