Other things to consider when building out your DIY system include placement of the hub and any security cameras. The main hub usually requires a wired connection to your router, although there are wireless systems out here. Either way, it should be in close proximity to your router for optimal connectivity. If you're installing a system with a touch-screen panel, make sure there's a power outlet nearby. Most indoor and outdoor security cameras run on AC power and will require access to a wall outlet. While this isn't much of an issue with indoor cameras, outdoor camera placement will largely depend on accessibility to a power supply. If you don't have a GFCI outlet nearby, you'll have to install one or be prepared to drill a hole in your house to snake a power cable through to an indoor outlet.
We have been ADT customers, since ADT took over Broadview/Brinks. Today March 27th 2014, we had our 15y old system upgraded. Our field technician and ADT employee named xxxxxxx gave us outstanding service today. He was professional and knowledgeable, patient with my questions. His answers were complete and at a level that I could understand. We have not always been as fortunate to have such a high level of service, with the company we had before ADT. It is a refreshing experience to encounter someone who is interested in good customer service and makes certain the job is completed correctly before he leaves. You need to “clone” this individual! He is an exceptional example of the type of employee that gives superior ROI to the company he works for.
I had a security system with ADT. It got quite annoying having to call them every 2 months to figure out why I was paying $1, $3, $5 more every few months. They told me my rates were locked in, what they didn't tell me was my account was being sold to another monitoring company thus raising my rates. Than I found out from another company that all the equipment I paid top dollar for was proprietary to ADT. After doing more research I learned that they bought a manufacturing alarm company called DSC.
Most SimpliSafe customers report high levels of satisfaction, though SimpliSafe’s customer service is pretty unremarkable. There’s not a lot that stands out, but there’s nothing really wrong with it either. It’s just kind of there. SimpliSafe does do a great job, however, in presenting customers with a product that is so easy to use that there’s rarely a need to contact customer service in the first place. Worst business i have ever dealt with. From the start, i was lied to by the installation guy who said there is a grace period of a month to cancel the contact without a termination fee. When i called in a week later to cancel, ADT advised it was an incorrrect information which was given by an outsourced contractor so they can not be responsible for it. So i was stuck with them for two years. When i called to cancel the account after the two year contract was over, ADT required 30days cancelltaion period which meant they will simply collect a payment for an extra month for just wanting to cancel their ridiculous service which i want no part of ever again. From start to finish, this company is a borderline fraud.
Monitoring was fine, a few issues with some of the equipment and conflicting answers about how to fix it. But my biggest issue is cancelling services. It is a NIGHTMARE. I’ve called repeatedly, used their chat feature, faxed and emailed trying to cancel service. Yet somehow, they keep losing my request to cancel. They tell you it’s easy to cancel if you’re under military orders to move – just provide a copy of the orders they say. But the reality is that they’ll drag their feet and make you jump through hoops for weeks. Meanwhile, my house is selling, I can’t cancel service and I’m stuck paying for an alarm system on a house I will no longer own.

Jean, same here. There have been so many things NOT caught on the ADT security camera because it was outside of the 30 second recording and has to wait 4 to 5 minutes for a reset. So I had no proof the person actually did what they did even though I personally witnessed it myself. Still since it's not on camera, I have no proof as they will definitely deny it which is the reason for me getting the security camera in the first place.. I'm finding more time lapses as well, such as 30 minute gaps when there was clearly motion going on outside. Guess when that happens, it'll get blamed on the Wifi signal. There are even instances when I have a clip and/or picture, yet nothing is in view; figured the sensor caught it but it was outside of the actual viewing. So I agree with you.

Ask yourself how much did you pay for your TV, Cell phone whatever. ADT and ADT dealers are a business and business make money! Just like lowes, walmart, bestbuy, target and every other business. It’s not a charity. They offer 24 hour protection free replacement, but yes they do charge you a service fee of 25 dollars if your system need to be fixed and it was not do to them. but that covers everything! Even if they had to replace the whole system.
ADT supports a range of other security cameras including indoor cameras should you want one, so you can talk to your technician about different options if the base cam doesn't suit you. Overall, it's been fine for my needs and I'm considering installing another external one at the rear of the house. This is something that'll require a call to ADT and an installation and service charge, but after that, the cam will be fully integrated into the Pulse system. You can even install your own hardware, if you like, though your mileage will vary as to how deeply you'll integrate with ADT's software without help from a company technician.
