The company’s long history in the industry and 24/7 customer support are a great incentive to customers looking for a reliable home security system. Additionally, ADT’s six monitoring centers ensure that in the event that a center goes offline for any reason, the call for help is automatically routed to the next available center. Thus, your family will always be protected.

Then he tells me I get two free sensors with my package and must purchase each additional sensor.  Ordinarily, I would understand this, but when I spoke with the sales rep, he promised 7 sensors with my package at no additional cost.  There’s my third issue.  The sensors are $150 each but you can buy them online for only $30 to $50 and are exactly the same but you have to “learn” them into your panel, which the installers will not do (understandable, sure).
The story: Founded in 1874 by Edward Calahan. They started out as a messenger/alarm service but quickly added fire and local authorities. In 1909, they were purchased by AT&T (a name you surely recognize). Shortly thereafter, AT&T sold ADT again. Fast forward some years to 1969 and ADT went public. In 1984, the were renamed and ten years later passed their one-millionth customer. In 1997, Tyco International Ltd. bought them out and since then they have acquired dozens of Ma & Pa security companies as well as big ones such as Brinks and Broadview Security.
Think of the Basic packages as “monitoring + alarms and sensors” and the Pulse packages as “monitoring + alarms and sensors + home automation.” These ADT monitoring packages range in cost from $27.99 through $58.99 per month; you can add additional equipment and service so everything is customizable to your home. To put that in perspective, ADT costs less than most cable TV packages while potentially saving hundreds, if not thousands, in damages.
ADT may have steep early cancellation fees and long contracts, but it also offers some of the best customer guarantees.* The Theft Protection Guarantee protects you if your home is burglarized while your system is armed—ADT will pay up to $500 of your insurance deductible in that case. The company also offers a six-month money-back guarantee and a mover’s guarantee that keeps you from incurring extra equipment costs if you move after being an ADT customer for at least two years. *Certain terms and restrictions may apply. These guarantees may change at any time, so make sure you check with a representative for more details.
1$99 Customer Installation Charge. 36-Month Monitoring Agreement required at $27.99 per month ($1,007.64). 24-Month Monitoring Agreement required at $27.99 per month ($671.76) for California. Form of payment must be by credit card or electronic charge to your checking or savings account. Offer applies to homeowners only. Offer valid for new ADT Authorized Premier Provider customers only and not on purchases from ADT LLC. Cannot be combined with any other offer. The $27.99 Offer does not include Quality Service Plan (QSP), ADT's Extended Limited Warranty.
I have had ADT service for 5 years. This is after my cabin had a break in. The only problem I have had is the door sensor fell off and I was able to repair this myself. I can arm and disarm the equipment remotely by cellphone. When the alarm went off one time they were very responsive. Customer service advised me how to replace the battery in the key fob. My only complaint is I was given a discount for paying for multiple years in advance and this was not offered in future years. I requested additional yard signs and these were provided at no additional charge. I am satisfied with their service.
A larger security company that continually monitors your home will have a designated station that watches thousands of homes and businesses at once. They cost more because they have to go through verification with the Underwriters Laboratories (UL), an independent, non-profit organization that specializes in testing services and products to ensure maximum reliability and safety.
DIY home security lets you take peace of mind into your own hands with live feeds, mobile alerts, smart home integration — but the sheer number of choices can be overwhelming. We looked for affordable equipment, comprehensive mobile notifications, and flexible professional monitoring to find the DIY home security system that gives you the most control without breaking the bank.

Really disappointed in these cameras. We had outdoor cameras installed and a few weeks later that they record 30 second clips, but after each 30 sec clip the camera is UNABLE TO RECORD for 4 minutes?? So, a bad guy pulls into my property. There's a 30 sec recording of them and then at a critical time there's no recording for 4 minutes? Why is this and how does this make sense??
Known for its innovative home automation features, Vivint offers professional 24/7 monitoring to homes across the U.S. Vivint’s cutting-edge technology includes add-ons like an intuitive smart thermostat, an indoor camera with two-way communication and a garage door control that lets you close it from your smartphone. One major pain point is that Vivint requires long contracts, which can be a problem if you don’t want to be locked into a long-term commitment. But, if you’re fine with a four- or five-year contract, Vivint’s worth a look.
I have always wanted to keep my family and home safe, especially at night. I do not have a guard dog like some of my friends do and I do not find dogs effective. So I decided to do some research and found ADT to be the best choice. They came and thoroughly installed the sensors all throughout my house. They made sure to test the system to see if it was working properly. After that I am pleased with my security system. It is easy to use and we have never had a problem with it. Also, the staff are very friendly. If we have questions they always help us out. We have been safe in our home ever since (no more burglaries).
The initial consultation is your first visit from ADT, and it involves a service rep essentially touring your property, your home's interior, and questioning you about what you need and expect from your home security and automation system. The rep then makes recommendations on what equipment and service tier makes the most sense and sits down with you to go over every component and arrive at a final installation plan and price.
My bill was paid in full till the end of Sept. 2018. I called and canceled service on Sept 20, 2018 after sale of the house. Received a bill in Oct 2018 for $18.49. No detail on the bill only explanation after speaking to Scott is a charge incurred that happens because it takes a month to complete the cancellation process and that is wrote in the contract but I did not remember that being mentioned at the time service was started more than 3 yrs earlier. I was never late with a payment and there was never an alarm. So basically a person would be very wise to set up a DIY service and save a lot of money and getting taken advantage of.
A few min later he comes to me and tells me he’s got bad news and all my stuff is out date. (i thought that was pretty fun because I had looked in the box downstairs before calling and the inside cover clearly had a sticker on it stating it was install about 10 months earlier) I played along… He did his little sales pitch about giving me better stuff and blah blah then he says it’s like $700 to replace what I had as he’s shoving paperwork & a pen at me. I told him he was out of his mind! So then he tells me he’s gonna call his boss and see what he can do, a few minutes later he tells me he can give it to me for free. At this point I’m totally weirded out by the guy and told him I needed time to think and could I call him later. He got totally indignit with me and couldn’t understand what my problem was and that it was free. I asked him to leave and he sat down at my kitchen table! I tried to be very polite but he wouldn’t get up he said he was gonna see what else he could work out or something ridiculous. I left the room and called my neighbor who came over and removed the man from my house. It was absolutely insane!
Remote Control: Instead of using the keypad to deactivate your alarm, some systems do come complete with a remote control. There are some disadvantages to these, however, including the inability to see if your alarm is activated (adding to the risk of you tripping the system), and if the remote is stolen, it provides thieves with an easy way of deactivating your alarm.
We recently had an ADT security system installed in our home and I have had few problems with this company and their rates are great!! My daughter has Vivint at her house and she pays around $30 more a month. I like that Vivint has security cameras and that you can look in your house and adjust temps in your house right on your phone, but I still love my system. What I do not like however is the practices used in my town to get customers to switch from ADT to Vivint.
Vivint has been around since 1999 and is known for its cutting-edge technology. We like the company’s automation features in particular. All of the systems we considered offer some basic features, but Vivint’s were the easiest to use. With the SkyControl panel, Glance display, or mobile app, you can change the temperature on your thermostat, turn your lights on or off, and even have two-way conversations through your security cameras.

Do not use ADT! The salesman was a fast-talking con artist. My husband and I felt pressured to sign a contract without having time to read it. The salesman lied and told us we could cancel anytime. The contract is for 36 months, and if you try to cancel, you have to pay an incredibly large sum of money! Customer service is rude and antagonistic, and the actual alarm service itself is defective. Please don’t make the mistake that we did!

Hello V. We apologize for any confusion regarding your service agreement. Your contract with ADT mandates a $25 trip charge when a technician visits your home, no matter the reason. The notes from your last technician visit indicate that there is an issue with the WiFi range, not upload/download speed. If you would like to schedule service for this issue, please contact ADT at 1-800-238-2727. Thank you. -Gabe
ADT started life in 1867 when Edward A. Calahan, inventor of the stock ticker tape, created the Gold and Stock Telegraph Company and developed a messenger system to deliver instructions to and from the stock exchange. Three years later, company president Elisha Andrews awoke to a burglar in his home, which inspired him to develop a telegraph-based alert system that connected neighborhood homes to a central monitoring station. The idea immediately caught on aand over 50 home alert companies popped up throughout New York City almost immediately. In 1874, Calahan consolidated them into American District Telegraph.
ADT has been the only home security service I've ever seen my family use when I was growing up and now I've installed it in my own home! It's just the perfect home security because it got you covered in 150 places without stress. Their packages are great and the support is always there to clear any confusion so you don't regret any choice. Maybe I'm just lazy and don't care to do further research but it's always worked for me. I don't think they could be a scam if they have 7+ million paying customers.

Form of payment must be by credit card or electronic charge to your checking or savings account. Offer applies to homeowners only. Local permit fees may be required. Yes and no. You're paying that monthly for storage but you have no monitoring setup. No guarantees and other things unique to ADT as well. Security cameras don't act as a full home security system; the two are actually usually bought and used separately. Most people add security camera systems as an added measure of security on top of their monitoring provider. You could go with the basic ADT plan for the alarm system and then add your own camera system (different brand) rather then paying the higher Pulse tier fee. This would be ideal for most people looking to both and still save money in your situation.

Wifi is the basic connect for everything in this modern age. Desktop computers and laptops were started using it to connect to the internet. Then, Kindles, tablets, and smartphones got in on this source of connection for the internet. Now, home security systems are getting in on the wifi connection. Protect America sat down and took a look of the five top picks for wifi home security for 2018. This time, they decided to look at the cameras that use wifi for connectivity. They looked through Tom’s Guide and PC Mag to come up with this list. Why go for a wifi security camera? Tom’s Guide offers an explanation:

ADT Pulse Video – Installation starts at $399. Burglary, Fire, Carbon Monoxide and Medical Alert monitoring requires purchase and/or activation of an ADT security system with monitored Burglary, Fire, Carbon Monoxide and Medical Alert devices. Quality Service Plan (QSP) is ADT’s Extended Limited Warranty. 36-month monitoring contract required from $58.99 per month, ($2,123.64), including Quality Service Plan (QSP).   Additional charges may apply in areas that require guard response service for municipal alarm verification. Prices subject to change. Prices may vary by market. Some insurance companies offer discounts on Homeowner’s Insurance. Please consult your insurance company. Local permit fees may be required. Satisfactory credit history required. Additional monitoring fees required for some services. Photos are for illustrative purposes only and may not reflect the exact product/service actually provided.
Unless you plan on spending $1500 plus starting costs for a high end security system ADT is your best bet. Among all the companies that you can get for $100 in start up costs you might as well go with them. I got a lot of equipment and have a shop on the side of my house (I work from home) and it was easy to get that set up with them too. I got a secondary control panel for my side shop but honestly I just use my phone. My kids have downloaded the app so they can turn it on (green button) and off too so they don't have to know how to work the old panels anymore. So in total, if you're going for the standard set up (low starting costs) alarm system then yes go with these guys over the rest.

Obviously I am not alone with my red flag warning yelp review. ADT is the most known, that is why I was hellbent in getting them, but I wish I read all the reviews before. I accidentally tried to sign up with a 3rd party  Protecters or Defenders, the "authorized ADT salespeople", are the sleaziest, pushy salespeople that took me hostage, almost threatening me that if I didn't sign up immediately, I couldn't ever go back to ADT. But because I did sign up with them, I could not sign up with a REAL ADT salesperson, that completely contradicted everything the ADT authorized salesperson said. An ADT salesperson said they always get complaints on the 3rd parties, because of the bait and switch, and yet you can NEVER get a REAL ADT person to quote you without taking your blood type and personal information and credit card. So I called their competitors and ALL of them were a better experience, you feel you can trust them and they want to do a good job, not just get your credit card and sign you up for a hostage contract. Although I canceled with the 3rd party, I still couldn't go with ADT, which was a blessing because I found ACS security which is far far far better, not pushy, quoted me everything, and they work directly with ASC. Don't ever go with ADT, read all the reviews. Maybe ADT will improve if they read their reviews on them. Shame on them.
ADT very dishonest we was on auto pay and it messed up which put us behind a little we called got it corrected they cancelled our service after telling us they had it worked out we went two days not knowing the service was off no phone calls nothing we found out on a Saturday they wouldn’t talk to us said call back Monday during business hours. They put my family in danger by giving them a false sense of being covered then just no concern wait till Monday. This company is very highly overrated and not trust worthy. I wasted a lot of money and my family is still not safe. Thanks ADT for nothing.
When I moved to Fuquay Varina, they kept calling and knocking on the door until I finally gave in and signed up. Since then - NOTHING - no contact or follow-up whatsoever - even when I've twice requested a new book to replace the one I was given. When I agreed to sign up, they were offering service for about $27.00 per month. When the installer visited, I was sick with a lupus flare that also affected my cognition. Turned out, they took advantage of an elderly, ill woman, charging me not 27 but 47 dollars per month. In addition, when I could think clearly again, I discovered I had signed for THREE years and not the one year the salesman had told me.
Vivint offers a month-to-month contract, but you’ll need to purchase all of your equipment upfront to open up that option. Like most home security companies, Vivint’s equipment can be costly, and paying at least $600 at the time of purchase might not fit into your budget. If you can swing it, however, month-to-month service is more flexible than a long-term contract — and helps you avoid potential termination fees.
Price, Promotion, Processing: Pricing, delivery date and other errors may be withdrawn or revised and/or your order may be cancelled at any time, without prior notice, before we have both (a) shipped or provided access to your product or service, and (b) received your payment for the product or service. All sales on Samsung.com are subject to the full Terms of Sale . Samsung is not responsible for any errors, omissions or misdirected or lost orders, or orders which may be delayed. Samsung reserves the right to modify pricing and modify or cancel promotions at any time, without prior notice.

Vivint Flex Pay gives you the option to purchase your equipment up front with no added monthly cost—and no contract—or to finance the equipment interest-free over a 42- or 60-month contract. We think it’s awesome that Vivint gives you multiple options, but you should know that even though choosing a contract means you pay less upfront, you’ll have to pay 100% of the remaining contract if you cancel early.
GetSafe’s no-contract option offers all of the security with none of the commitment at the same monitoring price as its contract plans. Going with its month-to-month option instead of its one- or three-year contracts doesn’t mean skimping on service, either. You still get helpful features like push and email notifications, system updates, and a homeowners insurance discount. (Note: If you choose a no-contract plan, you’ll have to buy your equipment outright. GetSafe’s one- and three-year plans come with a starter kit and a hardware credit for additional equipment.)

Like all home security companies, ADT offers a number of different packages to choose from. In addition to monthly monitoring costs, you also need to consider equipment costs, activation fees, installation costs, and the extra expense of any upgrades you select. Because ADT offers so many options and upgrades, it’s easy to end up with a customized ADT package that is more expensive than its competitors. Just be sure to keep a tally as you work with an ADT security pro to put together the right package for your home. If budget constraints are a factor, let your representative know up-front how much you can afford.
Glenn Kurtzrock, a criminal defense attorney and former homicide prosecutor, told us that based on his experience, most burglars “go for the master bedroom and won’t waste time in rooms like a kid’s room.” He explained that “burglars don’t like to spend a lot of time in a house regardless of whether there’s a security system” so will prioritize the rooms most likely to have cash, jewelry, or small electronics. Having a video camera that films the entrance to your master bedroom can help provide video evidence for the police should a crime occur.
Our ADT monitoring services also provides almost instant notification to both you and emergency personnel when your security has been breached. Following the ADT security installation process, when an alarm is triggered, a signal is sent from your home or business to one of the home security professionals at ADT. The ADT-monitored security professional then alerts you to the possible security breach, along with the police, fire department or emergency personnel.
