My father, age 75, contacted ADT to switch to their service based on an advertised offer. He explained to the customer service representative he had Vonage for his phone service. The customer service rep. said she was not sure if the system could be installed without a landline. She scheduled the appointment and told my father to ask the technician. I seems odd that the customer service representative could not speak to my father’s situation, since it is not uncommon. As directed,my father asked the technician about installing the service with Vonage. He further explained the package he was expecting to be installed. The technician stated “I got you”. The technician then proceeded to install a thousand dollar system. When my father would not agree to the monthly payment, the technician got his supervisor on the phone to apply more pressure. When my father would not agree to pay the monthly fees associated with the system installed, the supervisor directed the technician to take the system out. The technician removed the ADT equipment but refused to reconnect my father’s existing equipment. Now my father has to pay for a service call and reinstallation of his previous service. My father is on a fixed income and does not have money to spare. I am thankful the he has his wits about him and did not yield to undue sales pressure. Shame on you ADT!!!!
We hope that ADT continues to provide an excellent service and that if we decide to go with a different provider in the future, I hope that we shall not be writing a review to complain about poor communication or any other negative aspect regarding this company. P.S. Many complaints seem to originate from the United States – we live in Canada … I wonder if this a factor.
ADT utilizes a nationwide network of authorized dealers as well as their own personnel to sell, install and support ADT security system. The dealer network allows ADT to maintain a local presence for their customers while providing the stability and service capabilities of a large, national security provider. However, it can also lead to an inconsistent experience for customers and negative customer reviews. Online customer reviews typically revolve around issues with local dealers and include missed appointments, aggressive upselling and misrepresentation.

There are many points at which a home security company can disappoint its customers. This may account for the large number of critical comments about ADT security systems. Customers complain about undisclosed fees, prices that are sharply higher than quoted, punitive cancellation policies, relentless upselling, incompetent technicians, malfunctioning and obsolete equipment, and poor customer service. A minority of commenting customers, however, are very satisfied with the service.
After the pricing ding, there's the service contract. Competitors, like SimpliSafe, have no contract and let you out of your service whenever you want. ADT signs you to a three-year contract. If you were to move during your contract period, but opt to keep the service, ADT would install a basic system at your new home for $249 and let you add components at a 25 percent discount until you hit $750 worth of hardware. After that, you'd pay full price for additional hardware. You could attempt to uninstall some of the components at your old home and move them to your new one and ADT would incorporate those, but whatever is left in the old house after you leave, ADT will simply try to resell to the next owner.

Vivint has been around since 1999 and is known for its cutting-edge technology. We like the company’s automation features in particular. All of the systems we considered offer some basic features, but Vivint’s were the easiest to use. With the SkyControl panel, Glance display, or mobile app, you can change the temperature on your thermostat, turn your lights on or off, and even have two-way conversations through your security cameras.
Install was performed by subcontractor and done wrong. ADT charged me again to have someone else do it right, still isn’t correct. Cars were broken into which had two cameras on them and didn’t record any of it. The cameras only record 30 second increments with 2 minutes in between, I’m guessing criminals also know this. Contract end date keeps changing, further and further out. Avoid ADT at all cost. There’s much cheaper services out there that actually work.
The ADT Pulse system was just what I was looking for. The control and app is very fluid (meaning smooth). Camera quality is much higher than any security cameras (such as Swann or Nest) that my friends have, and then you can have one company across all your home automation platforms. Best to do it this way then having to login separate apps for your home security & cameras. Installation was quick and the tech explained everything, better than a DIY option which is becoming the trend.
SimpliSafe’s new equipment also pairs with select smart home devices like the Nest Thermostat and August Locks. Additionally, it syncs with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which means you can now control your SimpliSafe system via voice commands. Just as with the redesigned equipment, this home automation update puts it in league with competitors — particularly those with DIY installation. Wow, I am blown away here. Did anyone read the ad you got in the mail, on the internet? Did you listen to the recording when you called in? It say’s free setup of 2 door sensors, 1 motion sensor and 1 keyless remote. NO WHERE does it say they cover all of your windows extra doors ect at no extra charge. These are all upgrades you can add to your account just like a smart phone VS a little flip phone or a neon VS a viper. You pay for what you get. You are getting 99 dollars worth. They have to pay for the parts, pay the installer pay for the advertising ( That flyer you called in on is not free)
