The ADT Traditional tier offers only theft and burglary protection hardware, while the Remote tier builds on that to include fire, smoke, and CO2 detection. The Remote tier includes the ability to arm and disarm your alarm via the web, receive email and text alerts, and adds the use of CellGuard backup, which provides a cell-based data and communications link in case your primary internet fails. The Control tier takes everything from the previous tiers and adds the basics of home automation, including climate control, lighting and appliance control, an upgraded touch-screen keypad, and remote (smart) door locks. Finally, the Video tier adds real-time video security and other optional extras like additional keypads if needed.
Hello Florin-We have identified the account with the information provided in your review. The installation was sold and performed by an independent authorized ADT dealer, Defender security. Should you need to reach them in the interim, you can do so at 1-800-689-9554. Should you need to reach ADt, please email us at AlwaysThere@adt.com. Thank you for your patience. -Gabe
When it comes to home security I'm a basic kind of guy. I just want it to know if someone breaks in my house so I can have my gun ready and protect my family. I use ADT, it seems the most logical and they have treated me great. I moved once with them which cost a little money but they installed the new Pulse system at my new place since I was due for an upgrade to cellular anyways. I don't do the cameras etc. but I do turn it on and off from my phone and that is easy with their ADT app.

Home automation may not be something you’ve considered, but many home security providers offer it with higher-tier packages. Not everyone needs complete control over their lights, locks, and robovac, but home automation comes in handy if you travel frequently or desire complete convenience. Before choosing a home security package, think about your smart home needs and if this technology may be something you’ll want in the future.
Like many other entry sensors in the kits on this list, these little devices are made up of two pieces connected by a magnet. Attach the alarm to your window or door (one piece on the door, one on the frame) and when an intruder opens it, the magnetic connection separates and triggers a 100dB alarm. Reviewers love this product for its easy installation and budget-friendly price tag.

Hey Jean., We suggest always testing them after getting them setup. Playback previous days data and make sure you can pinpoint certain times. Not sure this was so much the ADT Camera's fault as it was not ensuring everything was hooked up and recording from the git go. You should do this with any security camera / home security system you get. There is also a testing phase you can request where for 3 days they won't call the police if the alarm is set so you can go through and test all of the aspects (motion, window sensors and more).

With six co-located, fully redundant monitoring centers in different regions of the country, the ability to overtake monitoring almost every other security system and with all the industry accolades and accreditations possible, ADT continues to be a great option for many. It’s important to make sure you fully understand the system you are getting and who you are working with. Whether it’s ADT corporate, or Protect Your Home, their largest and most successful and widely recommended authorized dealer, be sure you understand exactly what you are getting, what you will be paying, and what the terms of your agreement mean.
We’re big fans of mobile access because it’s what home security is for—knowing your home is safe at any time and doing something about it when it’s threatened. Most companies now allow you to control your system this way from a keychain remote controller, mobile device (iOS or Android mostly), or web-based app for ease of use and distant check-ins.
In the end, I wouldn’t say they are a scam, but I would say they are highly overpriced for what you get, and they seem to want to take advantage of any situation they can (single females, older people, parents who aren’t willing to have a weapon in the home).  The techs didn’t seem to be the most knowledgable either.  I’ve since spoken with SecureWatch who has guaranteed enough sensors for all of my doors (not just some) and several windows on the back of my house (all I really wanted) for only the $99 install fee plus taxes! Their monthly rate for the same service is also $5 less a month.  The tech has already been out to check out the house and see what I need and made some very helpful suggestions about security in general.  He didn’t try to upsell everything in his vehicle either.
ADT uses a hard-wired home security system which communicates with the monitoring station through a landline telephone connection; however, customers can also add a cellular backup to a hardwired system or pay an additional fee to use cellular communication as the primary monitoring. ADT maintains six monitoring centers in different regions of the country. With multiple co-locations and system redundancies, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring in the event of any individual facility outages. ADT offers a wide selection of security equipment and devices. ADT Pulse provides additional equipment and services to support advanced security functions as well as home automation. The control panel uses the Z-Wave platform for wireless communication with sensors and smart devices. ADT Pulse is also compatible with IFTTT (If This Then That) and integrates with Nest Learning Thermostat. The company also offers a Smart Voice Sounder that calls out “fire” or “intruder” based on what sensor has sounded the alarm, and temperature and flood sensors that can protect against water damage from burst pipes. Its ADT Pulse, Smart Home offerings include remote door locks, appliance control, and cameras.
The only major downside to Pulse is price and its three-year service contract. When compared with other players, like Vivint or Frontpoint, the pricing structure is similar in that there's an upfront installation cost you can pay all at once or spread across the first three months, and then a monthly cost for maintenance and monitoring. If you compare only prices published on the web, then ADT Pulse looks very competitive. But in practice, if you opt for the higher end of the tiering scale and a modified system with a bunch of devices that aren't included in a basic tier package (and ADT will steer you that way), your price will quickly balloon. In my case, I wound up with an excellent all-around solution, but an eyebrow-arching upfront cost of $3,276.79 and a monthly charge of $63.89, which makes Pulse the most expensive solution we've tested to date.

Scout doesn’t have as many extra features as some other alarm systems, but if you currently have a Nest Learning Thermostat or a Nest Cam, you’ll love this new, modern take on home security. Scout offers the lowest monthly monitoring price we’ve seen for cellular monitoring at $9.99 a month, but keep in mind that it’s not connected to a professional monitoring center unless you upgrade to $19.99.
A few of our favorite providers allow you to DIY your alarm system installation, while others send a professional to do the task. Professional installation allows for a home security expert to evaluate your home’s security needs and educate you on how to best utilize your system. The drawback is that professional installation often involves an additional fee. When you opt to DIY, the process is typically quicker and you can avoid any appointment-scheduling acrobatics.
The Samsung SmartThings ADT Home Security Starter Kit is compatible with both Alexa and Google Home, as well as Zigbee and Z-Wave communication protocols. The SmartThings ADT Home Security Starter Kit also works with smart devices from the following brands: Philips Hue, Ring, Arlo, Ecobee, Honeywell, Bose and more. (Not compatible with NEST, Sonos, D-Link, and Blink devices.) Ensure every inch of your home is covered with the Samsung SmartThings ADT Home Safety Expansion Pack or add to your smart home with individual accessory devices such as the SmartThings Carbon Monoxide Alarm, SmartThings Water Leak Detector, and the SmartThings Smoke Alarm as you need them!
When pairing your security system with smart features, the app enables a whole host of home control. You can alter home temperatures when the smart thermostat is too many stairs away or if you’re on vacation and want to monitor energy consumption. With smart locks, you can automate your doors to lock on a schedule and sync your alarm with your door’s entry pad (so when you enter the unlock pin, your alarm system will disarm, too).
As mentioned, SimpliSafe updated its equipmentto enhance its already reliable features and to offer a streamlined design on par with security companies like GetSafe and Frontpoint. The new system has twice the range of the original and is “five times faster” in communicating with other equipment. SimpliSafe also reinforced the system’s back-up cellular connection so that it’s even more secure. Though we haven’t tested the new SimpliSafe equipment just yet, the advancements are promising and innovate on a system that was solid to begin with.
Iris has quite a few flaws, as you can see below in the list of cons, which is why it isn’t higher on the list. But if you’re looking for a system that will integrate with tons of other home automation products and smart devices, Iris may be right for you. It comes with both Zigbee and Z-Wave compatibility, so it can be connected to a huge list of devices.
November 6th 2018, I had the worst experience with a customer service manager who works for account management in Jacksonville, Florida. She was so nasty with me and spoke to me with so much attitude and no respect. She was not polite, nor did she mention her name when asked. I had to get her name from another representative the next day. I also asked her to read her notes so that she can familiarize herself with my situations and how many times I have been in contact with her department and she refused to do so. Porsha Fisher abruptly hung up on me out of frustration and also sent me a bill for over 1000$ out of frustration and threatened to send me to the debt collection agency.
All ADT plans feature 24/7 security monitoring from multiple redundant call centers nationwide (which is key for that homeowners insurance discount), on-site consultation, installation by professional technicians, and 24/7 customer service. ADT makes a big deal out of that last one, considering it a competitive differentiator. Smaller monitored security vendors, like Frontpoint, may offer 24/7 monitoring, but its customer service is unavailable after a certain point in the evening. For issues like broken monitoring equipment, faulty alarms, and similar problems, having a human available around the clock can be a very good thing.

A new ADT Customer will be able to take advantage of its lowest monitoring plan (Traditional) at $28.99 per month, however, this plan does not come with free equipment installation or the extended limited warranty. You will be required to sign a 36-month monitoring contract (24-month if you are a resident of California) which is unfortunate if you become dissatisfied with the alarm system after the 6-month money-back guarantee period.
At $44.99 a month with a one-time fee for installation and equipment, you can get ADT’s basic wireless system. This includes three entryway contacts and a PIR motion sensor that is monitored 24/7 by ADT’s monitoring centers. It also includes accessories like a keychain remote control, a digital keypad, high-decibel alarm, yard and window signs, and battery backup.
Very happy with ADT. I bought an investment property and decided to get an alarm system installed during the five months the property was being renovated. After talking to an ADT representative, I decided to go with them. Things were a little different getting it setup since it wasn't my primary residence but they were able to secure it. It was nice not having to worry about someone breaking in and stealing tools or doing damage to it while it was being renovated.
Hello Nessa Ann. Defender Security is an independent authorized dealer of ADT's monitoring service. They procure and maintain their own customer base, and sell and install their own equipment. They partner with ADT, as Defender does not provide a monitoring service. Should you have any concerns regarding a recent Defender installation, they can be contacted directly at 1-800-689-9554. Should you need anything further from ADT, we would encourage you to contact us at AlwaysThere@adt.com. Thank you. -Gabe

Today my husband discovered the source! Someone (probably me) had accidentally activated a notification on the satellite radio to beep every time a particular artist was playing on one of the channels! We are happy and relieved to know that a) it is not ADT, b) that we can set up satellite radio to do just that, but c) if we had known about this ability we would certainly not have chosen Beyonce!!!

Alarms, camera, motion sensors and more – the options are endless when it comes to keeping tabs on what’s happening in your home. You can now have peace of mind all at the touch of a button. Best part is, you can install most of this automated home security technology yourself, so you don’t need to shell out thousands to a security installation company or contractor.
Millions of people use ADT alarm systems to protect their homes every day. It’s by far the most popular provider in the nation. But what makes it so popular? ADT has been around longer than any other security company, with 140 years of experience. It uses locally authorized resellers to sell and install its products, which allows ADT to cover more areas of the country. It’s also got multiple monitoring centers running 24/7 to help prevent any kind of service outage. That’s not to say other companies don’t do the same thing; ADT just does it on a larger scale. Because of the local vendors, your experience with ADT will vary greatly based on your location.

We’re big fans of mobile access because it’s what home security is for—knowing your home is safe at any time and doing something about it when it’s threatened. Agreed Nadia! For around $1 a day is a bargain to protect your family members and your possessions. Obviously an alarm system doesn't give you 100% confidence that a burglary won't take place but it minimizes the chances over 75% by having a monitored system. That is good to hear about your businesses and sounds like you will get a great deal on the 3rd set on your home. ADT also has the guarantees so if something does take place you have them and your insurance who are going to support you financially in recouping your lost costs.
So since the guy was already there i was friendly and greeted him but explained i had canceled and was no longer looking for security at the moment due to some issues. He stated he couldn't leave until his boss gave him permission. His boss(ADAM)  was very rude and told him to just leave the security system on my counter and to leave and that i wasn't receiving a refund  (YET I DIDN'T EVEN RECEIVE INSTALLATION NOR DID HE EVEN TAKE OUT THE SYSTEM OUT OF HIS CAR)  When i told him(Adam) My husband was on deployment and wasn't moving in until January ADAM kept pushing it on me after telling him NO several times. He states he already had a cancellation and couldn't receive another cancellation for the day. THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. They instillation person was very nice but stayed at my house (inside) for 2 hours. I Had to speak to 4 different people just to cancel and have the tech person to leave.  It was the worst experience of customer service i have EVER experienced. ADT does not care about you only their money. WILL NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!! SCAM

ADT made some changes to the Pulse app in early 2018. While the UI seems to have gotten a little friendlier, which is always welcome, it temporarily removed one important feature that I missed: cloud storage for my camera view. The camera doesn't have a great track record of performance (see below), but when it worked, I liked having the 30-second clips of whatever video it took available for viewing through the Pulse app. That's been moved to an easily-missed "Clips" button, so be careful to examine the UI closely as new features come out or get deprecated. What you miss might not actually be gone.
