A good company will show genuine interest in providing you with a solution that fits your needs. I am a single mother and the "security system" I have received is a necessity. I do not feel safe which is the entire reason I went with a home security system. I know others who have the service without a land line paying $36.99 no problem, yet ADT claims they don’t do that. Total garbage and lies. So now the monthly monitoring fee is up to $48.99 for wireless. However if you speak with their customer service, they will bring that down to $44.99/month and offer $300 in gift cards to make up the difference between the $48.99 and the $36.99 as promised. It’s all such a set up.

The pros are excellent-quality 1080p video, weatherproof, rechargeable batteries, supports IFTTT and Alexa voice commands, pre-buffered video recording, continuous recording capabilities, and free and subscription-based cloud storage. The cons are expensive, requires hub (included), and many features are only available when plugged in.
If you were asked to name security companies, ADT would likely be one of the first to come to your mind. As the largest and oldest home security company in the United States, it has monitoring stations across the country and sells a variety of security devices and surveillance cameras. Most other home security businesses compare themselves to ADT because of this dominance. Though ADT has good security camera options, it isn't as transparent about its prices and packages as other home surveillance services.
After the pricing ding, there's the service contract. Competitors, like SimpliSafe, have no contract and let you out of your service whenever you want. ADT signs you to a three-year contract. If you were to move during your contract period, but opt to keep the service, ADT would install a basic system at your new home for $249 and let you add components at a 25 percent discount until you hit $750 worth of hardware. After that, you'd pay full price for additional hardware. You could attempt to uninstall some of the components at your old home and move them to your new one and ADT would incorporate those, but whatever is left in the old house after you leave, ADT will simply try to resell to the next owner.

Also, don't expect ADT to listen to your complaint.  You won't get past helpdesk support. They suggest you write a letter if you want to speak to anyone higher that helpdesk.  A LETTER!, what century does this company live in. They must all drive to work using a Horse and Buggy. I knew at that point this wasn't the type of company that could provide me with the type of advanced security system you would expect in the 21st century.

I am very upset with my ADT experience and contract. Your sales rep Daehan J gave me inadequate information regarding your ADT service and contract. I was very upfront and concerned about switching from Safenet to ADT because I was planning on moving the following year. He ASSURED me that the move of equipment, install and monitoring fees would not incur additional charges! He also did NOT disclose that there was a 36 month contract or an early termination fee. If I was properly informed of incurring additional charges for my move, I would NOT have switched security companies as my contract with Safenet was complete. In order for me to set up a new security monitoring system at my new place of residence, I received an estimate for $461. I discussed with Brad B, another sales rep of ADT corporate and he did help bring down the price but not after over 3 hours of 6 different customer services representatives. I am not pleased with your company nor ADT. Even though Daehan was working for an “authorized ADT dealer”, he is still representing the ADT BRAND.

 With a founding date of 1874, ADT is probably the most mature player in the smart home security market. While it's still building the home automation portion of its services portfolio, its Pulse system is both secure and sophisticated. But while the company does a great job treating its customers well on a service front, it's important to note that the Pulse system is neither DIY or cheap.

The Ring and the Nest thermostats also use my home Verizon Fios-based Wi-Fi network as their primary path to the Internet. All the other devices either don't need my internet or are connected via cabled connections through my Fios router (you'll only need one port open) and their own wireless connectivity tied to the Z-Wave controller ADT installed in my basement. If the primary internet goes down, the CellGuard backup system kicks in, and every device has battery backup in case the power goes out. The Ring and Nest devices, however, are Wi-Fi-only, and this posed a problem for the Ring as my front door proved a pretty effective wireless signal killer. Initially, the Ring only worked about 20 percent of the time. ADT, however, immediately ordered and, a few days later, installed a Ring range extender, that solved the problem. I also could have ordered this myself or simply augmented my Wi-Fi network signal strength (which I've done since), but I wanted to see what ADT would do on its own first.
Also, ADT does have medical backup features like pendants and other helpful tools for those who may not be able to get to the phone in case of an accident or injury. The worst service! I just moved in to my home not even 2 months and my home was broken into, I was told one thing when I purchased services and when Safe Haven their contract dealers came, it was something totally different. The burglar came through the windows cause no motion sensor where there, and the screen was broken to the main box! When the tech came out he told me I was not covered and I had to pay 400 dollars up front or buy 1100 dollars worth of equipment in order to protect my home that I pay them every month to monitor. I have been a loyal ADT customer for thirty years. I had decided to upgrade my security in November of 2017 by adding security cameras. I had it in my mind to buy the DVR system before my security sales associate came out to my home to evaluate my very specific needs. She came and I showed her my Verizon flaw that put us at risk with our system. Explained to her that the hard wire for the telephone could easily be cut and our old system would not be able to communicate with adt monitoring. We agreed to upgrade to a wireless system equipment to solve this problem. I paid for this to be done.I also told her we wanted to purchase a camera system and relayed all the reasons why and what specifically we needed. She made the recomendation to purchase from ADT the pulse camera system. We were told about the thirty second clips with two details left out. The detail about the camera going offline after EVERY thirty second clip for FOUR MINUTES, that at times is actually NINE MINUTES of no recording. The camera is asleep missing anything that happens. Any person on earth can google ADT REVIEWS and learn of this FLAW. YES that includes the burglars, murderers and rapists. It is not a secret. I did not look at the reviews until I noticed this flaw until I actually was missing an event. I trusted ADT. My sales associate told me that the camera would record each event as long as there was motion. She did not tell me about the sleepy time camera ever. So I’ll back up to the actual install day. So install day comes and the guy puts up the first camera and I notice that the housing of the base of the camera does not cover up the wire. It is completely exposed and can be cut by anyone. I told him this was unacceptable and he called the office and informed me that I needed the dome cameras instead. Now I have to say that I don’t understand why this sales person sold me these cameras in the first place. I took her outside and showed her the exposed verzion wire and told her how upset I was that anyone could cut this and my system would no longer communicate with adt monitoring. At this point, the tech made a new appointment for a tech to come out and switch out, to the dome cameras where the wire is protected under a housing and can not be easily cut if installed in the eve of a one story house. He finished up the install wiring and the install of my ring front door camera. He closed up the closet where he had been working and said goodbye and left. Next day we go out and set our alarm. We come back and our alarm code no longer was accepted. Alarm goes off. We could not get it to respond. When I opened up the closet to look at my alarm panel the door was unlocked and open with wires hanging loose all over the place. A computer device was attached to these wires and for the life of me I thought we had been robbed by the mission impossible crew. We called ADT and a lady had to walk me thru removing the battery from the alarm system to get it to stop the alarm. I’ll also mention that they did not receive a signal at all for this alarm event. So service day comes and the technician arrives and opens up the door to the system and could not believe what he was seeing. He asked why the previous tecnitiins test equipment was there still. He said he had changed our alarm code and had left our system in test mode. Great........ I fall safe already.... not! After he corrected all that mess and the replacement dome cameras were installed, One of the dome cameras was malfunctioning the very next day and we had to make another appointment to have that one replaced. Now they are working. The visibility is great. The night vision is great. BUT the thirty second clip is for the birds. That thirty second clip turns into a twenty five second clip when you notice that the camera actually backs up each clip a few seconds and shows you at first nothing and then includes the nothing in the thirty second clock. So basically if you have a slow murderer or robber you will only get a clip of them for twenty five seconds and then the recording will stop and you will actually get nothing of the crime. It’s POiNTLESS with a THREE YEAR CONTRACT and if you don’t figure it out before three days that you’ve been sold a piontless camera system that was intentionally designed and manufactured this way, you are up the creek without a paddle or in this case no video footage of the actual crime. Needless to say I’m very dissatisfied with my security sales consultant recommended system purchase. Based on the fact that she knew ahead of time what events were happening around my property and why I needed a camera system in the first place. This Pulse system has alot of bells and whistles but I did not opt for those for automating my house. I only wanted the cameras to capture crime events. Not partially and not on a time clock. I would also like to add that she also sold me a ring front door bell system. This system opened my eyes to the fact that technology exists that does not hobble you into a pointless purchase of a disfunctional system Ring captures every motion activated event without delay with clips. It stores them in the cloud for only thirty dollars a year. WITH SOUND It also has a free app for your phone, your computer, your iPad, your husbands phone. It notifies you every time someone rings your doorbell or moves I front of it with controllable zones. Way to go RING! You can answer that call on your device of choice and talk to that person while recording the video and conversation before and after you answer the ring. So I have to say, what’s the point in buying ADT’s cameras at all. Just install RING flood motion lights with cameras built in and doorbells front and back and be done with it. No contract. No SLeepy TIME missing events No lies by omission, or missing facts. No lack of customer satisfaction or attempts to make it right. Loyal customer no longer loyal!
I've been pleased with their customer support for the 2 years I have had an ADT alarm system installed into my home. What I like is from the research I have done separate of this review, ADT has not raised their monthly price in years. I guess because it effects so many people nationwide if they do, it tends to be a stable price. Much better than going with a company who runs promotions and 6 months later you are paying double for what you initially agreed upon.

ADT monitoring has yet to let me down even with my little kids around the home. I only got a basic security system so I can't really compare or say it's better than "X" company but definitely works for a mother of 4 who wants some added peace to her life! My husband is gone a lot and he likes being able to check what's going on in and outside of the home thru the Pulse monitoring app. This is how I got him to buy the system for us in the first place ;).

While not as flexible if you want to take a minimalist or independent approach to security, but appealing if you want the extra perks.
Beware of these cheaters (ADT). I used their service for 10+ years…their service has been declining day by day. They don’t care about existing customers. First you pay a lot for the equipment and then after one year warranty period, they charge you for any failure/visit.Also, Police doesn’t even respond to their calls in majority of California cities (don’t know about other states)Finally, I decided to switch to a ‘better’ option, and I called to cancel. First they tried to convince me to stay with ADT, and later when it didn’t work, they informed me it will take 30 days to disconnect my service (so they can charge another month of monitoring fee).What a ripoff !Keep a distance from them.

It's hard to beat the biggest and best. I started out with Guardian but worked my way over to ADT for practical reasons. Lots of companies aren't nation wide so if you have to move (like we do my husband is in the military) it is too much of a pain to try and get out of contract etc. My advice is go with a national company so you don't have to pay any early termination fees.

When my contract with ADT expired, I contacted the company to disconnect my service, which they did, but they continued taking the monthly payment from my checking account. When I contacted the company, they advised that they owed me $424.23, and that they would reimburse. That was EIGHT years ago, and I haven’t gotten a cent. I’ve contacted the company numerous times, and they give me different stories each time. They’ll tell me that they sent the money to Illinois unclaimed funds- which they hadn’t, I checked. Recently, I spoke with a representative of ADT, followed up by a manager. The rep stated that she has numerous notes showing my attempts to get MY money back. The manager basically said that I was owed the money, and after a brief hold, advised that they owed me nothing. It’s been 8 years!! I think I’ve been more than accommodating. I’ve also kept notes, recording dates, times, names, and the info discussed. ADT you’re the theif that I need protection from.

The Safewatch Pro 3000en control panels can act as your system's central nervous system, but if you're anything like me, you'll quickly wind up using the Pulse mobile app for that. Still, the control panel is a sophisticated piece of equipment. It supports a series of arm and disarm codes for Away, Stay, Night-Stay, and Disarmed, with additional modes available if you work with the ADT technician. It has direct Police and Fire buttons, meaning even if there isn't an alarm going off, pressing one of these buttons will connect you to an ADT call center and the operator will immediately dispatch the emergency service. There's a Chime mode that alerts people in the home if external doors are opened. You get one of these at the Control pricing tier and two at the Video pricing tier, but, again, you're not really limited by those numbers. You can add more if your home needs them.


ADT is a trusted name, which is what keeps them at the top of the security game. However, there are a lot of new players that are giving ADT a run for their money. If you want home security that comes with years of experience and expertise—this company has had more than 140 years to hone its home security know-how—ADT is a solid choice. But costly packages and upgrades can put ADT out of reach for some home security shoppers.
I contacted ADT twice. The first time simply as a customer, since I'd just moved into a new house and wanted a full home security system. ADT sales recommended its Remote tier, and I agreed, though there are other tiers to be had (see below). I also investigated SimpliSafe, but had a not-great experience with its customer service, and was heading back to ADT when the opportunity arose to review the Pulse system for PCMag.

Their security has a major loop-hole that could get you killed or your house could burn down and no one will ever be called. 1. If your home phone line goes down the word “communication” shows up. And that’s it. No call to secondary phones, nothing! That single word with no other warning as to what it means is all they do. We have had our ADT system for a month now. I researched two companies prior to choosing ADT: Vector and ADT.  Vector pushed the leased systems and didn’t want to do window contacts (just glass break and motion sensors).  ADT would sell me the system (I would own it) and would do door contacts, window contacts, glass break and a motion sensor.  Since I knew the ADT name and liked the fact that they would do the window contacts, I chose to go with ADT.  (Same prices from both companies.)

I loved have the security of the ADT system. We had it in our old home before we moved! I was very secure when we were in the house and had the alarm on. I was comfortable leaving our home with the system armed and felt my home and household contents were safe. We had the system for more than 10 years and had no problems. A few battery replacements was all. They called every time we had a false alarm, which was usually our error. I loved the feature of the disarming the system but entering a trouble code. That made me feel extra secure. ADT kept my family safe and our house secure.
We had the worst time when we moved. It's a really long story, but the cliff notes version is that they said it would be an easy transfer and offered approx $400 worth in services. The control box and the keypad device both came with nearly dead batteries. 2 separate occasions they started beeping in the middle of the night. I bought $2k+ of equipment after being told that the equipment was transferable to a new residence since I was installing it in a rental residence I did not own. It was explicitly explained that I was renting and would be moving within 3 years and was promised I could take all equipment with me to be installed in another home. When I moved I was informed that the equipment cannot be transferred but that a $500 moving credit is given, however the new home I was moving into had "a better system" and the $500 credit would cover the little bit of equipment I was missing to give me an "even better system" than I had in the previous home. New contract was signed based on this. No new equipment was installed - turns out the only existing equipment was a couple of door sensors and hard wired alarm pads, which were not used. There are no sensors on windows or 3 of the 5 doors. My last home had over ten window sensors and 5 door sensors as well as 2 alarm pads at entry doors. Now I have two doors protected and one alarm pad that can only be used in a room that is not a primary entry point and would require me to run across the house to disarm every time I enter my home. It is a 3 year contract that has to be paid in full so I am now paying for services for 3 years that cannot be used and were sold under completely false pretenses. The company refuses to deliver what was promised and continues to try to get me to buy more equipment to get what i already paid for. What's more is that I had a 3 year contract in the previous home that they reassigned to another 3 year contract after having already fulfilled 2 years of the first contract - this is not what was explained to me, I was told the new contract was for the 1 year difference. I either have to cough up $800+ to cancel the contract or continue to pay for monitoring on equipment not installed.
