All in all, I'd have to say that this is a decent setup. It's a basic security system that is easy to install and that my wife can easily operate. There are a few quirks that I'm not clear as to whether they are solvable or not, but these don't appear to impact functionality. It performs the basic tasks that it's supposed to perform in an apparently reliable manner, so far.
I upgraded from ADT basic after 8 years to ADT Pulse and it feels like a whole new company and equipment. I went from having to enter my keycode into the panel to now being able to use the Pulse app from our phones and tablets and having live access through the cameras anytime. It cost about $15 more a month than what I was paying but we got rid of the land line and are loving it. Get what you think you might want ahead of time so you don't have to pay to upgrade later. They have good deals and promo's as well.
GetSafe offers excellent customer support both during and after the purchasing process. Customer reviews note that customer service reps are helpful when explaining products and packages, as well as quick to troubleshoot equipment issues. Along with great service, SimpliSafe also includes regular software updates and enhancements, so you can rest easy knowing your equipment is up to date.

As the largest and most well-known brand in home security, ADT has a lot to offer homeowners looking for a professionally installed security solution from a company that has been part of the industry since the beginning. They continue to innovate and improve, taking advantage of technological advances and evolving their product offering to meet the needs of modern homeowners. ADT has recently made significant strides in the connected home space as the home automation market continues to expand. ADT’s Canopy® is a new professional monitoring service designed to support their partnerships and integrations with smart home devices and ecosystems such as Samsung’s SmartThings (as well as their smart watch, the S2), Nest and LG. ADT Pulse Home security also continues to evolve with the addition of voice command capabilities and the company’s partnership with IFTTT allows ADT Pulse users even more ways to interact and control their home environment and security system.
With professional monitoring, a monitoring service keeps an eye on the status of your alarm system and will contact you within minutes of an alarm to confirm if it’s a true emergency. If so, they’ll dispatch the police or other services for you. If you don’t pick up, most companies will call whomever you’ve designated as your emergency contact. If there’s still no response, they’ll typically dispatch the police.
ADT’s service is made of up equipment backed by monitoring. Their equipment is primarily made by Honeywell and DSC, two of the largest home security equipment manufacturers. The base of the system is the control panel; ADT typically uses the DCS PC 1500RK keypad or a PC 1500. The control panel communicates with sensors which are organized into zones and can protect different areas of your home. They offer PIR motion detectors, smoke detectors, heat sensors, glass break detectors, external sirens, indoor sounders, home security cameras, reed switches, and more. One of the most convenient devices is the key fob, which allows you to arm and disarm your home security system with the click of a button. The High-Decibel Alarm Siren is also worth mentioning; it signals not only threats from intruders but also fire and carbon monoxide.
Once you own the equipment, you can move ADT home security monitoring to just about anywhere in the US and all you’ll have to do is pay a small activation fee (which you may even be able to get waived) to get it started up again. ADT also offers discounted equipment with its “Mover’s Guarantee,” so there’s no need to worry if you want the service but don’t plan on staying in the same spot.
Security camera service with ADT requires Pulse Video Service monitoring, which is a premium-level plan, so you'll have to pay one of the top prices to get a camera. The outdoor camera has a night-vision range of 25 feet, which is one of the lowest in our review. We could find no mention of pan-and-tilt cameras or image sensors in the ADT marketing literature. These are some of the best home monitoring camera options, because you can control pan-and-tilt cameras remotely to get better viewing angles, and image sensors take photos when they detect movement.
As mentioned above, wireless security cameras are easier to install than the wired alternative. Wired cameras must connect to your home’s electrical system, so you’ll need to hire a professional for the installation. Wireless cameras rely on Wi-Fi or other networks. Follow the instructions, and you can set up and connect most cameras in less than thirty minutes.
We had our home broken into some years ago, but today, I once again feel robbed, preyed upon and vulnerable.. This time, it is the service we choose for peace of mind that have taken from us, Xfinity security. They have a plethora of things wrong with them and I could go on and on. Needless to say I am sad I switched from ADT to them and will go back to ADT as soon as I find a way out of their contract.
I've been pleased with their customer support for the 2 years I have had an ADT alarm system installed into my home. What I like is from the research I have done separate of this review, ADT has not raised their monthly price in years. I guess because it effects so many people nationwide if they do, it tends to be a stable price. Much better than going with a company who runs promotions and 6 months later you are paying double for what you initially agreed upon.
Keeping tabs on who is at the door, whether you're home or not, is key to your safety. The latest version of this model lets you see who is ringing your bell from your PC, tablet, or phone with its automatic doorbell alerts and motion sensor capabilities that come with a small monthly cost. The camera has a quick release rechargeable battery so no need for electrical installation.
The next plan up is called Basic Security + Wireless Connect. This plan offers everything in Basic Security plus Equipment Service Protection for a total cost of $48.99/month, or around $12/week. The main difference is that Basic Security + Wireless Connect doesn’t require a landline connection, making it an attractive option for customers without a landline installed. Security systems with wireless connectivity are also great for customers who don’t want to run the risk of burglars cutting their wires. Plus, alerts tend to reach monitoring stations faster with cell radio than with landlines.
We have had our current security system for about a year now. We have been extremely happy with it, our favorite feature being that we can access our system from ours phones. Our installation was quick and professional. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is lately the system has been failing to arm. When we called to ask the company, they said the chip needed to be replaced for $80. Overall we are happy though!
I really dislike that not one person is willing to back ADT and their processes. However, I understand the difference between Dealers and Corp. I understand everyone wants to save money and get the best, I am sure not one of you can walk in a Benz Dealer and pay the price of a Toyota. meaning we are not force to do business with ADT but yet when you have an issue that was isolated because of you not writing a check, did not pay for extended sevice, or did business with a dealer but want corp. support.
I had someone enter my home when I was at work. ADT called me right away but the cops didn't show up in time. I called back to see what ADT recorded as to how quickly they called (to see if it was their fault or police) and they said they called dispatch after neither myself or my wife answered our phones. So regardless of how quick or slow ADT may be, it still is up to your local authorities to trust their word and come check out your house. A few things got shuffled around with but nothing of real value got stolen. Not fun knowing someone has been snooping around in our home and now I am adding some Pulse cameras to the system for better surveillance.
I have been with ADT going on 11 years. I had the system installed because of a psycho next door neighbor (they have since moved – thank God) and this system has been my life saver not to mention my peace of mind. Unbiased – I am completely happy with them. Their response time is excellent and their customer service has always been prompt with helping me with billing questions, referrals or upgrades to my current system.
Smart guy Dallin! So many people think a gun is enough but we hear so many stories of home invasions happening when the gun wasn't close enough to get or the burglar getting in at night and the residents sleeping through it until it's too late. At least with any alarm system in place you get a good 30 second warning to get things ready in case of a face to face conflict.
The story: Founded in 1874 by Edward Calahan. They started out as a messenger/alarm service but quickly added fire and local authorities. In 1909, they were purchased by AT&T (a name you surely recognize). Shortly thereafter, AT&T sold ADT again. Fast forward some years to 1969 and ADT went public. In 1984, the were renamed and ten years later passed their one-millionth customer. In 1997, Tyco International Ltd. bought them out and since then they have acquired dozens of Ma & Pa security companies as well as big ones such as Brinks and Broadview Security.
i love the fact of having a security system for my family i dont like the fact i have to pay alot for things to be covered under the system every window door and camera is extra.i love having a keypad but the response is very slow i dont like having a gap if the alarm goes off to when they contact you they should be calling as soon as alarm goes off the customer service is great price is ok but they should offer better packages to secure house instead of everything extra
When it comes to home security, ADT monitoring doesn’t sacrifice quality. No matter what package you choose, rest assured that your monitored home security system will be professionally installed by a qualified technician. The best part? If you’re looking for more convenient monitoring features, you have the option to upgrade your package at any time.
The Pulse app also lets you access ADT's Home View, though you'll need to initially configure that using the web portal. Home View lets you create a visual blueprint of your house room by room and map where all your smart devices and security nodes are located. Once configured, Home View color-codes these device icons to show their status and summary activity screens, and if one of them is a camera, you can simply click on it to get a live view of what the cam is seeing.
There are several types of motion sensors out there, the most common being PIR (passive infrared) sensors that detect body heat. These sensors are ideal for home security use as they are cost effective and work well indoors in any lighting environment. Active motion sensors emit microwaves to detect movement and are better suited to harsh environments, including outdoor use, but are prone to false alerts due to wind-blown debris. A dual motion sensor combines both active and passive technology to reduce false alerts and provide an extra measure of reliability.
We live in an area with relatively low rates of home invasions and break ins so who is to say whether or not the ADT sign and stickers really discourage potential criminals. We’ve never had a window break or excessive heat, or even needed to connect with customer service so I can’t really say how they respond, or how accurate the system is, unfortunately.
I really like the upgrade to their Pulse smart phone control app. It makes everything much easier. Got rid of the old crummy control panel, got a sleeker one and put it in the closet and then setup sub accounts for my kids and anyone I want to access the home security system. I don't feel ripped off by their pricing although I'm skeptical that it really costs $50 a month for monitoring. I suppose they need to make their money somewhere and this is where they do.
You’ll also get 2 keychain wireless remote controls so you and a second family member easily operate the security system from anywhere on your property (up to 100 feet away) and in case of an emergency sound the siren immediately and dispatch the police with just the press of a single button. (Full 3-seconds delay on panic function to reduce false alarms).
Our experience with professional installation was mixed. Our tester said the technician provided solid customer service: “He dropped a few unnecessary window sensors from my bill after deciding that the motion detector was sufficient for the entire front half of my home.” However, there were some issues with connecting the command hub to our tester’s network.
We required all systems have Z-Wave Support — the most universal mesh network for communicating appliance to appliance. One of the biggest draws of a DIY system is the opportunity to add in third-party equipment (like Philips Hue lights or a Nest Thermostat) at any point. A Z-Wave compatible system can connect 1,700 home security and automation products from more than 450 companies. Plus, you have flexibility in where you place various devices because Z-Wave can communicate farther distances than competitor networks.
The ADT Pulse control panel is an effort to compete with Vivint, which solely uses proprietary gear—a fact that has historically separated Vivint from the rest of the pack. While we find no problem with the standard equipment from most providers, we do like to see proprietary equipment designed with the whole system in mind, plus they look a bit more sleek. The ADT Pulse is definitely easy on the eyes compared to the standard panels, but is it any better?
Home automation: This comes with the higher cost monitoring package but still very affordable. ADT pulse allows one to do things with a home that was once only available to the rich and the famous. Their free mobile app is available for iOS or Android. It controls everything from an arm and disarming the alarm to controlling the security camera. When testing the ADT Pulse app, we found some cool additional alerts you can set up based upon your area.
One of the most cost-effective security companies in the industry, Protect America makes fitting home security into your monthly budget straightforward. Equipment is included with any monitoring plan, meaning you don’t have to pay an upfront cost — usually a few hundred dollars — to start protecting your home. Plus, because it’s a DIY installation, you won’t have to worry about any additional fees to get your system up and running.
My family has been using ADT while I was growing up (guess you could say I was born and bread white and blue) so I ended up following in their footsteps and got it for my own home whether that was the best deal or not I don't know. Installation process was quick, the guy really wasn't here for too long at all. The "smart" option is a bit confusing and I wish it was explained a bit better, but in time I'll figure it out. I can truly say they are one of the better security systems out there.
Finally, ADT’s Video Package combines everything from the Control level with its Remote Secure Video upgrade, which is ideal for those who prefer greater control over their home system from afar. While the upfront costs are still $125, your monthly monitoring fee jumps to $52.99 for live monitoring of your home, allowing you to tap into the video feed from your home’s cameras no matter where you are.
