Like many other entry sensors in the kits on this list, these little devices are made up of two pieces connected by a magnet. Attach the alarm to your window or door (one piece on the door, one on the frame) and when an intruder opens it, the magnetic connection separates and triggers a 100dB alarm. Reviewers love this product for its easy installation and budget-friendly price tag.
We hope that ADT continues to provide an excellent service and that if we decide to go with a different provider in the future, I hope that we shall not be writing a review to complain about poor communication or any other negative aspect regarding this company. P.S. Many complaints seem to originate from the United States – we live in Canada … I wonder if this a factor.
“Was having a lot of trouble signing in on my Pulse account. Had to use it every time. Called and talked to 3 people about this problem. All they could tell me was to reboot my phone. I did so. On the 4th call I talked to a man and he told me that ‘When you did the last upgrade the this was a existing problem.’ Said that the company has known about this and was trying to fix it. Just forget that the emails I was getting telling me that my phone was LOCKED UP to just forget it and when the next upgrade comes it should be fixed. Why did it take 3 people who didn’t know about this problem and 1 that did.” – Kenneth, August 10, 2017, Consumer Affairs
The company’s long history in the industry and 24/7 customer support are a great incentive to customers looking for a reliable home security system. Additionally, ADT’s six monitoring centers ensure that in the event that a center goes offline for any reason, the call for help is automatically routed to the next available center. Thus, your family will always be protected.

Probably my worst experience with any service provider in US. We put the system before relocating to England for a year. Three faulty alarms resulted in huge fees from police and ADT refused to fix it. Now we are moving for good abroad and they want to charge us $300 to cancel the service. My advice – never work with them. Once we are back this is the last company I will be contacting.
I looked at so many reviews and everyone always has ADT in the top three. My wife and I were getting concerned about the safety of her and our new little one when I have to go out of town every other weekend so we got ADT and I must say the experience was refreshing. Everyone we spoke with knew what they were doing and we had our system up and running lightning fast.
Do-it-yourself security setups are ideal for homeowners on a budget because they can save you a bundle on installation charges and subscription fees. Most DIY systems are easy to install and are sold as kits that you can configure to suit your specific needs. As your needs grow you can order additional sensors and other components at your convenience and pair them to the system in a matter of minutes. Your basic entry-level DIY system may only support one or two wireless protocols and usually offers a limited selection of add-on components, while more expensive DIY systems will support multiple wireless protocols and are compatible with dozens of add-on components.

GetSafe’s no-contract option offers all of the security with none of the commitment at the same monitoring price as its contract plans. Going with its month-to-month option instead of its one- or three-year contracts doesn’t mean skimping on service, either. You still get helpful features like push and email notifications, system updates, and a homeowners insurance discount. (Note: If you choose a no-contract plan, you’ll have to buy your equipment outright. GetSafe’s one- and three-year plans come with a starter kit and a hardware credit for additional equipment.)

ADT-monitored home security systems give you peace of mind by helping to protect your home and family 24/7. Every system is customizable to best fit your home and needs; Your ADT-monitored home security bundle includes a system that works around you. Our solutions include layers of security to both help prevent and protect in the event of an emergency.
Like all home security companies, ADT offers a number of different packages to choose from. In addition to monthly monitoring costs, you also need to consider equipment costs, activation fees, installation costs, and the extra expense of any upgrades you select. Because ADT offers so many options and upgrades, it’s easy to end up with a customized ADT package that is more expensive than its competitors. Just be sure to keep a tally as you work with an ADT security pro to put together the right package for your home. If budget constraints are a factor, let your representative know up-front how much you can afford.
Even though ADT offers home automation, it’s only included with the Premium Protection with Pulse package. This can be frustrating since home automation is a major selling point for most home security providers. The Premium Protection with Pulse package’s starting price is also pretty costly. And, on top of the monthly rate, you’ll have to purchase smart devices like locks, cameras and lights separately.
I have a question... Wouldn't it be cheaper and more affordable to just get my own security cams online and run those instead of adding these to my ADT contract? My husband brought this up because his brother in law has security cameras around the house and they run off the wifi and there is no monthly bill for them. I think it is like $10 a month for the app, that is it.
DO NOT USE ADT to protect your home. There are better services out there who will be transparent from the start. I’m beyond disappointed in ADT – for a company that has been around as long as they have you would think they would want to keep a good name rather than tarnish it. Oh well. When my contract is up in 3 years, I’ll be promptly cancelling and there will likely be better solutions on the market.
I agree with most of the people here. ADT is the undisputed king when the talk is about home security. I have myself experienced their wonderful service on many occasions and still doing after 5 years of subscribing to an ADT plan. I'm a firm believer in a no-nonsense approach and so I prefer those companies too which follow the same policy. Without being too flashy and all, their security system gets the job done of protecting my house pretty well and that too without making much damage to my pocket. What more do I want...
Smart guy Dallin! So many people think a gun is enough but we hear so many stories of home invasions happening when the gun wasn't close enough to get or the burglar getting in at night and the residents sleeping through it until it's too late. At least with any alarm system in place you get a good 30 second warning to get things ready in case of a face to face conflict.

Remote Control: Instead of using the keypad to deactivate your alarm, some systems do come complete with a remote control. There are some disadvantages to these, however, including the inability to see if your alarm is activated (adding to the risk of you tripping the system), and if the remote is stolen, it provides thieves with an easy way of deactivating your alarm.

When I was a kid, we had ADT in the house and my parents raved about the service. When I had to choose my own service once I got older, of coarse I chose something familiar. BIG mistake. I guess they have just gotten so money hungry/rich over the years they just don’t care about customers at all any more. All we are to them are q notch in their sales quota. From outdated equipment, to lack of knowledge of the customer service department. They should really have TRAINING in the services and equipment they provide opposed to “training” on how to read the screen prompts ….heaven forbid those don’t work or they stumble around and want to transfer you etc….you have more a chance of figuring things out on your own, or better yet let a kid do it. They seem to have more knowledge nowdays than any customer service rep REALLY has. Plain and simple…..I will NEVER be using ADT again.

I had ADT for a couple of years. I did not have any issues but then again I did not have any break-ins. I wish that I would have gotten a security system in my apartment as it has been broken into twice now. ADT was easy to use, easy to pay for, which for me is a HUGE bonus. I like being in full control of where my money goes and when and this was the case with ADT. Being able to go online and change things as I see fit. The customer service reps are always efficient and polite although the hold times can get ridiculous.

I have ADT..I had to get it after we were robbed one afternoon while we were at work..I like ADT they are quick to call you if there is a problem and they will work with you if you have any questions..The only downside to ADT is that they are getting expensive..I have not priced around yet but I think that they are charging way to much a month for just the basics..Overall I have been happy with them..

This is another Apple product on display. Apple is one of the biggest tech giants in the world. Their cameras on display is iSmartAlarm iCamera Keep Pro. The video resolution and frame goes for 1080p. Field of views goes up to 140 degrees. Night vision is included and has cloud and local. The pros are sharp image quality, motion tracking, mechanical pan & tilt, free cloud and local storage, time-lapse, and works with IFTTT and iSmartAlarm security system. The cons are pricey and pan and tilt is a little sluggish.
Do not use ADT! The salesman was a fast-talking con artist. My husband and I felt pressured to sign a contract without having time to read it. The salesman lied and told us we could cancel anytime. The contract is for 36 months, and if you try to cancel, you have to pay an incredibly large sum of money! Customer service is rude and antagonistic, and the actual alarm service itself is defective. Please don’t make the mistake that we did!
Several days later a beep began to sound again – similar to the one previous. A call to ADT’s service centre assured us that it was not the panel or anything to do with the system. It was suggested that the beep may be coming from a smoke or carbon monoxide detector. Those devices ‘pip’ not ‘beep’. In any case, we replaced them because they were due. Still, we heard the beep. We even went as far as replacing the batteries in every device in the home that required them. Still, we heard the beep. The beep appeared to come from the panel area but without the low battery warning on the panel we continued our search/detection just in case we were mistaken and ADT was correct.

ADT Pulse is not a fully compatible z-wave system as they exclude many sensors that would make the system attractive for home automation. Reason for the limited functionality seems to be nefarious, i.e. trying to support their outdated business model relying on high price installer that sell overpriced. The system has potential but they need to get everything in order.
I went with ADT because they were a trusted name in the industry with businesses such as banks and other companies that need reliable monitored service. That was the most important thing to me and they have never let me down. I have been with them for over 15 years and the equipment has operated well. If I wanted to have them add additional services over the years, I know that there is an installation cost but it is well below that of a general contractor. And I am sure existing customers can self install if they know how. I have worked with customer service to do alarms tests and inquire about other things and have never had a problem. I have read many of the complaints on this site and many are a result of the home owner not doing their research or expecting free services. These companies have contracts to recoup the equipment costs. They need to pay an employee to do a truck roll for installations…every time. They are not a charity service. And I should note that in over 15 years my monthly fee has only gone up once. Not bad compared to some of the others. So again, I would rather use a company that the banking industry relies on because the most important thing to me is reliability in the event of a crisis. ADT has always been there 24/7.

I have only good things to report about ADT: the installation was smooth and the engineer who installed it was very knowledgeable and gave me good tips about overall security. I love the features on the wireless system and thankfully nothing has happened, but I am definitely feeling safer after the system was installed. I just feel better knowing that the company that is monitoring our security is a market leader.
All ADT plans feature 24/7 security monitoring from multiple redundant call centers nationwide (which is key for that homeowners insurance discount), on-site consultation, installation by professional technicians, and 24/7 customer service. ADT makes a big deal out of that last one, considering it a competitive differentiator. Smaller monitored security vendors, like Frontpoint, may offer 24/7 monitoring, but its customer service is unavailable after a certain point in the evening. For issues like broken monitoring equipment, faulty alarms, and similar problems, having a human available around the clock can be a very good thing.
You shouldn’t have to drain your bank account to safeguard your home. Fortress Security Store has created several wireless and wallet-friendly DIY systems that make protecting your home a cinch. Our favorite is the Fortress S02 that uses a landline or VOIP connection (think Google Voice combined with an OBi box, Vonage or a voice service from a cable TV company) to dial up to six different phone numbers when the alarm is triggered. Since the company doesn’t offer 24/7 professional monitoring, there are no monthly fees or contracts.
Want to save on your next order from ADT Security? Here are a few hot tips: first, check Groupon Coupons for the latest deals! Then, while you're shopping with ADT Security, sign up for emails if you can. This is an easy way to get alerts about promotions without having to hunt them down. And lastly, don’t forget to check the sale and clearance sections. Sort items by price from low to high to find the best bargains!

I just got rid of m ADT system. It was installed onOctober 1st and in the four months I had it, I had at least 14 service calls to fix broken or non-functioning equipment and more calls from them telling me that a window was open when it was not. The window in question has not been opened over 25 years. And every time they would call about my “open window”, it would make the alarm impossible to set because it required over-riding that window. I got a call from an ADT representative telling me they were receiving an alarm from my system. I was standing right next to the alarm when she called and I said “If the alarm was going off, shouldn’t I be hearing it.” She said “Absolutely”.... Read More
This particular Shield system comes with the SimpliSafe base station (which plugs into the wall), six entry sensors, two motion sensors, a keypad, and a key fob so you can easily arm the system when you leave. Like many other systems on this list, SimpliSafe doesn’t require any tools to install. Just stick the sensors to your windows and doors, pair them with the mobile app, and you’re ready to go. SimpliSafe sells additional sensors so you can expand your system as needed. It is compatible with Amazon Alexa.

There are several steps you can take to make sure your home security system is safe from malicious cyber intruders. For starters, replace the system's default password with a unique one that contains a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. If possible, change your password from time to time. Additionally, make sure your home network is secure. Check the security settings on your wireless router, and consider models that add an extra layer of software protection, like the Bitdefender Box 2.
I have had ADT service for 5 years. This is after my cabin had a break in. The only problem I have had is the door sensor fell off and I was able to repair this myself. I can arm and disarm the equipment remotely by cellphone. When the alarm went off one time they were very responsive. Customer service advised me how to replace the battery in the key fob. My only complaint is I was given a discount for paying for multiple years in advance and this was not offered in future years. I requested additional yard signs and these were provided at no additional charge. I am satisfied with their service.
Frontpoint’s DIY installation process was surprisingly user-friendly. Because it’s a wireless security system, there’s no drilling required to run a phone line, making the process less invasive. A personalized mobile website walks you through how to get the control panel connected and online, how and where to place your door sensors, and what to do if you get stuck.
So since the guy was already there i was friendly and greeted him but explained i had canceled and was no longer looking for security at the moment due to some issues. He stated he couldn't leave until his boss gave him permission. His boss(ADAM)  was very rude and told him to just leave the security system on my counter and to leave and that i wasn't receiving a refund  (YET I DIDN'T EVEN RECEIVE INSTALLATION NOR DID HE EVEN TAKE OUT THE SYSTEM OUT OF HIS CAR)  When i told him(Adam) My husband was on deployment and wasn't moving in until January ADAM kept pushing it on me after telling him NO several times. He states he already had a cancellation and couldn't receive another cancellation for the day. THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. They instillation person was very nice but stayed at my house (inside) for 2 hours. I Had to speak to 4 different people just to cancel and have the tech person to leave.  It was the worst experience of customer service i have EVER experienced. ADT does not care about you only their money. WILL NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!! SCAM

I was renting a house in the countryside in North Carolina. The landlord contacted ADT to install a new alarm system in the house. The previous system was no longer covered by anyone. The install was quick and complete. The only problem being the hall motion detector which they said shouldn’t pick up the movement of a 30# elderly dog, but routinely did. They disabled that sensor and didn’t have any more issues. Whenever there was an issue, they were quick to respond via phone and on one occasion had the police meet me at the house when a true alarm came in.

Chances are if you’re thinking of a friend or neighbor’s home security system, they probably have an ADT sign out front. ADT has been considered the industry standard for home security, and although some of their stuff might not be as flashy, the equipment is solid and the monitoring aspect receives good reviews with customers (although sales and installation customer service could use some love). Plus, you can always expand your system with home automation options.

The camera's auto-record function is based on motion sensors tuned to ignore small animals. The cam will record a 30-second video clip, then pause for four minutes before it records again. Auto-recorded clips are stored in ADT's Pulse cloud and can be accessed via the Pulse app. The camera operates at 720p resolution and you can record either a manual video or a still snapshot using the Pulse mobile app. All video clips, your own or the ones the camera takes automatically, are stored in ADT's cloud for 30 days. If you want to download anything to save long-term, it's doable, but only using the ADT web portal, not the mobile app. All this functionality comes with your Pulse service contract, none of it costs extra. ADT offers 24/7 professional monitoring of your home security system 365 days a year. This includes a control panel with Z-Wave compatibility, giving you the flexibility to add whatever smart home devices you’ve already got in play, from lights and locks to appliances.
